    1. [KISSINGCOUSINS-L] The terminology of: anförlust
    2. Someone on another list asked the question: If someone has a moment, could you advise me as to the meaning of "anförlust" And this reply came back: I don't know the English word for "anförlust", it would be something like "lost ancestors". It means, however, that if two of your ancestors were already related to each other, some of their ancestors will appear in more than one place on your pedigree chart. An example: If your parents were cousins because their fathers were brothers, you will have 2 parents, 4 greatparents, but only 6 greatgrandparents (instead of 8) (and in the next generation you will have 12 persons instead of 16). Your father's father's parents and your mother's father's parents would be the same persons, thereby you have "lost" two ancestors (and so on, back to Adam :-) ) Especially in rural communities "everybody was related to everybody" in some way, and you are very likely to meet examples of "anförlust", even if they are not as obvious as the example given above. Just thought you KISSINGCOUSINS-L people might get a kick out of this word. Have a nice day, and gosh, you are all so "quiet"....
