If I am not mistaken I think the idea was one an ice breaker. Second the idea was that if someone was not aware of a list for an area they were researching they would now know where to find it. Most of my reserach is on ancestors that lived in Scotland, I did not know until six months into searching that their were mailing lists in the areas I was researching. Not all the postings deal with people, many deal with the area it self and the history of a certain time. As someone that has a degree in History (European, mainly German) I find it fascinating to now be able to learn about my ancestors and what was going on in their lives. Remember if your start reading an email and you don't like its contents you can always hit the delete key. Janet Tennent Kensington, Maryland
