If I am not mistaken I think the idea was one an ice breaker. Second the idea was that if someone was not aware of a list for an area they were researching they would now know where to find it. Most of my reserach is on ancestors that lived in Scotland, I did not know until six months into searching that their were mailing lists in the areas I was researching. Not all the postings deal with people, many deal with the area it self and the history of a certain time. As someone that has a degree in History (European, mainly German) I find it fascinating to now be able to learn about my ancestors and what was going on in their lives. Remember if your start reading an email and you don't like its contents you can always hit the delete key. Janet Tennent Kensington, Maryland
Hi Everyone, Since we've been having this hot topic of discussion (Religious views as they aren't involved in the Genealogical process) and I've asked everyone to keep their views of religion off this list, I've decided to do one thing to help those who want to be involved in the discussion. WITHOUT putting your viewpoints on THIS list, Please put your email address in the list under the subject heading "Religion Discussion" and write down (or add to your address books) the names of those who add their names to the discussion list and then all of you can send mail amongst yourselves. Please remember to keep the discussion off the KISSINGCOUSINS-L mailing list and if you care to discuss amongst yourselves, write down everyone's email address that responds and use the reply to all function so everyone that responded can see what you are saying on that specific topic. For those of you who want nothing to do with the Religion Discussion, if you see a Religion Discussion subject heading, just delete it. Now, I think I've been more than fair on this point, I hope I've given you a way to connect, without having the discussion here. Thank You, Betsy Hale Listowner - KISSINGCOUSINS-L
Quite a few of you have been listing a variety of mailing lists that you subscribe to ...... ok ... I give up ..... now what??? Post a request on each of the lists to see if someone might have some info??? Dumb question I know ...... but I am getting these lists sent and I read them ..... and .... well ..... ???? I realized that I forgot some of my family intertwinings. William DAVIS Jr. of Marion District SC married his first cousin Mary DAVIS. Their son William Henry married Melissa Cliff FINCH in Baldwin/Clarke County AL; their son Robert Dunham married her sister, Emily Hite. Two sons of William Henry and Melissa, James Madison DAVIS and Joshua Alonzo DAVIS, married Clarke Co. sisters Mary and Martha HOSEA. I believe I mentioned that my great-grandfather, William Hite DAVIS (another son of William Henry and Melissa), married Sarah GRAYSON of Marengo Co. AL; he later married her sister, Harriet Elizabeth GRAYSON Evans. His sister Caroline Emily Deborah DAVIS married Alexander Harvey GRAYSON, the girls' brother. The only child of William Henry and Malissa who *didn't* marry into a "kissing cousin" relationship (two sons died unmarried) was Matilda Louisa, who married a JOHNSON. EXCEPT...Matilda's son, William, married Harriet Elizabeth's daughter by her first marriage, Susan Emma EVANS. I think I'm done now. :-) Nancy Davis Harwood Houston, TX
Oh gee! Where am I NOT looking right now? Ok, here goes... Most of my search right now is centered around the Fannin and Gilmer County, Georgia/Polk County, Tennessee area. But I am also searching the Jackson North Carolina area, several area's in South Carolina and Alabama. My father's mother lived in Van Buren, Arkansas for awhile so I am also looking there. her first son was born in Douglas County, Missouri or Montana, not sure which, so I am also trying to search there. Plus, some family lived in the Hazard, Ky. area so when I get a chance I will look there too. My great great great grandmother came from Ireland so if I ever get a chance I will look there. On the Chastain side the family has been traced back berofe 1625 to France-don't guess I can get much further than that. I guess that is is so far. But with my family, who knows! We are spread from the east coast to the west coast! (if you are out there, Hi Marg!). Take care all! I actually have 2 sets of kissing cousins...one on my mom's side of the family and one on my dad's. On my Mom's side there are the KELLERS and KAISERS. My great-grandfather was Emmette KELLER. He married Magdalena KAISER. This was sometime around 1910. Apparently, Magdalena's parents were Mitchell KAISER and Magdelina KELLER. I still need to confirm this since this is from old information, but interesting, nonetheless. Are my great-grandparents cousins? It could be. On my Dad's side there are the DEMOSSES and the REEVES. My ggg-grandfather is Isaac DEMOSS. He married Louisa REEVE. Isaac had a brother William who married Louisa's sister Mary. So far that's all I've been able to turn up. I'm sure there will be more as I get the rest of my lines researched further. Just thought I'd add my two cents worth..... Most of my family that I'm working on is located in Southern Indiana. All are Knox County with the following additions: DEMOSS--also Kentucky around 1800; Daviess Co, IN REEVE--also Pennsylvania around 1800; Ohio; Jackson and Daviess Co, IN KELLER KAISER CARDINAL THOMPSON FIELDEN--possibly Greene or Sullivan Co, IN; Connersville, IN COX CAPPOCK--possibly Greene or Sulivan Co, IN MATTOX--possibly Greene or Sullivan Co, IN I use the surname lists, SSDI, census records, etc to find my information. Luckily, 20 years ago in school my cousins and I had projects that got me interested in searching for my roots and our moms got us a good solid start. It's very difficult to research a family so concentrated in an area that is 1200 miles away. It's a good thing I still have lots of family there so I can spend a little time digging through the historical library while I'm visiting them. That's the plan for August. Hi folks, It's Betsy. From time to time, I'm going to be adding a list of the new mailing lists so that if you see an area of interest, you can subscribe to it. The Trail of Blood goes through the history of the different denominations. The Baptists are mentioned in there. This is NOT a religious tract for those of you who are afraid of proselytizing. Sorry about the misunderstanding. I would NOT deliberately try that on this site. I was only trying to answer the question of another person. Hope this helps. Sincerely, Angela Whaley "as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15

For the next ice breaker here again are the names I am searching. They are as follows: CAMERON, MAITLAND, HIGGINS, GOURLAY, BREMBER, GRIEVE, STEWART, and FORD. They area I am searching is Scotland and my family seems to have moved quite a bit before coming to the US. The lists I subscribe to are as follows:LANARK, SCT-FIFE, MIDLOTHIAN, DUMFRIES-GALLOWAY, SCT-RENFREW, AYRSHIRE, DUNBARTONSHIRE, CAMERON, GOURLEY (there is no GOURLAY lists), MAITLAND, GRIEVE. I also use my local FHC and the 1881 census for Great Britian on CD ROM. I hope my ancestors will forgive me if I left anyone off the list. Here is hoping to one day of finding a cousin on this list. Hi, Forgot to mention I was also on the Gen-Newbie list and a couple of family name forums. What I don't belong to, my daughter does. She's on about 20 other lists, and we share. She is more adept at finding sites than I am, so she sends me stuff that I can browse through at my leisure. Jerrian
Hi, It's me again. I forgot, before computers, it was travel, libraries, LDS libraries, Writing letters snail mail, cemetery hopping, sending for certificates, notes, notes, notes, interviewing family members, and good old fashioned hard research. :0)

its true that disagreements can begin great growth, it also is true that religeous disagreements have caused great wars. no one disagrees that each person, in this country,at least, has a right to their own religeous convictions but to put religous texts on a genealogy forum defeats thepurppose of the person s who are only looking for lost family and takes away the joy of finding a lost one if one has to look at religeous tracts and bible verses.if you and our house serve the lord, thats great, but why do i need to know that o this forum?is this what you counsel your clients professionally? as for me, to imitate you, upon this rock i build my church, not protestant, catholic, etc. just my church. you are welcome to your beliefs,as am i,but this i not the place to defend them, at least, i don't think so. other members may think otherwise,if so,then we better start a forum devoted to those who are more interested in religeon than ancestors as such.
I made a mistake. In a previous newsletter, I wrote the "Trail of Tears" when I meant the "Trail of Blood" as an excellent pamphlet containing a chart of the breakoffs of the Protestant churches. Sorry about that. I gave my only copy to a friend who was wanting to join a church but was confused by the plethora. It answered his questions and he was able to make an intelligent decision on his own. I am enjoying this discussion of the Baptist/Protestant discussion. Please don't be discouraged by those who don't care for religion or disagreement of any sort. Disagreement can cause great growth. Proverbs 27:6 says "Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful." Proverbs 27:17 says "Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens the countanence of his friend." My thanks to those who were brave enough to post there opinions/research! Angela Whaley, M.S. Counseling Professional Counselor Angela Whaley "as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." HI Everyone, it's time for another Icebreaker... what are the locations you are searching in for your ancestors and what mailing lists, tools, URL's are you using to do that research? I'm searching in Maryland: I'm on the MDCAROLI-L for Caroline County, MD and the MDGEN-L which is a list for all of Maryland. I would advise anyone to use USGENWEB to find their perspective areas and join those lists if you haven't already, also check out the USGENWEB sites for your areas, they have some very valuable information on them. The address is: http://www.usgenweb.org/ I'm also searching in England and am on YORKSGEN-L for Yorkshire, and the LANCS-L for Lancashire. I also have used the Pudsey message board (which is a message board for people in the area of Pudsey - a suburb of Leeds), and the YorksWeb sites as well. I also use multimap.com's Find: where I can find any city/town in the UK at: http://uk5.multimap.com/map/places.cgi I'm also on several Surname lists through RootsWeb and collaboration lists through the LDS site. You should know how to find those RootsWeb sites (if not, email me) and to get to the collaboration sites at LDS go to: www.familysearch.org/ and click on the "Collaborate With Others" button which will take you to all the collaboration mailing lists created so far. Remember to also check out Query boards for all your areas at: GenConnect - http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/index.html (don't forget to search states as well as names) and also at Genforum - http://www.genforum.com (again, search states/counties as well as names). Good Luck, and what have you done to try to pinpoint your relatives in the areas where they were known to live? Betsy Hale Listowner - KISSINGCOUSINS-L
