    1. [KISSINGCOUSINS-L] Re: Cousins found on Kissing Cousins!
    2. Hi K. Cousins! Just wanted to let you know that through the wonders of the Kissing Cousins List, I have found a cousin that is not only distant in relation, but distant across the continent! I come down from one of Squire & Sarah Morgan Boone's daughters & she comes down from one of their sons (yes they had more than just Daniel!). This find has opened up a wonderful find of sharing information via email & snail mail! Good Luck to all other cousins on the list, May you, too, find unknown kin here on Kissing Cousins! Hugs, Susan Mitchell Cox IBSSG, KS, & lover of cemeteries with character!

    3. My dad's parents (James and Elizabeth Cornett Parham (spelling later changed to Parm for some reason) named my father William Roy. After Grandma Lizzie died, Pop remarried and he and his 2nd wife had a son they named....William Roy! My Uncle Roy, (Cooch) had a son that he named William Roy! Imagine the confusion! When a bill collector once called and asked if this was the Roy Parm residence mom told them 'yes.' When they said they were with such and such a collection agency and was collecting on such and such a bill mom proceeded to tell them they had the wrong Roy Parm and that they wanted his brother, Roy! *LOL* Needless to say, they didn't believe her. I ran into someone a few years ago when I wrote out a check that asked if I was related to Roy Parm. I asked them which one. They told me, 'The one that died." My response was, "Well, if you mean the only one that I know is dead, he is my father. Of course, if one of the others has died, then he is either my uncle or my cousin." The guy never would tell me why he wanted to know so I don't know if he was that cousin or another person my uncle owed money too. We never kept in touch with Cooch and his family so I have no idea what is going on with them, but I imagine at the time that he and Jr. were still alive. However, I didn't realize that they knew dad had died. Just another twisted branch in my family tree! *L* I'm getting used to them. Debi

Paula, I am a BOOKER by birth. I have tried to research my father's family but have not been able to get past him and his parents. This is what I know about them. My father was a Charles Edward BOOKER born in either Richmond or Newport News, Virgina in either 1919 or 1922. His father was John Alexander BOOKER Jr. born 12 Jan 1894, I am not sure where possibly NC, SC, Va. or some other place in the south. My father's mother was Ida M. KELLEY born 2 Aug 1896, I always thought she was from NC, SC or Va., but a cousin told me her brother told her she was from Dublin, Ireland. Her father was Robert KELLEY, I was told he was a tobacco farmer in SC and later Va. John Alexander BOOKER had at least one brother Robert BOOKER and at least one sister Margaret BOOKER. John and Ida had one other child a John Alexander BOOKER III. He had 10 children. John and Ida married on 25? Apr 1917 not sure where. Any of these folk in your line. 3. I only have one surname (that I know of so far) that fits into "Kissing Cousins"...SKIDGEL/SKIDGELL. I'm not sure where they have come from, but I have them traced back to the late 1700's in Westchester County, New York; then going to New Brunswick, Canada; and then into Aroostook County, Maine. The lists I subscribe to are NEWBRUNSWICK, SURNAMES, SURNAMES-CANADA, COCHRAN, GENSWAP, NJESSEX, NJHUDSON. I also use my local FHC. Sheila Skidgel Zirpoli swedeepie@home.com

Candy, It was not uncommon in Scotland when I child died at an early age or birth to name another child the same name. I am sure the same was true for the US at this time. Why wait to go to Sweden and Norway to start checking your husbands family? Rootsweb has sites that may pertain to those areas. The more names you have to check the more intersting it becomes. If you start searching for your husband's family you will only get 3 hours sleep a night instead of 6. Every time I add a name to my list its 1 less hour of sleep I get a night. If I add 4 more names I won't sleep at all. :( Good luck in your search. Janet Tennent Kensington, Maryland

Ken, I understand that Maitland city was named after the Maitlands from Scotland. Also some of them took the name Lauder or Lauderdale as they were the Maitlands of Lauder. Ft Lauderdale is also named for them. There also was a James Maitland the Earl of Lauderdale and currently a Viscount Maitland that I belive is serving in the House of Parliment. According to what I have been told all Maitland's are related. I just can't make the connection yet. To find my ancestors I check every possibly lead and resource I can find. Good luck in your own search. Janet Tennent Kensington, Maryland

    1. [KISSINGCOUSINS-L] ICEBREAKER
    2. Welcome to all the new subscribers (there are several of you who joined recently)! I'm asking everyone to write their Surnames and locations of such as we have already had one Cousin match up on this list in the first few days of it's existence. Let's see who you might be related to; and to those who've been here for a while, can you please list you surnames as well so everyone can get familiar with the names you are working on? Also, we've recently all written down what mailing lists and tools we use/like on the internet, so if you want to add that information to the post as well, it would really be appreciated. A special welcome to nhustad@unicomp.net (Kay Hustad) she's MY Cousin. Thanks to all, Betsy Hale Proud RootsWeb Contributor Listowner of KISSINGCOUSINS-L@rootsweb.com http://www.geocities.com/researchtriangle/forum/2288/index.html
