Hi all, Yesterday I posted info regarding the addresses of Family Heritage Centers in Ireland. Later in the day I rec'd an inquiry as to just what the "Irish Family History Foundation" was.... and I realized I really didn't know, I had assumed they were an offshoot of our FHC's.... In today's SHAMROCK list, discussion has continued regarding the use of various search resources and whether you get your money's worth by doing so. FYI, here is a post that seems to sum up the discussion: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In response to the high cost of researching in Ireland using the Heritage Centres - See the message that I sent regarding contacting the Parish for Records: Tim Maher asked about writing to a parish for records. I returned from Ireland after a two week visit in May. I went to the parish of my grandmother in Lismore, Co. Waterford, that parish like many others are now sending their records to the County Heritage Centers. Therefore, I suggest that you contact a Center and have them provide you with the research. Coincidentally, I have used the Offaly Center, and just received a reply from them yesterday!! It takes 6 weeks for the assessment report ($40US). But, they found my gr-grandfather's siblings and parents' marriage certificates in two locations (so a single parish would not be able to do this) and will provide the information in a report for an additional $50US. So, a total of $90US for a report on my gr-grandfather's ancestry. Incidentally, I have paid $150US for a private researcher to try to find information on my gr-grandfather before my May trip to Ireland - but they were unable based on the facts that I had supplied to them. So, the $90 vs $150 seems like a true bargain. I will see what the Offaly Ctr report looks like and compare it to the $200 report that I received from the private researcher on my gr-grandmother from Co. Leitrim. I will advise you and the list on the thoroughness and presentation of the Co. Offaly vs Private Research reports. Jack Lamb
