I am researching on the family of Matthew and Mary (ELLIOTT) KIRWAN / CARAWAN in Dorchester Co., Maryland in the late 1600's & early 1700's. Also the family of the parents of Mary (ELLIOTT) KIRWAN, John & Jean (unk) ELLIOTT of the same place and time period. Mary (ELLIOTT) KIRWAN was the wife of Matthew KIRWAN (Sr.) (d. 1716/17). In his will, Matthew began with, "I, Matthew CARRAWON," but signed it "Matthew KIRWAN". He mentioned his wife and children John, Matthew, Jane and Mary. Their son John CARAWAN (d.c. 1745) wife Mary, children Matthew, Elizabeth, Peter and John; Their son Matthew KIRWAN (Jr.) (d. 1772), wife Judith, sons Thomas and John KERWIN; Son-in-law John COWARD and children Slighter and Rachall COWARD. In John ELLIOTT's (d. 1703) will, he mentions the following: sons John and Edward, daus. Mary, Elizabeth, and Rose; and wife Jean. In Jean ELLIOTT's (d.c. 1724) will, she mentions the following: Dau.* Mary KIRWAN (b.c. 1682), gch. Mary, John & Mathew KIRWAN; Son John ELLIOTT, gch. John & Rebecca ELLIOTT; Gch. John, Bennony and Thomas PHILLIPS [ch/o Benony & Rose (ELLIOTT) PHILLIPS]; Son Edward ELLIOTT (b.c. 1696), exec., residue of estate on condition that he deliver personally to gson Edward COCK [COX ?] (s/o Elizabeth (ELLIOTT) COX (?)) at age of 21 and give him 2 yrs. schooling; also to build dau.
