Hello Kirwin Cousins! Just a wee bit of interesting information regarding my ggrandmother, Elizabeth KIRWAN HUGHES DARLINGTON (she was married once before she married my ggrandfather). The information I have found so far indicated both Elizabeth and Francis (my ggrandfather) were born in 1872, and were married in 1894, making them both 22 at the time. I thought this unusual, since I knew Elizabeth was already widowed with at least two children, but whatever... I could not locate a record of her birth either in the years before or after 1872. Even her death certificate indicated that to be the year of her birth. Then, while checking the soundex for the 1920 NYC census (the family emigrated from Dublin), I found her age stated as being 11 years OLDER than my ggrandfather. This made much more sense to me, given the fact that she had three children by her first husband. I went to her grave during my recent visit to NYC, but no date of birth was on the stone, just the date of death. Anyway, I found it to be a bit amusing that she lied about her age on her marriage certificate, my ggrandfather lied for her on her death certificate, but they told the census taker the truth!!!
