    1. [KIRWIN] 1901 Census for Kingstown (Dun Laoghaire)
    2. Scott Kerwin
    3. Here are the Kirwin's that I found in the 1901 census for Kingstown (now Dun Laoghaire). I didn't check the 1911 census as it is not on microfilm, and individual folders need to be retrieved from the desk at the National Archives. Since I didn't have a week or two to spend in the Archives, I only have the 1901 results. By the way (in response to some questions that I had about my last submission on parish records), I recommend getting a hold of John Grenham's new edition of Tracing Your Irish Ancestors. The index has a comprehensive list of records around Ireland. As he notes, not all the church records have made their way into the National Library in Dublin and remain in local hands. For instance, I thought that the John Kirwan-Catherine Murphy marriage of 1878 was my direct ancestors, but could not find them in Kingstown records at the National Library in Dublin. It seems that they were married at St. Brigid's church in Cabinteely (an area of Dun Laoghaire) who have kept their own records. I had to phone the church and ask them to hunt down the record, which they kindly did. As it turned out, this John Kirwan was not the one I was looking for ... By the way, if anybody is at the General Registry Office in Dublin soon, can you check if a Margaret Gertude Kirwin/Kirwan was born in 1878 or so? She was probably born in Rathdown [i.e. southern Dublin county] or in Co. Wicklow (I'm not sure what the name of the districts are) - but most likely in Wicklow. Her father's name was John. Thanks. The 1901 census: Roll 96 (A-F, G-N) Catherine Kirwan - 11 Crofton Avenue in Monkstown - servant - 21 years old - Roman Catholic, literate - born in Co. 3. Apparently, my darling husband has not been practicing safe computing. It looks like we may have been infected by a worm called "Happy 99". It would be advisable to check and make sure that you have not been infected as well. Please go to http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/happy99.worm.html for all of the details on what this critter is, how to know if you're infected, and how to delete it. Something not included in the Symantec notes is the further detail that this thing creates a log of who it has sent itself to. The log file is windows\system\liste.ska, which should be opened with NotePad and then deleted. The good news is that this is not a very sophisticated worm, and does no real damage -- when executed it brings up a fireworks display and a Happy 1999 message. Think of it as cyber graffiti. You will be happy to know that we have decided to upgrade our virus software IMMEDIATELY. In the meantime, please accept my husband's sincere apologies. Chris's ever-tolerant wife, Kathy

    2. Scott Kerwin
    3. I traveled to the UK and Ireland this past year searching for my own Kerwin's / Kirwin's / Kirwan's and found a lot of material. Unfortunately for me, I still haven't made the link to my great-great grandfather, and am still on the lookout. However, I did copy a lot of material down from the archives in Dublin, which may be of help to some of you. My material comes from the parish records for Kingstown (Dun Laoghaire) located in the National Library of Ireland in Dublin. I copied down every entry relating to Kirwins that I saw, so who knows, one of the following could be a relative of yours. Before you read this, I want to ask again if anybody knows of my great-grandfather John Joseph Kirwin. He could be one of the 3 John Kirwans born in the 1880's listed below, but I cannot be sure. He had an older sister named Margaret Gertrude Kirwin who was married in Manchester, England in 1902. If anybody knows of this family, please let me know. 3. Hi Paul, Interesting that you should mention Corwins today! Yesterday, I was given a genealogy of the Gulick family, which appears to be connected to my Mills line. In it is one "little pocket" of Corwins... These people were either in New York or New Jersey... hope it helps someone! The data is entitled Descendents of Cant. Henry Gulick, born 1734, son of Samuel Gulick: [1]Henry [2].....Samuel [3]..........Nathan Henry Williamson (this is how it is typed...can't explain name) [2].....Nicholas 1758-1846, m. Elizabeth ?ano (first letter missing) [3]..........Henry b. 1784 [3]..........William Gano [3]..........John [3]..........Charles m. Sarah Halsey [3]..........Mary m. ? You previously posted on GenForum-Kirwan the following: I am seeking any information on any of the following persons: Frances Kirwan of 12, Georges St. East,Dublin, son of Frances Kirwan and Mary Mullen and Mary C. Deane of 14, Vesey Place Dublin, daughter of James Deane and Catherine Brown who were married in the Roman Catholic church of St. Michael, Dun Laoghaire ,Dublin on 24th November,1879. In looking for "my" Kirwans from the area of Foxrock, near Dun Laoghaire, I recently came across an Irish Civil Registration marriage record that seems to be part of "your" Kirwans: On 26 AUG 1878 James Kirwan and Frances McNally were married in the Roman Catholic Chapel of St. Andrew's, N. Dublin, by Rev. Edward Matthews, in the presence of John Kavanaugh of No. 14 Hanningan (?) Street, and Maria Kirwan. It was the first marriage for each, and each was of "full age". James was residing at 11 Liffy St. His father is Francis Kirwan. Frances was lving at 12 Georges St, presumably with her father, Michael McNally. I suspect that James Kirwan is the brother of your Francis Kirwan who married Mary Deane. Hope this helps, let me know. Chris Kirwan

    3. Hi all, I have accepted (a bit reluctantly - as it is more work...) the Admin position for the Kirwin/Kirwan GenConnect Boards. Because we are still a small online research group, for the time being I am trying to point all research to one same place (i.e., the KIRWIN-L or the KIRWIN Boards) so we can all benefit in an efficient way. I KNOW my Patrick's name is spelled differently on different records.... Should the time come when we begin to see we are sorting our family groups so successfully that it becomes obvious that separate research on the spellings makes sense (don't we all wish?), I will be happy to "hand over the mantle" to one of you to become the Admin for the other derivitives and the mailing list. Just let me know you are willing to take it on and we will collaborate! Meanwhile let's have fun with these new toys!!! If you haven't seen GenConnect, you are in for a treat! Go to http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/indx/FamAssoc.html click on "K" scroll to Kirwin and click again. You will reach a site where you can post queries and links to othere boards where you can post actual data. I put up a couple of examples... dig through your own data, see what you have and put it up! What is soooo cool about GenConnect is they have an Indexing Spider that goes out every Sunday evening while we sleep (at least in the USA ;]) to grab and alphabetize any surnames that get mentioned... THEN! When you or I go looking for our names, they pop right up leading folks to our posts! This is really turning us into a Global Family Community and ushering us into the New Millenium....Remember, Rootsweb is about the only place dedicated to making genealogy information available and accessible to all! For example, if you post anything on GenForum, now that it has been acquired by the Family Tree Maker arm of The Learning Company (aka Mattell), their fine print says they own the rights to your data.... and they can sell it for their own profit! Only on Rootsweb do we continue to own our own research... Let's get it and keep it where "plain folks" can find it! We all know our research time is not free... I say there is no goo dreason why we should give the "big guns" our efforts to make their money from! So! Go post your info, be sure to put all surnames in the surname box and let's just watch those new cousins pop out of the woodwork... Jana

    1. [KIRWIN-L] Re: Roll Call
    2. Beverly or Bennie Williams
    3. Sorry, have just been saving messages and not read any until now. My Kerwins(Kirwin) are the same as mingzmom's, please refer to her message, if you have saved it. I recently have been in contact with a cousin of my Dad's and oddly enough she told me an ex-sister-in-law would be able to fill me in on family. Not sure she meant way back though! I contacted that person who did give me her children's addresses who I haven't seen since childhood (over 45 years now) and I will be getting in touch with them soon. This ex of the family is one I remember as being very nice, we have corresponded and recently her 2nd husband was here in Wichita for some tests and she called, that was neat! We will be in touch again soon. So asking around and asking pointed questions can give us some good info. Beverly Researching: KERWIN, MELLINGTON, BOND, ALLEN, HAAS & KREBHIEL.

    1. [KIRWIN-L] Margaret Getrude Kirwin - Dun Laoghaire (?) - 1878
    2. Scott Kerwin
    3. I am trying to find information on Margaret Gertude Kirwin, who married James William Gregory in Eccles, England in 1902. She was born in 1878, either in Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin, or in nearby Co. Wicklow. She is the sister of my great-grandfather John Joseph Kirwin - born in Dun Laoghaire in the 1880's - who died in Saskatchewan in 1927. If you have any information on either of these Kirwin's please contact scottkerwin@hotmail.com ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
