Hello KIRKPATRICK listmembers, <><><><><><><><><><><><><> (Please note: I am using the KIRKPATRICK spelling here, but ask that you please read to mean all of the variant spellings . Other boards may develop for a specific spelling, but we will continue to accept ALL spellings.) <><><><><><><><><><><><><> I'm pleased to be able to announce a new resource for KIRKPATRICK researchers...KIRKPATRICK GenConnect boards for Queries, Biographies, and Obituaries. Some of you who frequent USGenWeb or WorldGenWeb sites may already be familiar with GenConnect. Many of the GenWeb sites have been linked to GenConnect for some time. Recently GenConnect boards became available for individual surnames and I applied to create a KIRKPATRICK board. This is another service being hosted by our friends at RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative. For those who are not familiar with GenConnect, it is a web-based automated query and record management system. Visitors see their queries posted immediately and the posts are also threaded, meaning responses to a previously posted query will appear immediately under that query. Each GenConnect board is indexed by the GenConnect Global Search Engine (http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi?search) and also by Surname Helper (http://cgi.rootsweb.com/surhelp/srchall.html). Another feature of GenConnect is automatic email notification. For any given board you have the option to receive automatic email notification each time a new post appears on that board. Only three posting boards are now available for the KIRKPATRICK surname. Please let me know if you wish to see the others and I will try to do them if possible. We can also have: Wills Pensions Deeds Bible Records The boards are virtually empty right now and it's up to us to fill them up. The following KIRKPATRICK GenConnect boards have been activated (or soon will be): <><>QUERIES<><> http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Kirkpatrick Most queries that are appropriate for the KIRKPATRICK-L mailing list can also be posted to this board. It's not a matter of having to choose whether to post your query to one resource or the other. You can post the same query to both the KIRKPATRICK-L mailing list and the KIRKPATRICK GenConnect Queries Board. There may be times when you will want to post only to the list or only to the Queries board. Questions that seem likely to stir up quite a bit of discussion or debate would probably be better suited to the mailing list where the discussion can take place in something approaching real time. Similarly, very simple questions that are likely to be answered quickly are probably better handled by the mailing list because there's not much point in having your query remain visible on the Queries board for several months after you've already gotten the answer. Conversely, your really tough questions might be better suited to the Queries board. Because your query will remain visible for months, the Queries board is a particularly good place to post your "dead end", "brick wall" and "most wanted" type queries...especially the ones that you've posted to the list once or twice already without any useful replies. Please restrict your KIRKPATRICK queries to this Queries board only. *****Queries posted to any non-query board may be deleted without notice.***** <><>BIOGRAPHIES<><> http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/KirkpatrickBios Brief KIRKPATRICK biographies will be accepted here. Be very careful not to violate copyrights when posting bios. If in doubt, check first with me mailto: [email protected] before posting. Any posts found to be in violation of copyright will be removed. These do not have to be printed biographies though! I would like to encourage each of you to take your own research and try to word a biography of your KIRKPATRICK ancestor(s). You can have more than one and would be able to use more detail in this manner. Be sure to give places, dates, names in full, maiden names (include if possible, daughter of .......) These don't have to be fancy, we just need to get the information out there to be found by others. You don't know what bit of information will strike a chord with someone else and result in that much needed connection. <><>OBITUARIES<><> http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/KirkpatrickObits Transcriptions of KIRKPATRICK obits, or obits that mention KIRKPATRICK survivors may be posted here. If possible, include the name of the newspaper, city, date of publication. I hope that this new resource will aid us all in our pursuit of KIRKPATRICK genealogy. Be sure and make your subject line count! Name, date, place, are all helpful. Or a maiden name? Each time you post, you are given the option of previewing your message. Take a couple of moments to review before hitting the button! These messages will be archived on rootsweb and will become increasingly valuable. I understand they will be indexed weekly for the search engines. If you have a change in your email address after posting, I will be able to make a correction. Please help me out by specifying which board(s) you need changed. Also tell me the surname. I have boards set up to match seven other mailing lists I maintain, so it can get confusing. A special note. These boards are not meant to compete with any other genealogy site honoring our surnames. Each site or list will have different people using them at any given time. The more exposure we can give our research, the better the results will be. Thanks to all of you for sharing your research and making our group one of the very best there is. You are all appreciated more than I can say. Joyce Gore Locke Kirkpatrick-L listowner
