    3. I'm a descendant of John "Hugh" Kirkpatrick through his son David Seiver Kirkpatrick.  If you look at any actual documents known to be from/about John "Hugh" Kirkpatrick you will see he is never named john HUGH Kirkpatrick, Just John Kirkpatrick.  I believe it was E. Spears McCollough (Sp?) who inserted the middle initial H as a middle "name."  Hugh was a fairly common name in the Kirkpatricks of this era and from Dumfrieshire, Scotland, as were Alexander, John and Andrew.  You have stumbled on one of the true problems of researching the Kirkpatricks -- they used the same names way too frequently.  --- On Fri, 4/3/09, kirkpatrick-request@rootsweb.com <kirkpatrick-request@rootsweb.com> wrote: From: kirkpatrick-request@rootsweb.com <kirkpatrick-request@rootsweb.com> Subject: KIRKPATRICK Digest, Vol 4, Issue 2 To: kirkpatrick@rootsweb.com Date: Friday, April 3, 2009, 7:00 AM Today's Topics: 1. He married Ruth Sample and lived in Jefferson Co TN. There is another Hugh Kirkpatrick, MG, living in Sumner CO Tn. Is this Hugh Kirkpatrick the son of Alexander Kirkpatrick and Jane Stewart and husband of Isabella Stewart? Are these two Hugh Kirkpatricks related? I have no information as to parentage of John Hugh Kirkpatrick, father of Rev Hugh of Jefferson County TN. There is a family tree shown on Ancestry.com which shows John Hugh to be son of Hugh Kirkpatrick, b. 1710 Lancaster Co Pa, d. 1768 Chester Co PA. There is a will from Chester Co shown for this Hugh showing sons John, Hugh, (Not John Hugh, but two separate names) David, & William, daughters Margaret Clinging, Hannah Barkly, Elizabeth Nisbet & Mary McConnell. Having a son named John Hugh, and another named John and a third named Hugh seems a little off to me. Any ideas anyone? Does anyone have any idea if and how these men are related. I find it interesting that the families use many of the same names, and both have a Rev. Hugh K. just a few counties apart. The Hugh K., MG in Sumner Co. - the first marriage I find attributed to him is Sep 1816, and the last one was Oct 1823 (these Sumner Co Tn marriages went from 1787-1824) meaning he may have been a generation younger than the Jefferson Co Hugh who died in 1810. Has anyone done research on these two lines with connecting them in mind?
