Betty K, Hart and family ------- Good news that you are getting family members signed up for the Family Tree DNA tests. Benjamin Kirkpatrick, the youngest son of Samuel (1766 PA-1826 OH) and Ruth Weir Kirkpatrick, married Eliza Mason in Ross Co, OH in 1834. They & 4 children moved from OH to IN, then to Mahaska Co, Iowa by fall of 1846. Benjamin's brother Samuel Kirkpatrick (1803 OH - 1875 IA) & wife Elizabeth (Betsy) Shaw and children also moved from OH to IN to Iowa. On the Iowa 1850 census they and 4 children are listed. Betsy Shaw Kirkpatrick died in 1827 in IA. Our line is from the oldest brother of Benjamin & Samuel --- James Kirkpatrick (b 1791 Cumberland Co, PA - d Champaign Co, IL). He, too came to IN with brothers Benjamin & Samuel; but they went on to Iowa and he & children went to Champaign Co, IL. What are the locations, dates, siblings and/or parents of your Thomas Kirkpatrick from OH? Thanks. Julia Kirkpatrick McKinney **************It's only a deal if it's where you want to go. I am happy to say that my cousin Rob Kirkpatrick has signed up for the Kirkpatrick test (67 count!), Our grandfather John Kirkpatrick is the son of Henry Kyger [Kygar} Kirkpatrick who was a union war veteran from Iowa. His father settled in Iowa in Kirkville shortly after the Northwest Territory was opened following the Black Hawk war. There was a list some years ago of Kirkpatricks in an early census posted on the internet. We know we are direct descendant of Thomas Kirkpatrick, buried in Ohio. I am also happy to report that my husband Franklin A Hart[II ] and his cousin Franklin A Hart Jr are being inducted into the SAR as a result of recent genealogical work. My husband has also submitted hid DNA which ties back to ancestors named Hart in Rhode Island and in New England initially. Third, for anyone who is a Baer, Bear, Bare or Bair, my mother's cousin on her father's side has also signed up so that our branch of the family is registered in the Baer genealogy. Johannes Bear is the first born in this country (Pennsylvania) Betty K Hart bhart9@comcast.net I or another Kirkpatrick will field inquiries since our "patriarch" has a large family and many responsibilities within our branch. I inquired while I took care of obtaining the materials and according to the researcher, the DNA results can be shared across geneolgical web sites. bkhart On Aug 26, 2008, at 8:38 PM, holmes family wrote: > I had my DNA tested in the National Geographic Geonome project. > Can't results from one DNA project beused for another? I am interested in the Thomas Kirkpatrick that was buried in Ohio. Do you know who his parents were or anything of his family? --- On Thu, 9/4/08, Betty Hart <bhart9@comcast.net> wrote: From: Betty Hart <bhart9@comcast.net> Subject: Re: [KIRKPATRICK] Descendants of Alexander Kirkpatrick of Scotland To: kirkpatrick@rootsweb.com Date: Thursday, September 4, 2008, 2:42 PM I am happy to say that my cousin Rob Kirkpatrick has signed up for the Kirkpatrick test (67 count!), Our grandfather John Kirkpatrick is the son of Henry Kyger [Kygar} Kirkpatrick who was a union war veteran from Iowa. Family Tree DNA has several test available at varying fees: cheapest is choosing to test only 12 pairs, vs 37 pairs vs. the most expensive 67 pairs. We chose to go with the most pairs to be tested, knowing that other DNA matches at the 37 or 67 pair level might have better paperwork that we could share back and forth. I think the most definitiveDNA test is to have a line of male to male to male descendants that are proven. That is harder to find these days. So you are lucky if you have a brother & his proven tree back several generations. Women can be tested, but somehow the results are different Good luck. I hope we can find the parents and/or siblings and/or date and place from which our 1703-1757 ancestor John Kirkpatrick came to that part of Pennsylvania. I think Monongalia, VA I'm looking for more on William and I must have found somewhere that his occupation was a Amith and he was married to Mary... -----Original Message----- From: kirkpatrick-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:kirkpatrick-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of IDAMADISON@aol.com Sent: Sunday, August 24, 2008 7:10 PM To: kirkpatrick@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [KIRKPATRICK] Greetings Kim, We are related. I am descended from Andrew Kirkpatrick and Elizabeth Bowen also. My line descends from their son, James Kirkpatrick/Kilpatrick who married Mary (Polly) Kincaid. Polly's father was Thomas Kincaid who was also a Rev. War soldier. James and Polly had a daughter Sarah (Sally) Kirkpatrick Sarah become the second wife of William Ewart and died in Cumberland Co. IL. Sarah and William had four children, the youngest of which was Thomas Kirkpatrick (Cap) Ewart. Thomas was my great grandfather. My great aunt who was very active in DAR, I believe, sent documentation to DAR that proved Andrew's Rev. War service. I do not have information regarding Andrew's father, so the name William is of great interest to me. My information is that Andrew was born in Ireland. I would imagine that information came from the fact that he came through Ireland from Scotland. Somewhere along the way, I had information that the Kirkpatricks were from Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland. I don't know where I got that information, so I just keep that in the back of my head to search for clues. Do you have a place of residence for this line in Scotland or Ireland? I will look through the DAR applications that my aunt sent me, and see if I she included one for Andrew. Also do you know where in VA William lived? I look forward to hearing from you. He immigrated in 1755 to Ireland and then to Virginia. He died in 1791. He was married to Mary ???? I'm not sure how many children they had but my line comes from their son Andrew (b. 1739 Scotland m. 1784 Elizabeth Bowen d. 1/15/1827 in Ohio). Andrew and William are said to have served in the Revolutionary War. Thanks for your input, Nadine. My James, son of Daniel, left a will with his name spelled Killpatrick and Kilpatrick, however his daughter used Kirkpatrick, and I have been to the Scottish games enough to have learned that all those spellings were used, with probably some other variations to boot. You could have omitted that part about there being so many Kirkpatricks in Scotland, and made me much happier, but I know we must state the facts and not our wishes in this business.
