    1. KIRKPATRICK / GOA(T)CHER / SMITHEE / BELL -- AR
    2. Steve/Betty Snow
    3. Is anyone else working on this family? I somehow managed to send this information back to myself when I thought I was responding to someone else -- and had deleted the earlier message. Anyway, Edmund is an ancestor and we sure would like to compare and fill in information -- maybe also this information might be of help to someone else. If so, please also let me know so we can do further comparing of notes. On in Edmund (aka Edward) Singleton KIRKPATRICK married Elizabeth SMITHEE, born in , daughter of , maybe first married to a GOATCHER -- maybe also previously married to a PARKER. She had had several children from her previous marriage, one of whom appears to have been James GOATCHER, (1858- ) age 22 in 1880 census for Conway Co. and a widower at age 52 in 1910 CENSUS, which indicates his father was born in ALABAMA). According to Mildred Flowers, other children by this previous marriage might be (however, she gave no proof): Esther GOATCHER Virgie GOATCHER Liusinda GOATCHER George GOATCHER Erasmus GOATCHER MF's notes also indicate Dr. A.L. GOATCHER of Conway Co., Arkansas was one of her children. From the 1880 census, it appears that Elizabeth, age 50 at the time of the 1880 census, had gone to live with her son James and his wife Mary, born c 1860. Edmund died in Shelbie Ville on Reeds Creek, Arkansas on June or Aug or Sept 1876? of and is buried at ?. Edmund might be listed in the Sharp Co. Ark census of 1870 and 1880. However, if the latter is correct, this would call into question Edmund's death in 1876! (Mildred says the 1880 census lists Edmond. S. RISKPATRICK." However, why then was Elizabeth living with her son James GOACHER/GOATCHER?) The census of 1880 indicates a half sister of James GOACHER, 9 in 1880, (born 1871) named Elvice Jane KIRKPATRICK. According to census of 1880, (1880 Census: Conway Co, Arkansas: James GOATCHER, 22/Mary, wife 20/Elizabeth KIRKPATRICK, mother, 50/Elvice Jane Kirkpatrick, 9, half-sister) He was married to Mary, born about 1860. From the 1880 census, it appears that Elizabeth, age 50 at the time of the 1880 census, had gone to live with her son James and his wife Mary. Day Jewell indicated that, according to a history of Randolph County of 1890, there were 4 children from Edmund and Elizabeth's marriage, three of whom were dead by 1889. Day Jewell says, according to that history of Randolph County in 1890, Edmund's daughter Eva KIRKPATRICK was a teacher in Conway County in 1889. >From the 1910 census, it appears that Dara BELL born c 1900 and Vernon BELL, born about 1903 were Edmund's grandchildren by Elizabeth. According to MF, there is a tombstone that reads: "Eva Jane KIRKPATRICK BELL, born 14 Feb, 1871 and died May 7, 1918" in Union Hill Cemetery, Conway Co., AR. According to indications in the 1910 census (Vanburgin Co., Arkansas): James M. GOACHER, 52, widower, born Arkansas, father born Alabama/Sarah, daughter, 24/Ara, daughter, 22/Andrew, son, 20/Adesa, daughter, 18/Thomas, son, 13/Jonnie (or Jannie) KIRKPATRICK 1/2 sister, 39, divorced/Dara BELL, neice, 10/ Vernon, nephew, 7) James M. GOACHER's wife had died some time before 1910 and after 1897, when their youngest was born. It thus appears Eva Jane was being called Jannie/Jonnie KIRKPATRICK and had divorced Mr. ___________BELL by the time of the 1910 census, but a last name of BELL was put on her tombstone when she died in 1918.

    3. All and sundry: Yesterday, I was researching my Kirkpatrick ancestors at the Wisconsin State Historical Society's Area Research Center at UW-Platteville, in the lead-mining region of WI where my GGG grandfather, J.H. Kirkpatrick, arrived in the late 1820s. I found a book entitled "A Kirkpatrick Genealogy: Being an Account of the Descendants of James Kirkpatrick of South Carolina, ca 1715-1786." This, to my delight, turned out to be my line, and may well be that of many of the subscribers to this list. (Considering how large the families were, there have to be a lot of James' descendants out there!) If there is interest, I will attempt to scan those pages that I copied (by no means all of the book) and post them to the list. I also intend to snail-mail the author, Melvin E. Kirkpatrick of Bloomington, Minn. (unless one of the cousins out there knows if he is on the Internet). For those of you who did not see my post when I joined the list a couple weeks back, or don't recall it, I descend from James Harrison Kirkpatrick, b. 1798 in GA, through his daughter, Mary L. (Kirkpatrick) Williams, wife of Lewis Williams, and their daughter, Mary Almeda, who married Lewis P. Fry. These families lived in southwest WI, Grant, Richland and Crawford counties. Scott

    3. Our Kirkpatrick family descends from James in the Carolinas and his son Francis. Some members of this family went from Jackson Co., TN to Franklin & Perry Counties in southern IL. Some stayed there and some went to AR. Right now I am trying to check on Kirkpatricks (and some Rogers, Silkwoods, Singletons, Harrisons, Tinsleys, Mulkeys, Walkers, Greenwoods, Ferris, Hodges, MacGlasson, etc.) who lived in that area from 1815 through to early twentieth century. It appears John (son of Francis) was in Franklin Co. by 1818, but other relatives came into the area as well. As yet I have not proven the relationships between the various Kirkpatrick families in this area, but have been making some progress, finding quite a few of his descendents who were not listed in the excellent book by Mel Kirkpatrick and David Hudson about descendants of James Kirkpatrick. I would like to hear from others who are researching Kirkpatricks who lived in this area during the eighteen and nineteen hundreds.
