    1. Kirkpatrick of Conheath?
    2. Sharon Bryant
    3. I just spent a few hours doing some on-site research and think I have narrowed down the Kirkpatrick line I'm trying to track. In MacVeigh's The Scottish Family History, 1891, Dumfries, SCT, I found a reference to the Empress Eugenie. >From other information that I have seen, Eugenie was a descendant of Sir Robert Kirkpatrick who is supposed to be the brother of my ancestress, Roseanne/Anne Kirkpatrick who married William Glendenning. In an aside on the Kirkpatrick family is the following statement in MacVeigh: " From a branch of the Kirkpatricks, styled of Conheath, is descended the Empress Eugenie, consort of Napoleon III, of France. According to one account, this branch springs from Alexander Kirkpatrick of Kirkmichael, 2d son of the 3d Roger de Kirkpatrick of Closeburn; the barony of Conheath having been bestowed on him as the reward of his valour in making a captive of the 9th earl of Douglas at Burnswick in 1484. ... The Empress Eugenie's great-great-grandfather joined the standard of the pretender in 1745,and being taken prisoner, died on the scaffold." (This would have been Sir Robert Kirkpatrick who died in 1746 after having left Scotland for Ireland following the defeat in 1715. He returned to Scotland and supported the Pretender in 1745). Does anyone have information regarding this Kirkpatrick line?

    3. Need help finding the parents of my John Mc. Kirkpatrick b. Jan. 31, 1824 in Allegheny Co., Pa. Married July 2, 1846 at the First Christian Church in Steubenville, Ohio to Martha Mecum/Mccombs. (Also marriage for William Kirkpatrick to Elizabeth Mecum in 1840- sisters and brothers??) Found in the 1850 Census in Knox Twp. occupation listed as a wagonmaker; with wife, Martha b. OH and son Cyrus W. age 3, b. OH. John and family are not in Jefferson Co. in the 1860 census. Where did they go??? Back to Pittsburg? Is it possible that John Kirkpatrick and Martha Mecum/McCombs were cousins? I found that John McComb was among the first residents of Salem Twp, East Springfield, OH. In the cemetery there are: William McComb 1739-1828 and Aramantha 1753-1838 Jacob McComb 1881 age 82 Mary Kirk, wife of Henry who died 1873 age 21 James Kirkpatrick, who died 1891 age 71 and wife Ann Sometime around the Civil War John Mc. Kirkpatrick changed the family name to Kirk. I checked the Probate Court in Jefferson Co., Ohio and there is no "legal" name change or will or any records pertaining to John Kirk/Kirkpatrick. John Kirk was a pvt of Battery D. 1st Battalion, Pa Art., enrolled June 4, 1864, mustered out Sept. 1864. >From this point on the name is only Kirk. His pension papers give his address as Wheeling, Livingston Co., Missouri in 1894. He died Aug. 1908 in the Old Soldiers Home in Leavenworth, Kansas. John's son Cyrus Wells Kirk also joined the War effort on Oct. 4, 1864 thru June 1865, but with the 39th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He moved to Chillicothe, Livingston Co., MO after 1866, where he married and had a family. There seems to be no contact between father and son??? I have been unable to locate John's wife's place or time of death. On John's pension application he lists himself as a widower with only one son. ??? I have been looking at this for so long that I can't see the forest for the trees. Please , any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. Kathleen ____ Kathleen in KC

    3. Does anyone have Kirkpatrick data for those living in Rockbridge Co., VA in the 1760-1790s? Charles, born 1759, married Nancy Boyd in 1791, and they are my direct line. They moved to Blount Co., TN. Another Charles, born 1764 also lived in Rockbridge Co. His father was Charles Sr. Charles Sr. married Agnes ___. Charles Jr. married Sarah Edington in Rockbridge Co., VA in 1794. Jr. left VA about the same time as my Charles and eventually settled in IL. My husband is distantly related to those descending from John of Lancaster Co., PA, who moved to TN. John Kirkpatrick married Jane Wilkens, daughter of Rachel McFarland, who was a sister to my husbands direct line. Rachel and parents came to PA from Ireland about 1718. Would these Kirkpatrick families be related? 3. Yes, I have a John Kirkpatrick who married a Hannah Morrison.... unfortunately, no descendants as I haven't researched this line yet. There were several John's in 1790's tax lists for KY, but none in Bourbon Co. by 1810 Census. Descendants of John Kirkpatrick Generation No. 1 1.  JOHN KIRKPATRICK was born Unknown, and died Bef. October 25, 1800 in Bourbon Co., KY (Source: Inventory of estate dated 25 Oct 1800 (have copy).).  He married HANNAH MORRISON June 02, 1791 in Bourbon Co., KY (Source: Thos Kirkpatrick signed marriage bond dated May 31, 1793.  IGI says same m. 02 Jul 1791 in Bourbon Co., KY.Type written p. 8 from unknown book verifies date m. by Rev. A. McClure.). (I'm not sure as to the bond dated 1793... perhaps I should look at it again... but the inventory of estate doesn't mention much to prove whether it matches THIS John Kirkpatrick) The following 1st generation is on my web page at http://www.geocities.com/heartland/6540/ Thomas Kirkpatrick, Sr. b. 1735-40?/20-30?, m. unknown. Thomas died: unknown. No evidence found for these being parents or children being related (only guess is the locality of all of them). Researched & recorded by Jefferson D. Kirkpatrick, few concrete sources found. This first generation is very speculative. Possible Children: 1. Thomas Kirkpatrick, Jr. b. 1765-1784, m. Elizabeth Mitchell, 24 Feb 1791, in Bourbon Co., KY, b. bef. 1765?. Thomas died: unknown. Have copy of estate appraisal & sale, & marriage bond. 2. Joseph Kirkpatrick (KY-4) b. before 1764, m. Keziah Mitchell, 24 Mar 1791, in Bourbon Co., KY, b. 1760-1770. Joseph died May/Jun 1817. Children verified in will.  Have copy of will, inventory, & marriage bond. Keziah: Also spelled as Kasiah/Kiziah 3. John Kirkpatrick m. Hannah Morrison, 02 Jun 1791, in Bourbon Co., KY. John died ?? ?? 1800. 4. Benjamin Kirkpatrick m. Mary Kirkpatrick, 18 Apr 1797, in Bourbon Co., KY, Bap abt. 1776. Mary: Maiden name appears to be Mary Kirkpatrick in AAI CD#2/229 5. Martha Kirkpatrick m. William Martin, 13 Mar 1805, in Bourbon Co., KY. 6. James Kirkpatrick (KY-6) Jailor of Mercer Co., KY, m. Anne Shelp, 10 May 1803, in Bourbon Co., KY, b. Adams Co., OH?. See land deed records in Mercer Co., KY in KNL v.VII, #1, p22. 7. Elizabeth Kirkpatrick b. 27 Dec 1796, Paris, Bourbon Co., KY, m. John Galloway, 15 Jan 1807, in Paris, Bourbon Co., KY. JAH source shows bondsman was Thomas Kirkpatrick. 3. Hello to all! Seeing that we have had some traffic of late thought I would try again with my line of KIRKPATRICK. I have had some breaks in my research recently. I am researching Thomas A. KIRKPATRICK and wife Rachel (PORTER) KIRKPATRICK. Both born in Ohio, not sure where, but were married in Jefferson Co, OH in 1842. Moved to Jackson Co. VA, according to 1850 census. Lost them until the 1880 census in Johnson Co., KS. I assumed this is where they lived out the rest of their lives,WRONG!!! After researching the local newspaper (The Olathe Mirror, Johnson CO., KS) I came across an article stating they had sold the farm and were moving to Northeast MO. I found their three older children in and around the Memphis, Scotland Co., MO area according to the 1870/1880/1900 census. I recieved an excert from a book published by the Scotland Co. Genealogical Society. The book contains many stories about the early settlers and I was sent an excert reguarding the William KIRKPATRICK and Marth (HAYS) KIRKPATRICK family of the area. This excert stated "it is believed that this family (Thomas A. KIRKPATRICK family) is possible related to our family, meaning the William KIRKPATRICK family. My question is: Is any one out there researching this William and Martha KIRKPATRICK family? If so can you pass on any insight on this? It is believed that my Thomas/Rachel KIRKPATRICK are buried in the Buskirk Cemetery in Scotland Co. I do have another write up on the William KIRKPATRICK family that I would be willing to pass on to anyone researching this family. Their children: Sarah KIRKPATRICK m Norman HAMBLETON 13 May 1860 in Scotland Co., MO Mathew KIRKPATRICK m Fanney NEAL 25 Jan 1865 in Scotland Co., MO Margaret KIRKPATRICK m John GOLLIKER (GOLLIHER) in Scotland Co., MO James L> KIRKPATRICK m Alice LINDSEY 27 April 1873 in Johnson Co., Kansas, they never moved away from Johnson Co., Kansas. Buried in the Olatha Cemetery. James is my ggrandfather. Elizabeth KIRKPATRICK d 1872? in Johnson Co. KS Thank you for any help you all can send my way. Becky in Arizona

On Wednesday evening last Mr. James Kilpatric was killed by a party of Indians on Poor Valley Creek, about 17 miles from Hawkins Courthouse and 3 miles from the main Kentuckey road. Mr. Kilpatric had gone out to drive up his cattle, and was not more than 400 yards from his house when the Indians fired on him; they instantly made off without attempting to scalp him. I thought I might as well tell you all who I am researching, and hopefully, someone will be interested in trading information with me. I am researching WILLIAM (c1735 - d1781NC) & SARAH RUTH (c1740 MD - d1830KY) KIRKPATRICK and family. This family began in Harford Co., MD, went to NC abt 1770, then to KY abt 1790. Mainly I want to know the names and birthplaces of WILLIAM's parents. Thanks very much. Sharon
