I am unable to make the link at the bottom of your email work. Can you provide one that does work? Ron Klein I am interested in James Kirkpatrick (the immigrant) b about 1710 in Nithsdale, Dumfriesshire, Scotland who died 9 May 1786 in Lockhart,Chester, SC and his son James Kirkpatrick believed born 1743 in PA, who died on 1 January 1781 when he was murdered in his home by neighboring Tories following a battle by his patriot unit that was a huge defeat to the Tories. James, the Patriot, is my 5th gr-grandfather. The line descends directly from Sir Roger Kirkpatrick who finalized the deaths of double agent Comyn and his Uncle in 1306 at the Church which is the origin of the I Mak Sikkar expression and the bloody dagger as part of the family crest. ATTENTION all KIRKPATRICKS and BRUCES A CALL TO ARMS! (sort of) It has recently come to my attention that a site important to bothclans AND the history of Scotland has been cut off from public access and mayultimately be lost to us forever. The site of which I speak is the Alter site of the Old Greyfriars Church in Dumfries, the site where Robert theBruce and Sir Roger Kirkpatrick jointly “dispatched” the treacherous John “theRed” Comyn on 10 February 1306, who brought challenge to Robert The Bruce’sclaim to the Scottish Throne. Thebuilding has been boarded up and access is denied to all except those who maywish to purchase or rent the building. Atrue tragedy for the Bruces, Kirkpatricks and all of Scotland. The following is from The Bruce Society (http://www.brucetrust.co.uk/home.html) The Trust has just embarked on its most ambitious project so far. A shop on Castle Street in Dumfries, the old Poundstretcher store, iscurrently empty. This shop sits on the site of the 14th century Friary where the Comynslaying took place. In 1902 the Dumfries and Galloway Antiquarian Society was behind anarchaeological dig on the site when nine shops were demolished and they foundwhat was widely agreed to be the altar stone that Bruce and Comyn would havebeen standing close to on that fateful Thursday in 1306. To add to the evidence, two skeletons were found close to the stone butnot touching it and they were thought to be that of Comyn and his uncle. Obviously this would be an ideal site for a visitor centre marking whatwas a history shaping event and celebrating the life of King Robert. Agents have indicated they might well be happy to let us have it. Butwe need to find finances, and quickly. Such buildings are rarely available forlong. The Trust is obviously trying to raise funds but we are also appealingfor donations and we hope you can help. Please go to our Donations page and follow the instructions. AND We are actively in seeking finance for such a venture which will be anexpensive exercise and we need as much help as we can possibly get. If you are interested in our project and would like to be involved, please send your donations by clicking on the button below... http://www.brucetrust.co.uk/donations.htmlYou also email us at info@brucetrust.co.uk if you have any questions. If you TRULY are proud of your Kirkpatrick & Scottish heritage, goto the donation link in the above article and give money to save the I MAKSIKKAR site. I just donated £50.00 GBP./$76 US I challenge all other K' descendants to dothe same.

Tom: We were there (Closeburn) last week -- were unable to make contact with the family who I believe live at least part of the year in Spain. It's hard to get a good shot, but when I download pictures (we just got home today) I'd be delighted to send you what I have. Do you also know about the mural and plaque in Dumfries? Again will send pictures if you haven't. Cary Bailey On Sep 28, 2013, at 9:31 PM, Tomas A Caully wrote: > > > Does anyone know the current owner(s) of Closeburn Castle? Does anyone know the current owner(s) of Closeburn Castle? I would like to contact them and secure permission to take a group tour on the property in June of 2015 to take pictures. Thanks
I have one son who has expressed an interest. And time in Dumfries would be good; and maybe Closeburn. stc ________________________________ From: Tom Caulley <tcaulleysgenmail@yahoo.com> To: Kirkpatrick <KIRKPATRICK@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, August 23, 2013 7:13 PM Subject: [KIRKPATRICK] (no subject) I'm trying to see if there is interest in a group tour to Scotland in 2015. Hey Kirkpatrick men, Check it out! Y-DNA 12 MARKER Test now only $49. Just letting you know http://www.familytreedna.com is now charging only $49 for the Y-DNA 12 Marker test. Ever wondered if you are related to Sir Roger Kirkpatrick of Scottish historical fame? This could prove you are (or aren't). By doing a y-dna test you will be able to find other relatives AND help all Kirkpatrick researchers fill in the picture. I'm encouraging any and all male Kirkpatricks to take a Y-DNA test......we ALL benefit. Tom Caulley Visit http://tinyurl.com/Kirk-Kil-Clans
I'm currently working on a huge family history of the Kirkpatricks that settled in the SE Corner of Washington Co, with many descendants moving into St. Francois Co. IN PARTICULAR, I'd like to find a male-Kirkpatrick descendant of one of the following sons of David Sevier Kirkpatrick (who died while in route to Washington Co ca 1823) to help us by doing a DNA test to help set the base-line DNA for our family. For this test it MUST be a male Kirkpatrick with an unbroken father-to-son connection back to David Sevier Kirkpatrick. David's children who settled in the area were: Joseph Marion Kirkpatrick (b 1800 – d 1874 M Patsey Ross & Mary White) Sons David William Kirkpatrick 1830 – 1879 William R. Kirkpatrick 1836 – 1903 John Kirkpatrick 1839 – 1879 Joseph Marion Kirkpatrick Jr. 1843 – 1903 James Monroe Kirkpatrick 1847 – 1926 David Kirkpatrick (b 1806 – d 1874 M Nancy Campbell) Sons James M. Kirkpatrick 1833 – 1899 William Robert Kirkpatrick 1835 – 1899 Harrison D. Kirkpatrick 1840 – 1930 John Henry Kirkpatrick 1845 – 1921 Martin Kirkpatrick 1848 – 1892 David Kirkpatrick 1849 – Hugh Kirkpatrick (b 1807 – d after 1860) Robert Kirkpatrick (b 1812 – d after 1844) James Kirkpatrick (b 1814 – d?) If you fit the requirements and would like to help OR if you think you know one of these Kirkpatricks from St. Francois Co., MO, please email me directly at tcaulleysgenmail{AT}yahoo.com (Chand {AT} to @ Thanks Tom Caulley

I've added headstone links in the following states: ILLINOIS INDIANA KENTUCKY MARYLAND & DELAWARE MISSOURI NEW JERSEY NORTH CAROLINA OHIO PENNSYLVANIA SOUTH CAROLINA TENNESSEE VIRGINIA & WEST VIRGINIA These are the main states where Kirpatricks and Kilpatricks lived before 1900. I may add Alabama, Arkansas and texas at some much later date (I need to let my eyes recuperate after doing all of these. ) I also added 8 more wills I found in North Carolina. I have posted everything I have, could copy, and find on the internet; Now, folks, the ball is in your court. I need you all to go through your Kirkpatrick and Kilpatrick files and send me ANYTHING that you think is worthy of posting. Scanned documents, photos and old newsletters...any-and-everything is welcome. Let's make this the BEST KIRKpatrick & KILpatrick research and sharing site on the world wide web.
