    1. [KING-TN] WORMELEY - KING Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Lena WORMELEY (age 1 year 11 months) and Elizabeth WORMELEY (age 2 months 8 days) which was taken on the 8th of August 1895 at the Bingham Studio in Memphis, Tennessee. The photograph was a gift to their Grandmother originally. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding the girls and their family: Mary Elizabeth WORMELEY was b. 30 May 1895 in Memphis, TN to parents Ralph WORMELEY (1855-1921) and Leni Leoti PORTER (b. 1871). There were three children born to this couple including, Lena; Mary Elizabeth; and Annie WORMELEY, all born between 1893 and 1900. Mary Elizabeth married Eldridge Claude KING (1891-1974) and together they had three children including a son, Eldridge Claude KING Jr. b. 1918. Mary Elizabeth and her husband Eldridge KING lived in Johnson City TN and Erwin TN over the years according to census records. Census records provide the following details: 1910 census of Memphis, TN: Ralph WORMELEY, age 54, 2nd marriage 18 years, born TN, parents born TN/VA, a Merchant Leli P. WORMELEY, wife, age 36, 1st marriage, 18 years, 6 children/2 living, born KY, parents born KY Lena WORMELEY, dau, age 16, born TN Elizabeth WORMELEY, dau, age 14, born TN + 1 Servant I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that the photograph can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. [KING-TN] GEDCOMS-What You Need To Do
    2. George W. Durman
    3. Ever since I posted that I would accept GEDCOMs (.GED files), I have been inundated with files, the senders asking that their family trees be added to the Germanna Families database at Rootsweb. I have a problem! It is extremely difficult to add other researchers' databases to our main Germanna database if those who send such .GED files haven't made sure that their databases adhere to normal standards for database construction. What I mean is, if you send me a GEDCOM and it is full of errors as far as construction is concerned, it takes me hours, even days, to correct it so that I can add it to the main database. Examples: 1) You enter "places" as: Podunk, VA Podunk, Virginia Podunk, Whatever County, VA Podunk, Whatever County, Virginia Podunk, Whatever Co., VA Podunk, Whatever Co., Virginia 2) You don't enter surnames in your databases in capital letters. It makes it a lot easier to concentrate on surnames if you put them in your database in ALL CAPS. 3) You enter dates such as 3/4/1890. How in the #*^*(* are we to know if that means 03 Apr 1890, or 04 Mar 1890? You are free to use whatever date convention you wish, whether its Day/Month/Year, or Month/Day/Year, just don't use NUMBERS!!!!! The American standard has been to use Month/ Day/Year, while, at the same time, most genealogy researchers (and everyone else in the world) use the Day/Month/Year. Whatever convention you use, don't use a number for the Month!!!!! Dang it, how hard is it to type in 11 Dec 1876, or Dec 11 1876, instead of 11-12-1876, or 12-11-1876? Give us a break! Etc., etc., ad infinitum. Can you see that you must adopt a standard format for entering places and dates in you databases? I really don't care what format you use, but you must use the same format throughout your database!!!!! Let's get it together and use a standardized format for place names! Look at your database. How many different forms of the same place name do you have there? Is there any reason that you can't use ONE standard format for place names? I don't care if you have "just" copied place names from other databases on Ancestry/Rootsweb, when you incorporate them into your database, make adjustments, make corrections, put them right! If you want to enter a person's birth, marriage, or death place as a certain town, look up the county where that town is located and include the COUNTY in the "place", (If you were using a "good" genealogy database program, you would have access to a "Place Finder", which would tell you where any town/city was located. I'm just tired of having to correct place names, where the originators of the databases have used multiple place names, all different (but the same place), and can't seem to use ONE common place name. For Heaven's Sake, why can't you decide one on ONE common place name? Yes, attention to detail is very desirable when entering data into your computer database program. If you're serious in this genealogical study, why can't you be serious in how you enter data into the database? Continuing to be an "Arschloch", I challenge you to "get it right"! Sarge

    1. [KING-TN] AOL Users - Problems with Question Marks in Your Posts
    2. George W. Durman
    3. This is a subject that has been aggravating many recipients of email from users who are AOL subscribers. The problem is that AOL causes question marks to be randomly inserted into the text when viewed by non-AOL users. This is most annoying when viewing posts to these Mailing Lists. It also shows up in private posts, depending on the email browser being used by the recipient. As many (including me) have suspected, it is a problem with the AOL users' configuration within the AOL email program. When AOL upgraded hardware and software recently, the changes caused some problems with AOL users' configuration settings. J. Young posted a "fix" for this problem on the Listowners Mailing List and any of you who are AOL users should follow the instructions and make sure you have the proper settings. ========================================== On the AOL's WEB MAIL on the Mail Page, behind the words "AOL Mail" ,in very small print, is a link to "Settings." Use the following steps: 1. Click on "Settings". 2. Look below the "Back to Mail" button; there is a list that includes: General, Accounts, Compose, Spam Controls, Calendar, Instant Messenger. 3. Click on "Compose". 4. From the resulting list, REMOVE the check mark from in front of "Use Rich Text/HTML Editing". 5. Click on the "tab" for "SAVE". 6. Then Click on "Back to Mail". ========================================== Please make correction if you are going to post to one of the Mailing Lists at Rootsweb. (As a matter of fact, until AOL "fixes" the problem, I would suggest that you make the change for all your emails, because I've received personal email from AOL users where those dang question marks show up randomly all over the text. It makes reading the text extremely difficult.) Regards, Sarge (George W. Durman) List Administrator

    1. [KING-TN] Important Notice for AOL Users
    2. George W. Durman
    3. From time to time, we List Administrators have problems with subscribers to our Lists whose email server is AOL. This note is sent to explain the problem and to attempt to help AOL users correctly configure their email settings. The AOL mail system uses both a "Black List" and a "White List". The Black List contains those email addresses that the user does NOT want to receive email from; the White List contains those email addresses that the user DOES want to receive email from. The problem with AOL's system is that if a user puts, for example, the address johnqpublic@whatever.com in his/her Black List, and JohnQPublic is a subscriber to a Mailing List at Rootsweb, then AOL, for some reason, rejects all email from the List. If you're an AOL user, PLEASE make sure you don't "Blacklist" any List subscribers, AND make sure you have put the email address of the Mailing List(s) in your "White List". Thanks, Sarge

    3. Hello L. U.: My wife's mother was a KING. The farthest back we have been able to trace her line is to a William B. KING; b.1776, in NC; m.Elizabeth RHEA, abt.1808, in NC. We have only one child for William and Elizabeth, Andrew "Andy" KING, my wife's g-g-grandfather. Sure wish we could find out more about her KING ancestry too. Our KING families of NC ended up, first, in Blount and Sevier Counties of TN, then spread out, it seems, to Knox, Monroe, Loudon, and other Counties. There are several KING families in the early days of Washington and Greene Counties, but we've never been able to connect to them. We have a David, but he was the son of Andrew "Andy" KING and Elizabeth HENDERSON. David was born abt 1845, so would have been too late for your David. Andrew and Elizabeth had one other child that we know of, Elisha "Lish" KING, who is my wife's g-grandfather. Please keep in touch. Who knows! Maybe we'll tie all those NC KING families together some day. Regards, George At 17-04-07 02:48 PM Tuesday, L U Weston wrote: *********START OF ORIGINAL MESSAGE TEXT********* >King Query > >1.
