    3. Thanks to another KING researcher several years ago, I was able to back up information left me by a gggrandmother re: Dr. John KING, b. 1746 Leicestershire, England - d. Sept. 1795 Wake Co., NC. Dr. KING was educated at Oxford and the London Medical College getting degrees in both medicine and ministry. His father, Joel (John) KING disinherited him after he joined the Methodist Society after hearing John Wesley, who advised him to come to America in 1769; began preaching in Old Potters Field, Philadelphia, August 1770. Removed to Wilmington, NC where he was auditor of Dist of Wilmington 1780-1781; married 1774 Sarah SEAWELL, dau of Col. Benjamin and Lucy (HICKS) SEAWELL. He was also circuit rider in KY and was witness to many verbal wills. According to his will, he and Sarah had six children: 1. Elizabeth 'Betsey' KING, b. 1776, Granville Co., NC 2. Joel KING, b. 1778, NC - d. 1863 Franklin Co., NC md. Martha LONG on 8/28/1806 in Franklin Co., NC and had William Richmond KING, who md. Temperance Williams TUNSTALL, Helen KING, Benjamin KING, and John G. KING, b. 1810, Louisburg, Franklin Co., NC. 3. John Wesley KING, b. 1779, Brunswick Co., VA - d. abt 1856 Nolensville, Williamson Co., TN md. (1) his cousin Elizabeth SEAWELL; md (2) Mary TARVER dau of Benjamin TARVER and Hannah SMITH, with whom he had Benjamin Tarver KING, who md. Susan MATTHEWS. 4. Benjamin Seawell KING, b. 1780 Brunswick Co., VA - became well-to-do businessman in Raleigh; served as court clerk in Wake Co. 5. Thomas KING, b. 1787 Wake Co., NC - d. Benton Co., TN md. Sara WATSON in 1817 and had Jeremiah KING, who md. Ridley HAYWOOD; Chesley KING, who md. Catherine KELLING; Wesley KING, who md. Rebecca Ann AUTRY; Duncan KING, who md. Mary Elizabeth CHILDRESS; and John KING, b. 1816 NC - d. aft 1858 Carroll Co., TN, who md. Arabella HORN 1838 TN and had issue. 6. William Fletcher KING, b. 1791 Raleigh, Wake Co., NC - d. KY (This is my ancestor). He married April 11, 1815 Katherine JORDAN, dau of William JORDAN and Lucy STITH. He followed his father's footsteps becoming a Methodist minister. He and Katherine had two children: Elizabeth KING and Mary Fletcher KING, b. 3/19/1821 KY - d. 7/13/1897 Macon, MO. Mary Fletcher KING married (1) Allen Boone LAWSON October 24, 1839 in Breckinridge City, Breckinridge Co., KY with whom she had two daughters: Nancy Catherine LAWSON, b. 12/17/1840 - d. 8/20/1918 md. Rev. Daniel Webster COOLEY 6/2/1859.; and Eudora Jane LAWSON, b. April 8, 1846 Big Springs, Breckinridge Co., KY - d. 4/30/1911 Bucklin, Linn Co., MO md. 7/27/1862 Linn Co., MO Jordan SIGHTS. After Allen LAWSON died (bef 1865), Mary Fletcher KING md. Absolum Weakly, another Methodist minister and widow. (Mary Fletcher (KING) LAWSON is my gggrandmother, who did the KING research).
