Hi Wendy I have Benedict King in the 1860 U.S. Federal Census in Lawrence Township, Tioga County, PA. He states he is 50 years old which would date his birth about 1810. He sates he was born in Rhode Island. Also listed in his household are: Caroline - female - age 52 - born NY Truman - male - age 21 - born NY Martin - male - age 18 - born NY Hiram - male - age 16 - born NY Diana - female - age 15 - born NY This same family also appears in the US Federal Census of 1850, also in Tioga County. The only major difference is that Benedict states in this census that he was born in NY, not Rhode Island. If you visit Tri-Counties Geneology Sites by Joyce M Tice, you will find the census transcriptions there. In the 1850 census, the family is located in Farmington Township and the spelling of Benedict is transcribed as "Berndert" in one transcription, and "Burndert" in the other. Also, the spelling of Martin is transcribed as "Freeman" in both transcriptions. In the 1860 census in Lawrence Township, the transcriptions have the spellings as Benedict and Truman. This Benedict would be different from the Benedict you mention in your e-mail as being born abt 1851 in PA.
