Abner H. King, 1841 Barbour Co., AL. In a previous emailing you asked about KING FAMILY INFORMATION, and I got a brain-storm last night. There would be much data in an old book done by Reba Wilson, title, LEES AND KINGS. I don't know where you'd find that book other than genealogy libraries; however, it does deal in the area of early eastern NC Lees and Kings, and should provide information. I hasten to add that the Wilson book offers a Lee line of descent (including my John Lee, Esq. of Johnston Co., NC) - with which I DO NOT AGREE. Having said that, there's nothing wrong with the RAW DATA in the book. It's the INTERPRETATION OF that data ABOUT MY LEE LINE with which I disagree. There is a will of one SOLOMON KING in Gates Co., NC, whom I believe to be in the "thick of it" in that county, as follows: SOLOMON KING (will) GATES CO., NC [Undated, but about 1785] Wife Abigail, grand-sons Solomon King Goodman, William Goodman, Elisha Porter, Demsey King Sumner, and Solomon King Valentine, grand-son Nathaniel Tynes land in Edgecombe County, grand-daughter Mary Goodman, daughter Eliza Tynes, son- in-law Thomas Tynes, daugahters Abigail Porter, Martha Sumner and Abigail Valentine, Rebecca King Valentine (wife, David Darden, JOHN LEE, son-in-law Jethro Sumner, and Henry Goodman Exrs. Test, Wm. Goodman, Jas. Gatling, Jane Sanders. HENRY KING (will) GATES CO., NC Jan 23, 1782; Nov Crt 1782 Wife Mary, sons William and John, daughters Elizabeth, Mary and Sarah, wife and BROTHER SOLOMON Exrs. Test, Henry King, George Dunn, Francis Speight, Abigail King. I don't know as yet who was father of: SIMON KING (will) GATES CO., NC Oct. 3, 1817; Feb. Court 1818. Daughter CHRISTIAN*, sons John, William, Swain and Norman, wife Mary, brother Norman King and Joseph Riddick Exrs. Test, Wm. King, Henry King. * The will of CYPRIAN CROSS, Gates Co., NC, Dec 13, 1809; Feb. Term. 1810 WIFE: CHRISTIAN*, sons Riddick, Abraham and Jesse R. Cross, DAUGHTER PRISCILLA LEWIS' CHILDREN BETSEY, PHILLIP and NANCY**. Daughters Nancy Vann, Elizabeth Vann, and Salley Cross, son Taylor Cross, John Vann Exr. Test, Jas. Usher, Jas. Williams, WM. L. SMITH. PRISCILLA (CROSS) LEWIS was apparently the wife of LUTON LEWIS, though she is referred to in Luton's will as "Peggy" [which would be nothing out of the ordinary, as nicknames and at-the-time interchangeable names were common coin] see this: LUTON LEWIS (will) Gate Co., Oct. 22, 1807; Aug. Crt. 1811 WIFE PEGGY**, sons ELVEY [KG: MINE - FATHER OF EMELINE & ALSO YOURS, AS FATHER OF ELIZABETH m. Abner H. King] and Luton, BROTHER PHILLIP, son PHILLIP**, DAUGHTERS ELIZABETH, NANCY AND PRISCILLA LEWIS**, child in esse. Test, Jos. Speight, Eff Lewis. KG: ** The wife and children above named by Luton Lewis, match the daughter and grandchildren in the will of CYPRIAN CROSS - father of PRISCILLA/PEGGY m. Luton Lewis (who HAS daughters PRISCILLA, ELIZABETH AND NANCY - AND - SON PHILLIP), etc. It looks very much to me as though you and I, William, are both descendants of CYPRIAN CROSS - AND - SIMON KING. At this point, I don't know who was father of Simon King, but I suggest to you that the King family ties seen here in Gates Co. persist all the way down into Barbour Co., AL. Kay G.
