Hi King List Members, Ken's post of 19/10/98 struck me because it ties into my own family tradition. My grandmother was a granddaughter of Tranquilla KING. Grandmother and her sisters used to say that we were descended from Pocahontas... Some years ago, a distant cousin, also descended from Tranquilla and who never knew my grandmother, mentioned having the same family tradition. Does anyone else share this tradition? Here is what I (think) I know of my KING ancestors: KING, Tranquilla b. 1830, TN, mar. Rufus McCain in AL in 1850. KING, Amazon, b. abt. 1809, NC?, mar. Masie HAWS in TN in 1830. Possible father: KING, Miller, b. abt. 1780, mar. Sarah R. ____, place and date unknown. However, Lou Pero sent this some time ago: NOTE: Wayne Co., IL Chancery Court record, p33: Your petitioners John SCOTT and William WOOD on (blank) 1848 show that Westwood KING departed this life dying seized of the following real estate viz: ... which estate descended to said decedant from David KING by will. That said decedent left the following heirs and legal representatives viz: Highley KING his mother who intermarried with Washington FARRIS the said Highley who is desceased and Amazon KING, Amanda KING, Philip KING, Preston KING Emily KING and Elizabeth KING brothers and sisters. The said Amanda intermarried with Reuben FOWLER, Emily intermarried with William WOOD, the said Emily departed this life during the life of the said Westwood leaving the following children, minors, viz: John WOOD, Alfred WOOD, and Julia Ann WOOD.... Anyone have further information? Regards, Karen Trouvat KTrouvat@aol.com
