My King line is very short: John Luther King, m. July 29, 1884 to Essie Ophelia Tribble in Anderson Co., SC. John Luther was known by his grandchildren as "Papa," and worked as a railroad supervisor of some kind in South Carolina. These are my great-grandparents. I don't know if she was the only child from this marriage, but my grandmother was Ruth King, who married my grandfather Harry Merck and lived in Bishopville, SC. She died right around 1964. I'd love to hear if anyone has any knowledge of John Luther. Sounds like he was quite a character! My father lived with him for a while as a child, and tells some really amusing stories about him. -Rebecca Merck
