It's been awhile since I posted my King family "most wanteds," so I thought it was time to do it again in hopes someone new has joined the list with just the information I want, or who wants the information I have. My King family originated in this country (or what is now this country) about 1730 when John and Martha King arrived in what is now Adams County, Pennsylvania from County Tyrone, Ulster, Ireland, with their daughter Martha, and four sons, Victor, William, James and Samuel. Samuel is soon lost to view, but it is known he had at least two children. He evidently left the area, possibly migrating to North Carolina. Victor, William, and James all remained in Adams County (until 1800 this area was a part of York County). James married, but as far as is no had no children, William never married, and Victor, who was married twice, had six children by his first wife, Jean. These children were: Jean b. 16 Nov 1746, Hugh b. 17 Jan 1750 [was a soldier in the Revolution] John b. 22 Sep 1753, Agnes b. 10 Mar 1756, Victor Jr. b. 30 Jul 1758, and Martha b. 28 Nov 1760. By his second wife, Jane Moffit, Victor had five more children: Susanna b. 25 Jul 1762, William b. 3 Jan 1764, Samuel Moffett b. 16 Feb 1766, James b. 31 May 1768, and Thomas b. after 1764. On 2 Apr 1787, William King married Nancy Agnes Waugh. Nancy's parents were John Waugh and Susannah Moffett. It is possible, in fact likely, that Susannah Moffett and Jane Moffit were sisters (in spite of the difference in spelling). In 1789 William and Nancy moved to Georgetown, Scott County, Kentucky, where their first five children were born. In about 1799 or 1800, they moved to what is now Dayton, Ohio, where William purchased land from the government. William died on 18 Sep 1863, and Nancy had died on 1 Jul 1839, both in Dayton. Their children were: Mary King b. 1789, Victor b. 11 Mar 1790, John b. 16 Oct 1791, Samuel Moffett, b. 11 Nov 1793, Susan b. 15 Oct 1796, and Jane b. 1800 (in Dayton) John King, son of William and Nancy, moved to Madison, Jefferson County, Indiana in the summer of 1817, with his older brother, Victor. In December 1817 John married Harriet _____. John and Harriet King lived the rest of their lives in Madison, Indiana, John becoming prominent in the business community there, and both being active in the 1st Presbyterian Church. Their children were: William b. 6 Apr 1820 d. 30 Sep 1847, Thomas b. 8 Oct 1822 d. 28 Mar 1824, Margaret Jane b. 21 Jul 1825, Mary Elizabeth b. 3 Mar 1828 d. 26 Mar 1836, and Nancy Waugh b. 16 Jun 1830. John King died 6 Apr 1872, and Harriett died 4 Sep 1872. Margaret Jane King married Josiah S. Weyer in Madison on 5 Mar 1844. Their children were: John King Weyer b. 15 Jul 1845 [my g-grandfather], Harriet Ella Weyer b. 11 Aug 1848, Frank Steward Weyer b. Mar 1853 and died in infancy, and David Agnew Weyer b. 12 Jul 1854. Margaret Jane King died 18 May 1857 in Madison. Out of these, the "most wanted?" What was Harriett King's maiden name? Where were she and John married? John's obituary says they were married in Dayton, but I have not been able to find any record there, even though his father, William, was a deacon and secretary of the Presbyterian Church in Dayton during that period. I also know that my Kings had relatives in North Carolina (and that the Waughs did as well), who were these relatives, and how did they get to North Carolina? What was the history of the Kings in Ireland? Willing to share any information I have. Bill
