Seeking ancestry of Mary R. KING (b. TN, d. Moniteau Co., MO, 1872) m. James G. Gunter. James G. Gunter was b. 1794 NC (Burke-Buncombe Cos. where his father Augustus Gunter was living 1790 & 1800 Censuses). James most likely m. Mary KING in Warren Co., TN where his father Augustus Gunter was living from c1807 and where Augustus was listed on the 1812 Tax List of that county. 53 taxables are listed in Joseph Elledge, Esq.'s Dist. on the 1812 list, but no KING, so I conjecture that Mary KING's family came into the county somewhat later than the Gunters. Augustus Gunter and several of his sons removed to Marion Co., TN at the AL border c1822. Augustus and at least one of his sons remained in Marion Co., TN, but two sons crossed over the Tennessee River and took up land in Jackson Co., AL c1825: John G. Gunter (my ancestor) and his brother, James G(lass) Gunter. James G. Gunter was on the 1830 Census of Jackson Co., AL, but in 1835, James G. Gunter and Mary R. (KING) Gunter removed to Missouri, where they are shown on the 1850 Fed. Census in Camden County (on Big Niangua), and where James G. Gunter was named administrator of the estate of Julian King, 1835 Pulaski Co., MO. One Thomas Woolsey furnished security in est. settlement of Julian King (Julian King, presumed brother of Mary R. (King) Gunter). James & Mary resided in Camden, Pulaski and Moniteau Cos., MO. Both d. in Moniteau Co. Any information about Mary R. (King) Gunter's pre-marital family would be gratefully received!
