    1. [KING-L] John Hobson KING, b. 1779? NC
    2. R. L. Buzz Bower
    3. I have been trying to get info on John Hobson King and it seems to be very conflicting. From 4 different sources 2 agree with the birth date of 6 July 1779. I found a John King that was born on that date in Oscar Benjaminn King's book p.59 that was from a family Bible held by a S.B. Parker. Since it doesn't give the middle name I hesitate to accept this as the John I am looking for. Neither one of the other 2 has any date of birth for John Hobson. Again 2 of the sources but not the same 2, say he was born in Bertie County, NC. One states England and the other states Wilmington, New Hanover, NC. All 4 sources agree that he married an Elizabeth Parker, two with the date of 28 Mar 1787 and one has 28 Feb 1787. The other source does not give a date. Two sources state they were married in Gates Co., NC, one says Williamston, NC and one implies Wilmington, NC. Two give his father as William King (one of those gives Middle initials of I.G.), and his mother as Amelia Slade. One gives his father as Michael and mother as Mary Hobson. The last one gives his father as Mickle and his mother as just Mary. This one lists only one son, Benajah, who was exec. of his estate when this source says he died in 1828 in Dallas Co., Alabama. The other three sources do not give a death date or location. One source gives John Hobson only 2 children, Thomas Benjamin b. 1803 and Fannie Wiggins King. The two remaining sources give the same number and names of children, leading one to believe they came from the same original source (Oscar Benjamin King's book). The children were: James, Mary, John, Nancy, Amelia, Thomas Benjamin b. 1802, Alexander Augustus, Richard Rufus, Robert Remington, and Benejah. I am trying to connect my James King to the first child born, James. If you take the birth date and marriage date from the 2 sources that seem to have come from Oscar Benjamin King's book John Hobson was not quite 8 years old when he married Elizabeth that was 17 years old. Since my James was born in 1796 John Hobson would have been 17 years old. I am not willing to accept these facts (?) and I wonder where the truth lies. If anyone has any information on John Hobson King I would be extremely interested in seeing it. This is a new E-Mail address for me but I remain Janet King Bower Buznjan@worldnet.att.net
