Patrick KING and his wife Catherine (GROGAN) came to this country from Ireland in the late 1830's. They worked on a cattle barge down the St Lawrence river until they reached Canton, NY. While there in 1840, Michael KING was born. Eventually the family made their way to Port Washington, Wisconsin, where Patrick died from sickness one winter around 1850. Catherine took her children- Patrick Jr., Michael, Steven, Susan, James, John, and Alice- and moved to Lapeer Co., Michigan where she remarried several times. John died while a prisoner in the civil war, and Patrick Jr. and Michael also served in that war. If anyone has any info on this family, please contact me.
