Can anyone help me go find more information on this ancestor and his line? I'd like to find his father and mother and any previous ancestors, his brothers and sisters if any, location and anything else that would help me get an idea of who he was, what he did and where he came from. I'd also like to fill in some of the blanks on more recent generations. I am researching on a shoestring so any help you can provide would be most appreciated. My branch of these KINGs 'daughtered out' in my mom's generation. Would ultimately like to trace this line down to contemporary descendants to find out what happened to this line. Name: William KING Birth date: Abt. 1755 Place: unknown Married: Mary ('Polly') WOODSON dob unknown When/where married: unknown Children: Woodson ('Woody') KING, not known if there are others Migration states: unknown Other facts: I have some information on generations down to my line which appears below. Second generation: Woodson ('Woody') KING dob unknown m. Sarah CARTWRIGHT dob unknown Third generation: Edwin Davis ('Dock') KING dob unknown (first instance of the nickname "Dock" in this line) m. Ann Alston HUNTER b. 8 7 1792 Probable location: The King Family Plantation, Lower Peachtree, Monroe County, Alabama Fourth generation: William Douglas ('Dock' or 'Dock Wills') KING dob unknown m. Rebecca Singleton ('Becky') TAIT dob unknown Location: The King Family Plantation, Lower Peachtree, Monroe County, Alabama Fifth generation: William Dock ('Dock' or 'Dock Wills') KING, b. 3 26 1866 m. Frances Adams ('Fanny') HOMER, dob unknown Location: The King Family Plantation, Lower Peachtree, Monroe County, Alabama Sixth generation: Mary ('Polly') KING dob unknown may have married a CUNNINGHAM, if not then another sister did. Lucile ('Lucy') KING, b. 9 27 1890 m. James Leo DONAHUE (this is my line) brother whose first or middle name may have been 'Homer' and one or two more siblings Location: The King Family Plantation, Lower Peachtree, Monroe County, Alabama The King Family Plantation house was relocated from the original site (Lower Peachtree, AL) in the last 20 or 30 years. When the workers were preparing it for relocation, a Civil War era message was found written on the foundation. I do not know where it was relocated to. Many years back, I saw an article by a local historical society about the relocation of the house, which also spoke of the high regard "Dock Wills" had been held in by the local community. I have not been able to locate a copy of it. Also, I do not know whether "Dock Wills" was a physician or whether the nickname came from a waterway dock on the property used for shipping and receiving or some other source, and whether the name applied to the fourth generation William King or the fifth generation one, or both. I would like to find out why the nickname 'Dock' runs down this line and where this KING line came from before it settled at the plantation site. There are a number of family mysteries associated with this line that I would like to solve. First, there is supposed to be a link to Pocahontas by blood or marriage (surviving members of my mother's generation cannot agree on which), but that has yet to be documented. Second, there is supposed to be a link to Frank and Jesse JAMES. I have now found a link back thru Rebecca Singleton (TAIT) KING's line thru her mother's GOODE ancestors to a Sarah JAMES b. 1770, daughter of John JAMES b. 1715 and Sarah MOORE dob unknown. I will need to trace that line forward to see if a connection to Frank and Jesse indeed exists. I looked once before at the information that is online about the James Gang, but I could not see how my line instersected. With this new information I will go back and look agains. If anyone has information or suggestions that might make my job easier, I would appreciate their suggestions. Thirdly, my mother's mother made frequent reference to a resemblance between me and my sisters and a Virginia Lafayette BROWN, of whom she seemed quite fond. None of the surviving members of my mother's generation has any idea of who she might have been or why my grandmother would have spoken of her in that manner. I've recently discovered that Frances Adams ('Fanny') HOMER's mother's maiden name Eugenia Brown ADAMS and traces back to a John BROWN b. 1863 thru Marjory Kembelton (BROWN) ADAMS (dob unknown) and Samuel BROWN (dob unknown). It seems highly likely that Virginia Lafayette BROWN was a familiar relative of whom my grandmother had fond memories and for that reason, I would like to find out how she is related to my and what there is to know about her. If anyone happens to have information about this line that might speed me along in my search, I would appreciate their help. Please note that I am a complete amateur/hobbyist, my interest in genealogy research is purely personal, and I will not use any information shared with me to make any kind of profit. By the same token, if I have information that might help anyone, I am willing to share. Thanks very much for hearing me out at such length.
