A genealogy puzzle to present to you.......... Albert Mitchell Miller was my husband's paternal grandfather. I have been trying to find out who his parents, etc. are. Albert Mitchell Miller was born October 14, 1872 in Canton, Illinois. He told his oldest daughter that he thought that his mother died when he was born. He also said that his father died when he was three years old. He believed that his father was a Doctor from Scotland and his mother was an Irish Bondswoman. He said he was of Scots-Irish descent. He thought that his father's name was George and his mother's name was Alice. I have tried my best to find out information and have always come up empty-handed on this search. Birth records for 1872 in Fulton county are non-existant. The county seat, Lewistown, does not have birth records until 1875. I have read that there might have been a cholera epidemic in the Canton area during the time of Albert's mother's passing, but am not sure if this is true. I am guessing that his mother may have died as a result of childbirth complications, but this is also not verified. I have no idea why Albert was given to Wells and Mary J. ( King ) Hickman to be raised. I have never been able to find any information on either one of them either - except for their burials in the Bushnell Illinois Cemetery. Albert is buried next to them ( and his own wife is buried several rows away from him ). This has been a huge mystery for the family and puzzles the daylights out of me. I am desperately trying to find out who Albert's parents, grandparents, etc. were and where they came from. With a name like Miller - the possibilities are endless ! Thanks for any assistance on this matter. I have given you all that I have on this man. His own daughter said he never talked about his parents because he never knew them. He passed away September 13, 1955 and the mystery continues..... Carolyn
