Hi Jim: My ancestor that married in to the HOLLAND line was my great aunt, Ann E. Chapman; my grandmother KING's sister. She was born about 1857 (most likely in Bedford Co., TN) and died about 1935. I recall meeting her as a child while visiting with my grandmother KING in Huntsville, AL, around 1930; I was 10 years old at that time. My great aunt was married to Alonzo A. Holland in Bedford Co., TN on 5 Nov 1879. His widow Ann, apparently drew a pension based on her husband's military service during the civil war, perhaps in support of the Federal government. I have no other information on the Holland line, other than I remember hearing my KING aunts talk about their uncle Alonzo and his son Julius (?) who apparently neglected his mother. Here is what I recorded in my notes as the source of my data on Ann E. Chapman: MISC. NOTES: SHE WAS AN HEIR TO THE ESTATE OF HER FATHER JOHN CHAPMAN. SEE DEED TRANSFER MADE IN LINCOLN COUNTY TENNESSEE FROM HIS ESTATE TO W. H. YOUNG, DATED 15 DEC. 1901. DEED BOOK PAGE 313. SHE WAS APPARENTLY NAMED AFTER HER MOTHER. SHE LIVED MANY YEARS IN THE FAYETTEVILLE, TN. AREA. WAS MARRIED TO A. A. HOLLAND. -------- My grandmother KING was named Mary Alina (Lina) CHAPMAN prior to her marriage to my grandfather Thomas Shadrack KING on 24 Dec. 1878 in Bedford Co., TN. She was apparently born in Bedford Co., TN on 1 Jul. 1852. She died in Huntsville, AL on 17 Jan 1943. My grandmother KING's mother was named Ann E. ROBERTSON. She was born Abt. 1819 in VA? She died about 1887 in TN. Her father, John CHAPMAN was born 17 May 1823, most likely VA or WV. He died about 1900 in Lincoln Co. TN, where his estate was probated. Here are my notes on my grandmother KING: NOTES: AT THE TIME OF DEATH SHE HAD LIVED 90 YEARS, 6 MONTHS AND 17 DAYS. SHE WAS ONE OF THE HEIRS TO HER FATHER'S ESTATE. SEE LINCOLN COUNTY TN. DEED BOOK J-J, PAGE 313, WHERE SHE AND HUSBAND SIGNED WITH OTHER HEIRS TO TRANSFER LAND TO W. H. YOUNG ON 25 DEC. 1901. DURING THE CIVIL WAR, HER FAMILY LIVED NEAR WHERE THE BATTLE OF MURFREESBORO, TN. COULD BE HEARD; PER ORAL FAMILY HISTORY. THE SUBMITTER OF THIS DATA SPENT A YEAR OR SO IN HER HOME WHEN HE WAS AGE 9 AND 10 AND SHE TAUGHT HIM ALL OF THE DOMESTIC CHORES, INCLUDING THE SEWING OF QUILT TOPS! SHE WAS A VERY KIND AND LIKABLE PERSON. SHE SPOKE SOME LATIN AND WAS APPARENTLY WELL EDUCATED FOR HER TIME AND CIRCUMSTANCES. THE 1910 U.S. CENSUS FOR HER FAMILY INDICATES SHE GAVE BIRTH TO 10 CHILDREN OF WHICH 7 WERE STILL LIVING AS OF 26 APRIL 1910. SEE BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA, ROLL 19, SHEET 24, DIST.74. The 1920 U. S. Census for Madison Co. AL, Vol. 61, ED 150, Sheet 18, Line 4, shows the following information: King, Lina, w (white) (Widow), age 67, born TN, living on "C" Street in Merrimack Village (Now Huntsville, AL).
