    1. KING Family Photograph
    2. Shelley & Tomas Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" two old photographs, the first a photograph of Georgie KING of 443 3rd Avenue, Lansingburgh, New York. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Georgie looking to be in her teens or early 20's at the time it was taken. A second photograph is addressed "Merry Xmas to Georgie" from Minnie & Lou. This second photograph was taken in Racine, Wisconsin; likely sometime in the late 1890's or early 1900's with the two young women likely in their teens or 20's at the time. I'm hoping to be able to return the photographs to someone from the family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

I went to the library catalog, put in the Eckles surname and came up a list, then at the top you can click on the 'view notes' button, but there isn't anything to show where you can actually see pages of the books. jamie

    1. New On-Line Genealogy Books At LDS Family History Library
    2. From: "sanndy kelly" <SandyKelly@worldnet.att.net> Date: October 4, 2005 11:11:52 PM EDT To: VAFLOYD-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Good site A fellow in a genealogy class I take wrote the following and sent it to our classmates in a e-mail. I am sending it on to you folks because it is very useful and he wrote it well. Hope it helps some of you. Sandy The LDS Family History Library has announced that it has begun the process of digitizing and making available on the Internet all of the Family History books in their collection. These are primarily books in the "929.273 Series" that are currently housed on the first floor of the Family History Library (previously housed on the fourth floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building). At the present time (September 2005), about 5000 books have been digitized and are available, and they have announced that they are adding about 100 titles a week to the on-line collection. Copyright issues are playing a role in determining the order in which they progress through this task; books out of copyright are being done first. As these Family History books are digitized and placed on-line, an entry is being placed in the Family History Library on-line catalog with a hyperlink to the digitized image. By going to the FHL On-Line Catalog, you can search for a specific name, find a book that has been indexed using the name, and view it on-line, flipping through the pages as separate "pdf" images, much the same as if you were on the first floor of the Family History Library. Of course, the indexing that is available through the FHL Catalog is only as good as the human indexers made it; typically they only include the "top" 4 to 6 names that appear in each book in their indexing efforts. But there is even better news! The digitized images of these Family History books are actually being stored on the electronic servers at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. By going directly to the BYU web site to view the images, there are several additional possibilities that provide genealogists functionality that they have never had before. You are now able to do full-text searches on each book, and on every digitized book in the collection. Now you can locate the small two- paragraph entry on Grandpa Ebnezer McGarrah that is buried in one of the Family History books that you would have otherwise never thought to look at before. This can open up a huge new possibility for extending lines, getting past brick walls, and uncovering new relatives! How to Find The Digitized Images? Go to the web site of the Harold B. Lee Library at BYU at _http://lib.byu.edu_ (http://lib.byu.edu) and on their home page, follow the links "Find Other Materials/Electronic/On Line Collections at BYU". Click on the "Text Collections" tab and select the "Family History Archive" from the list of collections that are displayed. You would then normally want to use the "Search All" feature with the "Search Full Text" box checked, although the "Advanced Search" will allow very high-powered searches that will allow certain phrases to be searched for and other words to be used to exclude potential hits. As you make selections from the "hits" that are displayed, you will need to use the "Click Here to View Item" button near the top of the screen to display the actual image of the page. You can page through the entire document using the index displayed on the left side of the screen. Each page may be printed after being viewed. One interesting sidelight is, when you are at the first web page for the Family History Archive (the page that lets you begin a search), click on the "Browse the Collection" button. This will display every Family History book that has been digitized and is available in the collection. You can scroll through this list much the same as if you were walking up and down the stacks at the library. At the top of the first page of the search results, it displays the number of hits, which (in this case), is the number of books in the collection. If you keep track of this number, you can get a pretty good idea of how fast they are adding titles to the collection as you revisit the web site from time to time. I think you will want to visit this site often as the collection grows! -------------------------------------------END----------------

    3. George WADE KING (b. 1839 NC)(d.1923 MS) said he was born in NC, raised along the Great PeeDee River (Anson Co., NC ?) and went to Lauderdale Co., MS with the Hobgood family before 1862. He said he was married and had 2 children before the War but when he came home, they were gone. Dead? Deserted? I believe he was the George W. King who married Lurena Birks/Burks in Lawrence Co., AL in 1861. By 1862 he was in Lauderdale Co., MS where he joined the Confederate Army. His death certificate says his father was George KING, born in NC. George Wade KING remarried to Ann RAINEY MILLER in 1869 in Lauderdale Co., MS and their children were: Charley May KING, John L. 3. Hello Everyone, My name is Rebecca King, and I live in Ohio, but my family is from PA. My parent's were divorced when I was young, and my father and I are estranged. I am interested in learning more about his family. This is my line as I was told by my mother: Rebecca Ann King d/o Vivian Lynne Smith and Thomas Leroy King s/o Dorothy Booher and John Arthur King s/o Mary Anne Frantz and Clarence Pollock King s/o Margaret Pollock and William King I have very limited knowledge about my father's family, but I know that they lived in the Armstrong County area. Clarence King was born 08 AUG 1895. If anyone on this list is related to me, or has any info they would like to share with me, I would be very grateful. Thanks so much. Sincerely, Rebecca A. 2. Theresa: Hello. I live about 20 miles from Warren county and about 25 miles from St. Louis. My place of abode is Portage des Sioux in St. Charles County. I would suggest you come to the Katherine Linneman Library ( Also know as the St. Charles City County Library System) in St. Charles on Elm Street to check out their genealogy collection. The librarians are very helpful and tell them that I sent you. St. Charles County Historical Society has an extensive collection for St. Charles and most of the surrounding counties as well. Also, if you have time the genealogical collection at the St. Louis Library on Lindbergh is outstanding. . They have inherited 25,000 volumes of genealogical books recently and they are great. The librarians there are also very helpful. Also e-mail me privately at burma_wilkins@moed.uscourts.gov and maybe I can help you get around and pass along some information to you regarding places to stay, eat, etc. Sincerely, Burma L. Wilkins
