That is so funny!!!! If all the William's came, I guess I'd have to have a mighty big turkey, wouldn't I?? But I'm safe since only one William King is my great-granddaddy!! I think my William King was born in Georgia and I think it was around the year 1847. The only two things I know is that he was married to Virginia Geer and she was born August 15, 1856 (I don't even know where she was born). That's why I got a distant male cousin to participate in the King DNA project. So far we have no exact matches, but hopefully one day there will be a match and maybe we can then fill in all the blanks. Thanks for responding. Would invite ggrandfather, Wenzel/Vaclav Houdek and family. He was b 1835 in Masecin, Bohemia and came to USA 8/1864. Included on the trip were: wife,Marie/Mary (Miller), age 34, Ferdinand, age 6, Mathias, age 5, Filomena, age 3, my gfather, Richard, age 1 & Karl, 6mo. Would ask all the questions about ancestors, dob, places of birth, conditions leading to decision to leave, costs, how funded, expectations, why go to Iowa and as usual, answers lead to more questions. Am sure scores of turkeys would have to be sacrificed. Have no information on ggrandmother, Marie/Mary Miller and repeat all the questions on her family. Have an idea that skills both in Bohemian and German would be necessary. Have three different King/Koenig lines that have been invited in the past but there is still more I do not know than what I do. Interviewing past family members is a continuing fantasy that directs my search at times. Gotta go and start laying in provisions for this project. Bill Houdek
I'd invite my greatgrandaddy, William King, and ask him to tell me all he knew about our ancestors!!! Please send a post to this list telling us about your ancestor - and >please remember to include dates and locations. I would invite my gr gr grandparents William and Elenor KING. Eleanor Jane JARMAN was born, 1848 Canada. William was born in Black Horse Yard, Denver, England, in 1851 and then the family moved to Canada some time after 1854 when his next sibling was born. From there the family went to New York and then to Michigan. I would want to hear all about what life was like in England, why they chose to go to Canada, then New York and decide to settle in Michigan where they are now buried. They had 4 of their 6 children in England and then 2 in Canada, then moved to Michigan. I would ask about what the trip from England was like also. I would want to know about James and Mary GILSON/KING, Williams parents. I would very much like to know where in Ionia Michigan his parents and a brother George KING are buried. If they are buried on the land they owned or just where they are now. I would ask about what it was like growing up with his siblings. I would want to know what he knows about his grandparents or other history of course. I am sure William KING and his wife Elenor Jane JARMAN - KING would have many interesting things to tell. They may as well stay till Christmas! Cindy (o: --------------------------------- Yahoo! FareChase - Search multiple travel sites in one click.
Forgive me for cheating slightly - I'd invite Thomas King b. abt 1785 Pendleton Co., SC and ask about his wife and where his family originated.. I'd invite my grandfather, Alton Dewitt King (1904-1974) and ask about his first wife, Lilly Whitcomb... And finally, my father, Jerry Edd King (1934-1976) I would merely be happy to ask if he wants to read to his 9 year old grandson. Rene'
I would invite my gr gr grandfather, Lorenzo A. King, his wife, Mary (Huntington) and daughter, Susan, who became was my gr grandmother Rogers. He seemed to be in failing health and sold his property in N. Cannan to move his last few years to Bridgeport, Ct from N. Canaan. He was about 42-3 and I would ask him where he was born. In his inventory is listed a signet ring and I would ask him the story behind it. He would probably have to stay for Christmas dinner, too, answering questions! Alys Monod

Hello: I haven't posted for some time -- thought I would try again. I'm searching for the parents of my GGG grandfather: William KING. He was living in Claiborne County, Tennessee by 1830, and by 1850, the census report lists his birth in DELAWARE in 1779. We know he was born in 1779 from the date on his tombstone: July 10, 1779. He died September 27, 1865, and is buried in the Coleman Cemetery in Claiborne County. There are many KING lines in Delaware in the 1700s, but I can't get a link to any of them. I hope his children's names might give a clue -- Elias, Rosa Ozina, Elkanah (Elcana, Cana), Hiram, Margaret (Jennie), Elihu, David, Emily, Lucinda, John, and Amy. Notice the first-born son's name: ELIAS KING. There were several Elias Kings in New Castle, Delaware in the 1700s. Could one of these be my William's father or grandfather - naming his first-born son after one? Also, the names Elkanah and Elihu are unusual - maybe a clue to my line? Thanks for any help. Nancy :-) ********************************************************************* William KING We know he was living in Virginia - either Russell or Lee County - just before they became part of Scott County. Also, he may have been living in North Carolina around 1810-1814 - where two children were born. He moved his family to Claiborne County, TN sometime around 1830. William King born July 10, 1779 in Delaware died Sept 27, 1865 in Claiborne County, Tennessee My William King married Sarah (Hammer?) Garner in Carter County, TN on August 19, 1803. She was born August 24, 1781 - but we are not sure where - possibly Virginia or North Carolina. Sarah died March 30, 1862. We don't know who her parents were. Could they be the GARDNER line of Scott County, VA? There is a William KING family on the 1820 Scott County, VA census, with children's birth years that match the family. (There are also two other KING families living in Scott County in 1820 -- both John KING households. Could these be brothers of my William?) We have yet to find out exactly who she is. ...................................................................... William and Sarah Garner King are both buried in Coleman Cemetery, Claiborne County, Tennessee. We do know our Kings are said to have come to the New World (Virginia) in the early 1600's - possibly in the Second Virginia Charter or later -1620's to 1640's. We have always been told there were two King brothers who came to Virginia because they could not pay their debts in Scotland or England. They worked for 7 years to pay off their debts and married Indian women. One of my cousins always said there were 7 KING brothers from England who lived in present-day West Virginia (late 1700s - early 1800s) who later moved to Claiborne County (eastern Tennessee) sometime in the late 1700s or early 1800s? Hi Diana in Eagle, Idaho: I don't recall my line of KING's being related to your KING line, based on the names that you sent me. As you said, there are lots of KING's in the USA; I think it is about the 15th most common name in the USA. Let me suggest that you go to the Genealogical database operated by the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. They have more genealogical data in their database than at any other place in the USA and they don't charge users for quizzing their database. I think their Internet address is: _http://www.ancestorhunt.com/mormon_church_records.htm_ (http://www.ancestorhunt.com/mormon_church_records.htm) I am not a member of the Mormon Church; just a heavy user of their genealogical databases. Good luck. Tom King, Sr. Near Leesburg, VA.
