Looks like there is an Oak Grove Cemetery in Leroy, IL. That makes sense. I have no interest in this King but live in the Kansas City Area.
I think it might have been LeRoy IL. -----Original Message----- From: Kmzem@aol.com [mailto:Kmzem@aol.com] Sent: Tuesday, December 27, 2005 12:25 PM To: KING-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [KING] Arthur M. In the Fall 2005 issue of the Sons of the American Revolution (known by them as SAR) on page 13 - there is an article called "In Our Memory - President General Arthur M King". It says He was a member of the SAR for 42 years. It does not say where or when he was born, but mentions he would have been 103 years old on his next birthday. It also mentions he and his wife married in 1928 and that they were both born in IL. They moved to Weatherby Lake, MO near Kansas City. . His wife was Berdena and died in 1992 from Alzheimer's. They had moved into a Mennonite Home in 1989 because of her illness. The funeral was held at Oak Grove Cemetery at LeRoy. (doesn't say which state). I hope this will be of interest to some on the King List. I am not related, but sometimes these things are meaningful to someone else. Karen

Hi - I am looking for a magistra who can translate a document written in England about 1617. It pertains to the sentence of John Kyng or Kinge of Duxford, Cambridgeshire. I do not need to know every word; but I would like to understand the gist of it. The document is in a PDF and is quite legible, it is just that I do not know Latin well enough. Thanks, Don
Dear Listers On looking at my elusive ancestors names at my brick wall I have realised that these names are commmon in Scotland! Could we have Scottish Ancestry? Are the Rootsweb surnames lists the same for Scotland and England or do they have different ones? DEBORAH DUFF KING married JOHN BOGG in 1788 in Quebec City. John Bogg was apparently in the British Army at the time. Her father was JOHN KING and her mother was nee SARAH CAMERON. Deborah died in the Woolwich Cholera epidemic of 1832. JOHN BOGG's parents were father JOHN BOGG and mother SARAH CAMERON! Has anyone any advice or information on this? -- Best regards, Frances mailto:frances@mayleecat.com
Our Thanksgiving dinner would really be a feast for "Kings" if Silvanus King b abt 1775, and his wife Sally, and their son John King b 1799 in RI with his wife Lydia (or maybe its Sylvia) b 1807 would come. If John and Lydia would bring their daughter Carolyn E. King and her husband Joshua L. Easton along we would really have a great day. And maybe Silas King (b 1784) and his wife Silence Buck King (b 1795) would come. Maybe Silas could tell me how he is related to Silvanus or John. I am sure they could tell us great stories about their families and would keep us spell bound for days! Karen
Thank You Don, I would love to join you soon for Thanksgiving so we can meet and exchange idea's. I would also love you to meet the other Don , my brother. Should we do Florida or Conn. next year? We're still recovering from Wilma this year. Your cousin, Catherine King
Dear lISTERS This is my first posting. Does anyone out there have a DEBORAH DUFF KING in their tree? She was born 27th January 1772 though I don't know where. She married my g-g-g-grandfather JOHN BOGG in Quebec City in 1788. Though he was British in the British Army at the time we don't know what nationality she was. Her father was JOHN KING and her mother SARAH CAMERON. She died in the Cholera Epidemic at Woolwich in 1832. Can anyone help? -- Best regards, Frances mailto:frances@mayleecat.com
I am not researching this line, but just passing along a tidbit I found at the library today. Is it any wonder we have so much trouble finding ancestors when things like this confound us! This is from The Georgia Journal Newspaper, December 19, 1809: List of Acts, passed at the late session of the General Assembly: 11. An act to alter the name of BARTLETT KING to that of BARTLETT M'CREADY
I would invite my gfather Lert King b.1840-50 in N.C. married Midora Bryant in 1886 in Halifax Co. N.C. I would ask him where he came from and who his parents were. I would spend the day asking questions instead of eating. I can't find out about him any other way.He died in 1909 and was buried in Scotland Neck, N.C. accodrding to the info we have. I'd ask him where. I would invite my g-g-grandfather, John W King and honor him at the head of the table, with me sitting on his right. First, I would let him enjoy his dinner then the questions would begin. Where was he born? Some say NC, others KY, still others say IN sometime around 1800. Of course, I would like to know who his parents were. Then I would ask him what made him come with Peter's Colony to settle in Northeast Texas at Little Elm, in the early 1840's? Then I would tell him how proud we are of our g-g-grandmother Delilah (Cox) King for keeping the family together and staying in Texas after he died. Last of all I would like to take him back to Little Elm, which is in Denton County Texas and show him all the changes, since he first stopped his covered wagon there and decided to stay in about 1842-1843, when my great grandmother Elizabeth Jane King was about two years old. Oh, if only we could do this! Happy Thanksgiving Dreams! Marie
I would ask Thomas King and his wife Harriett to dinner. They are my 3rd G-grandparents and I am stuck on what her maiden name was, where they married, where they met, how they got from NC to TN where two children were born to MS by 1825. I'd ask about his parents (and hers). I'd ask him why he moved from where his family was to MS and who his siblings were. I'd want to know who they must have lived with in TN during the 1820 census since he may not be the head of the household. What a wonderful idea! I am not usually one to go along with the crowd, but in this case, I too would invite a William King. He is my gg-grandfather, and he was born 06 SEPT 1855 in either Armstrong or Clarion County Pennsylvania. He was married to Margaret A. Pollock. Mostly, I would love to hear about his parents and about his life. I would love for him to meet my family and to know that we still think about our departed ancestors.
