I seem to be looking for three separate King lines. My 2nd great-grandfather was George Koenig b abt 1809 in Baden, Germany. His will shows Koenig but all other documents show King. His children all show King. There seems to be no record of his changing. My wife's maternal grandfather was Charles Joshua King b 1860 in Farley, IA. His father, born in Canada was Roy, which I understand is French for King. They moved to Iowa sometime and sometime, changed the name. Am getting the impression they did whatever they chose and that was that. Our son-in-law's paternal great grandmother was Carolena Henrietta Koenig b ab 1897 in Germany. That is all anyone seems to know about her. Another issue driving me up the wall is the seeming fetish in our son-in-law's family for Frank & Michael. He is Frank Michael and goes by Mike. His son is Frank Matthew and goes by Matt. There are scads of Frank, Thomas, Michael and Matthew names scattered throughout the clan. Of course, my wife's paternal side did a bunch of changing. Her 2 greatgrandfather was Liems, his sons, Lehms until they got into a fight. Then one son changed it to Lames, not officially, of course. On the female side, no one can agree to Niemeyer or Niemeier and the names bounce around with children using what someone told them. 'tis a wonder those of us serious about this "stuff' are not alcoholics--tis about time for a drink. Bill Houdek,Houdeck, Houddk, Hudeck, Hoduck--pick one. Ballwin, MO bhoudek@swbell.net
and there surnames are: KING married HICKCOCK (spelled at least 3 different ways on the same document) ANDERSON married HAMPTON HUGHES married MILLER EARP married WATKINS, MCMILLIAN CANTRELL married HAYWOOD ADAIR married TAYLOR BRASELTON married GREEN ZACHARY married POLLARD SUTHERLAND married EARP to name a few!!! I did enjoy the spoof! Thanks, Linda

Spoof about problems one encounters doing genealogical research in the USA. Tom, ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------- Subject: Happy New Year! Cousins NEWS FLASH. 1852 NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS SOLVE GENEALOGICAL MYSTERIES. It is New Year's Eve 1852 and Henry HYDENWELL sits at his desk by candlelight. He dips his quill pen in ink and begins to writes his New Year's resolutions. 1. No man is truly well-educated unless he learns to spell his name at least three different ways within the same document. Hi, Sonya: Thanks for replying! I am sorry that it took me so long to respond, I sprained my right hand and typing has been rough. I appreciate the offer, but my Kings are originally from Pennsylvania. The Arthur King that your daughter went to school with is my cousin. Most of the family moved to Ocala in the '70's, but my parents divorced and my mother brought us back to Ohio. I just thought maybe you had some more info on them. Thanks again for replying, if I can ever help with anything in Northern Ohio, let me know. Hi Rebecca, The only reason I know about the Ocala Kings is because my daughter went to school with one when we moved from Indiana to Ocala in 1972. I think I still have an Ocala Phone book I could find some numbers for you. I moved to Cocoa in 1996. You can use my e-mail address if you like.SHerald@ webtv.net. My Kings are German, don't know about the rest. Sonya Herald
I'm looking for Charles KING, born abt. 1846 in London. Parents: William and Katherine (ALBIN) KING. He lived in Charleston, Brooklyn, St. Louis and Springfield, IL as a boy. Served in the Illinois 133rd Regiment, Infantry in 1864. Last known to be in Springfield (1870 census). Any information would be appreciated. Jerry
Hi Sonya, What information do you have on this Arthur King? My grandfather was John Arthur King, and he lived in Ocala until he passed in 2003. My father still lives there, along with his sister and his mother. Any info you have would be of great interest and very helpful to me. Thanks! -Rebecca King- -----Original Message----- >From: SONYA HERALD <SHERALD@webtv.net> >Sent: Dec 29, 2005 11:42 PM >To: KING-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [KING] Re: KING-D Digest V05 #142 > >There is an Arthur King in the Ocala, Fla. area. I don't have an interest either in posting it, but it is sort of fun and nice to be on the "hunt" anyway. -----Original Message----- From: Kmzem@aol.com [mailto:Kmzem@aol.com] Sent: Tuesday, December 27, 2005 9:15 PM To: KING-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [KING] Arthur M. This may be of no value, or a coincidence (Tales of King Arthur) or . . . . There was an Osborne King who migrated from Ohio Co, KY after 1840 and was in Pope Co or Saline CO, IL by 1847. This is interesting because Osborne had an ancestor named Arthur King (d. 1718 Westmoreland CO, VA). My line separates with Osborne's father- Smith King. Osborne had sons James Thomas, Osborne and Preston. Donald King On Dec 27, 2005, at 6:14 PM, Kmzem@aol.com wrote: > Looks like there is an Oak Grove Cemetery in Leroy, IL.
