    2. ernest hurst
    3. There were a ton of Kings in Sullivan County & later in Greene County, so I don't have absolute "proof" from William on back, but here's what I have, from a book done by a cousin, in the early 1980s. My great grandmother was Mary Elizabeth King, married to Granville Hurst, Rhea County, Tennessee, in 1873. She was born in 1846, Greene Conty, Tennesse, daughter of Allen Lewis King & Amanda Weesner. Allen was born in 1823, Sullivan County, Tennessee, son of William Isaac King & Martha "Patsy" Crouch. William was born in 1796, Sullivan County, Tennessee, son of Thomas King & Susan Ann Sharp. Thomas was born in 1754, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, son of Edward King & Elizabeth Nichols. Edward was born about 1720, Chester County, Pennsylvania, son of Thomas King & Jane Sharp. Thomas was born in about 1695 in Londonderry, Ireland. From William Isaac, on down to me, I'm about as close to 100% certain as you could get. Before that it gets kinds "iffy". Many things that werte written in "family history" books (including the one this came from) have been proven incorrect. I have not been to Greene or Sullivan County (but have spent some time in Rhea County) to research this line. 1. Re: King family line; Ebenezer B. KING. Reply
    2. Hi Ruth: Yes, I recall the Ebenezer KING name. I think he was one of the son's of my Ephraim KING, but I don't have any proof. Do you have any records that may connect my Ephraim King to Ebenezer B. King? For a short period of time, there were two adult Ephraim KING's living in Lincoln Co. TN during the early 1800's. I assume they were cousins. The one that left migrated north and east. A lady wrote a booklet about her research on that family line. I viewed a copy several years ago at the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City, UT. I think the booklet was titled: The Wondering KING's. Thanks for your response. I look forward to hearing from you again soon. Tom King, Sr. Near Leesburg, VA. In a message dated 3/27/2006 9:32:46 A.M. 1. My William KING line
    2. Nancy Clayton
    3. William King born July 10, 1779 in Delaware died Sept 27, 1865 in Claiborne County, Tennessee My William King married Sarah (Hammer?) GARNER in Carter County, TN on August 19, 1803. She was born August 24, 1781 - but we are not sure where - possibly Virginia or North Carolina. Sarah died March 30, 1862. We don't know who her parents were. Could they be the GARDNER line of Scott County, VA? There is a William KING family on the 1820 Scott County, VA census, with children's birth years that match the family. (There are also two other KING families living in Scott County in 1820 -- both John KING households. Could these be brothers of my William?) William and Sarah Garner King are both buried in Coleman Cemetery, Claiborne County, Tennessee. Our Kings may have come to the New World (Virginia) in the early 1600's - possibly in the Second Virginia Charter or later -1620's to 1640's. We have always been told there were two King brothers who came to Virginia because they could not pay their debts in Scotland or England. They worked for 7 years to pay off their debts and married Indian women. One of my cousins always said there were 7 KING brothers from England who lived in present-day West Virginia (late 1700s - early 1800s) who later moved to Claiborne County (eastern Tennessee) sometime in the late 1700s or early 1800s? Could they have come to Delaware first? Some researchers say my line could be from Edward and Elizabeth Nichols, with links to a Burwell King or a Kirby King. Just don't know. I have one IMPORTANT clue I just found about my GG Grandfather - the Reverend David A. KING (son of William KING b 1779) of Claiborne County. His first-born daughter was Elizabeth KING, born in Claiborne County. She married George Buchanan ESTES. 1. Re: [KING] ROLL CALL! Daniel Yeates, Kings: Richard, William, Hosea, Jamess Monroe, Solomon. NC, Tenn, Ala, Ark.
    2. Edward Moore
    3. Daniel Yeates was a colonel in the American Revolution. Daniel Yeates' daughter, Sarah Yeates, was born about 1770 and married Richard King in 1796, in Onslow County, North Carolina.. Richard was born about 1772. They were both natives of North Carolina. Richard and Sarah had eight children, five boys and three girls. Their son William was born about 1799 in North Carolina. Son Hosea was born about 1806 in North Carolina. One of their sons may have been named Solomon, though this is not proved. Sometime after 1806 the family moved to Tennessee, as their youngest child, James Monroe King, was born there in 1818. About 1836 Richard and Sarah moved again, this time to Alabama. Son James Monroe was still single and moved with them. Sons William and Hosea, who had their own families in Tennessee, also followed them to Alabama. Richard and Sarah King died in about 1842. Richard and Sarah King's son, William, had married a North Carolina girl named Margaret. Margaret was born about 1799. This couple's first son was Richard. It is not known when or where Richard was born. Their second child was Loomis, or Lumas, and he was born about 1823, probably in Tennessee although one source said Alabama. Additional children followed: Mariah, 1825 in Tennessee; Solomon, 1832 in Tennessee (possibly named after an uncle Solomon King); Ann, 1834 in Tennessee; Mary, 1835 in Tennessee; Margaret, 1836 in Alabama; and Emily, 1839 in Alabama. In 1843, the three King brothers, William, Hosea and James, and possibly a fourth brother, Solomon, left Alabama with their families for a new life in Arkansas. They traveled overland by ox-teams. While traveling through Mississippi, Hosea's wife Celia gave birth to son William. The brothers settled in north-central Arkansas, in the county of Marion, near the town of Yellville. All these Kings are presumed to have been farmers. To make a long story short, the Kings took sides in a political rivalry in Marion County, and in October 1848 were involved in a fight at a political rally. One King offspring, Jack, was killed and several men, named Everrett, from the opposing side were killed. After the fight, many of the participating families left Marion County. Some of the Everetts went to Texas. William, Hosea, James and Lumas King took their families south to Conway County, Arkansas. Young William King, also ended up in or near Conway County. In the summer of 1849 two Everetts returned from Texas and convinced the sheriff of Marion County to go to Conway County and arrest the Kings. It is not clear who was arrested, other than Lumas, but Lumas, his father William, Hosea, James, Young Bill and possibly Richard King were in the party on the return trip to Marion County. Shortly after entering Marion County, late of the afternoon of August 31, 1849, the sheriff left the Everetts in charge of the prisoners and went home. The Everetts then shot William (Old Billy), Loomis and Young Bill King. The other Kings were able to escape. When the census was taken in 1850, Hosea King's family was living in Benton Township, Conway County, as was Margaret King and her family. James King had settled in Prairie County, Arkansas, which later became Lonoke County, where James held several political offices. Solomon is not found in the 1850 census anywhere in Arkansas. The murders in Marion County created at least two fatherless families back in Conway County. One of these was William's, now headed by Margaret King, age 51 in 1850, and the other by Lumas' widow, Hanah King, age 27. Hamilton Moore and Minerva Ann King, daughter of William and Margaret King, were married September 21, 1851. The marriage is recorded in the Conway County, Arkansas Marriage Book 1, page 5. This was one of the very earliest marriages recorded in that county. Hamilton and Minerva Moore were my great-great-grandparents. 1. KING- Roll Call -VA, NC, SC and TN.
    2. Hi Folks: Oral family history tells me that my early KING family line migrated from VA to NC (near Wilmington, NC, then on to Lincolnton, NC, and during the early 1800's, to south central TN in LINCOLN, COUNTY. I have fairly well documented subsequent generations, but haven't been able to document their actions or locations prior to their move to TN. Any help you can offer on their earlier activities will be much appreciated. The oldest ancestor that I have been able to document was named Ephraim KING. He was most likely born in NC around 1785. Later, around 1804, he was apparently married a lady named Jane HARKINS in SC; but I haven't found any documentation to support that action. Ephraim and Jane's first child, that I have a record on, was named James G. KING. He who was born in 1808, perhaps in NC; he married Nancy SORRELS about 1833. Ephraim and Jane's second child by my records, was Andrew Jackson KING (who was my great-grandfather). He was born in 1813 in NC (based on census data). In 1839 he married a lady named Isabella Emmaline (Eliza) MITCHELL. Other children of Ephraim and Jane (Harkins) KING were apparently born in Lincoln Co. TN. Their names and their spouses are shown below: Martha G. KING who married Jessie NORMAN. Shadrack C. KING who married Mary D. Mc ADAMS. Susan C. KING who married John HOLLY. Eleanor M. (Nellie) KING who married William SORRELLS, Sr. Ephraim C. KING, (Civil. War Vet.) who married Sarah Jane BAGLEY. Washington A. KING who married Theodocia E. (Dosia BURROW. Over the years I have also collected data on the decedents of all of Ephraim and Jane's known children and I will share this information with related persons. Bye for now. Tom King, Sr. Near Leesburg, VA

    3. Searching for connections to my KING family..... James Wiley King b1854 Buncombe or Cherokee Co. NC. He is listed in the 1860 census of Cherokee Co. NC. James Wiley King was the only child of Robert KING and Mary Malissa PRINCE KING HUFF. Little is known about his father, except that he perished during the Civil War due to illness. James Wiley King lived most of his life in Whitfield Co. GA and is found in the 1880 census of that county. I have not located him in the 1870 census but believe he was likely in the same area. He migrated to OK after 1880 to take part in the Land Run. James Wiley King was enumerated in the 1890 First Territorial Census of OK--Cleveland Co. Also living in his household were his mother and his bride, Mollie (Louisa Ella WILLIAMS) King b1874 Bell Co. KY, and his mother, Mary M.(PRINCE KING) HUFF b1835 Polk Co. TN. James Wiley King had a large family and remained in OK until his death in 1918. Little is known about his wife. Grateful for any help..... Rita Tanner
