I have some King/Steele information strangely obtained from my local paper in Akron Ohio. It starts with: Judge Leicecster King who was a major landowner who had been friends with Akron founder Simon Perkins and was instrumental in bringing the Pennsylvania & Ohio Canal to Akron. His son David Leicester King b. 1826 m. Bettie Steele in Charleston WV in 1849 (Virginia then) They had 5 children. I have their names and notes on David and Bettie. Bettie comes from Robert Steele and Ellen Lewis. No further information on them. Ellen was the daughter of Howell Lewis whose parents were Fielding Lewis and Betty Washington (George's sister) and my 1st cousin like 8 times removed. I am searching for information of who Edward Kings Parents were and who his children were. Edward was born about 1760. Could be VA. or NC. He married Sarah Browning the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Bywaters Browning. The Brownings were from Culpeper Co. VA. They then moved to Caswell Co. NC. Edward was in the Revolutionary War and when he was released from the army it stated he went back to his home in Caswell Co. NC. Edward and Sarah had two known children Isaiah and Mary. There were other unknown children. Edward and Sarah lived in Caswell Co. until about 1800. They then moved to Robertson Co. TN. They lived there until about 1810 and moved to Bedford Co. TN. The Kings always lived near the Browning and McIntosh familes who were from Culpeper Co. Va. then Caswell Co. NC. Then to Robertson Co. TN. and on to Bedford Co TN. Edward applied for an Army pension in 1820 in Bedford Co. TN. At that time his family included his wife Sarah and a granddaughter Harriet McIntosh about four years old. Edward died in Bedford Co. about 1833. Any help on the name of his parents and any of his children would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Charlie Lampley

Hi Joy: Yes, I have some birth and marriage date information on some of Ephraim KING's children and grandchildren, especially those in my direct line of descent; but very little or none on those not in my direct line of descent. As regards "your query about old Nicholas Holly (prob. before 1870-1830; from Spartanburg, NC) who arrived in LCT about 1809?" I have no information on him. Dr. Andrew King was the son of Rev. Andrew King of Wallkill, NY and grandson of Richard King of Dublin, NJ and NC. Andrew married first Eliza Morrison and had two children: Ruth Snowden and William Lott King After Eliza died, he married the Mary Jones Hornbeck, daughter of Dr. Henry Isaac Hornbeck and Phoebe Jones of Montgomery, Orange NY. They had seven children, four surviving. Leaving his wife with her four children and two step children, he took off with perhaps a serving girl, Catherine ?Horn and fled south. While on his way to TN, he stopped in PA where he had another child, Julia. We do not know whether he was ever divorced as those particular records were destroyed in a water leak in the county building. Catherine committed suicide in 1864 and Andrew died in 1867. The puzzle is that there is yet another wife named in his will, Ellen and another child, Joan (Jone). I am searching for records of these marriages (if they really did occur) and what happened to both Julia Ann King and Joan. The last I know of Julia (I think it was her that was mentioned in the 1870 KY census is that she was a nursemaid in a house and one Ellen King was living in the same district with another man.) All of this for the son of a Presbyterian minister! Any information on the whereabouts of Julia and Joan is of great interest to me. Sue

Hi, My gr. gr. gr. gr. grandfather, David W. Sheldon had a 2nd wife named Mary S. King that he married on 20 DEC 1875 in Lowell, Seneca Co., Ohio. They had one son, Isaac Truman SHELDON born 19 SEPT 1876.(Nearest relative of Isaac in 1918 was Charlie King of Lake Odessa, MI.) David W. was age 71 when they married. Mary's next husband was Henry GRIFFIN on 13 JULY 1878 in Sandusky Co., Ohio. She was married several times and last husband was a Mr. Harrington in Ionia co., MI. Her parents were Archibald and Elizabeth (Kocher/Kocker/Kicher)King who lived in Lowell, Adams Twp., Seneca Co., Ohio about 1860-1870. Archibald died between 1860 and 1870 because he is not in the census with Elizabeth and her children, William, Mary, Sarah and Eva. Elizabeth had a brother named John Kocher who was living with the family in 1860. I have more info on their daugher Mary who had a son Truman Sheldon and then 2nd marriage to Henry Griffin in Sandusky Co., Ohio. there was also a daughter named Belle Griffin. Anyone related to a KING family in Seneca Co., OH or Lake Odessa, MI? OBITUARY OF Elizabeth (KOCHER) KING Green Springs Echo (near Fremont, OH) 7/6/1905 Elizabeth Kicher (Kocher) KING was born May 19, 1825 in Dophin (Dauphin?) Co., Pa. While in her youth she, with her parents, came to Crawford county, O., where, having grown to womanhood, she was married to Archibald King. This union was blessed with five children, two of who are living. From Crawford county Mr. and Mrs. King removed to Republic (Ohio) and later to Lowell. For the past 13 years she made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Magruder, residing two and one half miles southwest of this village until October 1901, when they removed to their present home in Greenspring, O., where Mrs. King passed away June 30, 1905, aged 80 years 1 month and 11 days. For the last three years she was an invalid and suffered quite considerably, but her sufferings were born in much patience until the end came. She leaves to morn their loss in her departure, two daughters, Mrs. Eva Magruder, of this place, and Mrs. Mary Harrington, of Lake Odessa, Mich., one brother, five grandchildren, and a large circle of friends. The funeral conducted by Rev. L. L. Orth was held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Magruder Sunday at 1:30 p. m. Interment was made in the Lowell cemetery. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam?
