am looking for the family of Lovina King who married a Palmer in Washington DC. The family was living in Washington DC 1920. This is all I know. She is buried in DC and we have not been able to find any records of the family after the grandfather died. His name was Leroy King Palmer who may have been adopted by the Palmer. We have know records of any of the history. Can some one please share with me the 1920 Census. Thank you for your time. Rose
Hi Betty: Sorry it has taken me awhile to check out my data on James G. King. I have been working on tax matters which are rather complex this year due to the death of my wife last July. As a long term genealogical researcher, you are no doubt aware that siblings often named their children after their own brothers and sisters and earlier generations of their direct line ancestors. It this case, it looks suspiciously like our two KING lines may be related. For example, my James G. King, was apparently born 28 Dec. 1808 in NC shortly before his father and family migrated to Lincoln Co., TN. He died on 3 July 1846; most likely in Lincoln County, TN (LCT). This data was collected and published by my father's cousin named Mary Scott of Fayetteville, LCT. His birth in NC is based on an entry in the US Census for 1850 by his son Andrew Jackson KING. His father's (Ephraim KING) will named him as an executor of his estate. However his father's estate was actually probated by someone else, apparently a friend or the attorney that wrote his will. John's failure to execute his father's will may be an indication that he had moved elsewhere; however, I doubt so, since he died in July 1849 in LCT. His estate in LCT was processed by his brother in law, William Sorrels. My James G. KING married a lady named Nancy Sorrels. She was born in 1805 and died in 1852, about four years after her husband, in LCT. They had the flowing named King children: Mary Jane, Althea Eliz. (Letha), Ephraim C., Martha A. and Susan Marinda. I noted a couple of more names in you message that makes me think our KING lines may be related. First, your Robinson name reminded me that my grandmother KING was named Mary Alina (Lina) Chapman; however, her mother's family name was Robinson. She was from the adjacent county in TN named Bedford, just a few miles from Lincoln Co. TN where my KING ancestors settled around 1819. The other one was the name of the lady that married your William KING born 1812 in SC who was married to Peremelia Marin born in 1810. My great-grandfather Andrew Jackson KING named one of his daughters Permelia Ann (Melie) KING, she was born 13 Dec. 1843. Andrew also named his youngest son William KING. Your thoughts on these speculations will be much appreciated. Tom King, Sr. Near Leesburg, VA ------------------------------------------------ Mr. King, I was contacted by Gale Judkins in regard to your inquiry about the King family line. I live in Corinth, Ms about 3 miles from the McNairy County, TN line. My name is Betty King Robertson and I have done research for about 25 years. The King line has always caused me problems because of the numbers of Kings in this area. I have a James G. King in my line but very little info on him and that is where I am stuck!!. My James G was born @1790 in N.C.and married to Sarah (?) after 1810 in S.C.. He died @1871 in Hardeman Co TN. I have 12 children listed. I believe my decent to be from his son William King born 1812 S.C. married Permelia Martin 1830 in Madison TN and died in 1865 Hardeman co, TN. If you are interested in any info about these children I have some I will be glad to share . I have no idea if this is the same line but you may be able to make the connection if you have more info on your end. Let me hear from you to make sure you received this email. Thank you Betty

For those of you on this list who have hit brick walls, and may want to pursue your KING family line thru DNA testing, a little information. For Y-DNA tests, participant must be a MALE family member w/the last name of KING. I am Group Administrator for the KING Y-DNA Surname Project. All Group Admin's are Volunteers, (i.e. do not work for FTDNA). I just think this company has wonderful service, and personnel that have been personally helpful to me in my KING family research. FTDNA recently reduced prices for testing if you are part of the KING Surname Project study. Y-DNA-12 marker is$99; Y-DNA-25 markers is$159; Y-DNA-37 markers is$189; Y-DNA-59 markers is$269. I think FTDNA is the best of the diff. companies testing DNA. They have 2950 Surname projects and 59,159 Y-DNA records in the database. The KING DNA Project has 72 participants at present w/11 matches of groups of fr 2-5 people. It is the most accurate way to determine if you are related to another KING fam. For my family, we found that we were chasing the wrong tree branch. Thought we were related to the STONEKING fam. of PA. The Y-DNA test proved that incorrect, and saved me years of researching the wrong branch. Many of the KING fam's tested have researched their line back to the 1700's, which can save many years of searching if you find a match. Check out the KING DNA Project website: http://www.familytreedna.com/(svuzx455ofdpfk45a2kp5nvs)/public/KING_FamilyTr ee_YDNA_Project or http://www.familytreedna.com/public/KING%5FFamilyTree%5FYDNA%5FProject/ If you want to join our KING Y-DNA Project, go to the following website, you can contact me, or one of the Co-Group Admin.'s below. We will send you a join request. It takes abt 8 wks to get results, so once you get test kit, do the oral swab, and send back as soon as possible. The Y-DNA test is simple -- just a cheek swab, (no blood test is needed), fill out the forms accompanying the test and return to FTDNA.. They have just begun offering a 59-marker test to more accurately determine time to MCRA (Most Common Recent Ancestor). I intend to upgrade my KING's to 59 markers. We ask each participant to give us a Family History Sheet (like you send on Roll Call) to compare w/the research of other KING family lines. No living family members are included. Your Family History is posted on The KING Y-DNA Project website. DNA test results (markers) are at the bottom of the webpage listed by Kit number and eldest ancestor' name . If you would like more information on the company doing the DNA testing follow this URL: http://www.familytreedna.com/faq.html Hope this answers questions some of you have on DNA testing. We look forward to having you join our Project. I found this on a Jefferson County, Mississippi page. Maybe it will help some on the Thomas King line. Let us know if it does. This information does not pertain to my line of David King who said he was born in 1754 in Scotland and came to this country right before the Revolutionary War. At least, it doesn't as far as I can tell. My David was in South Carolina during the Rev. War until his capture and parole and after that serving in North Carolina. I don't have a record of his marriage but he lived first in S.C. and then in Washington County, GA. for fourteen years before location to the Franklin/Jefferson County are of Mississippi in 1808. If anyone recognizes him, let me know. Now, to the "found info". This information seems to be a synopsis of what is in the will. It recounts mostly names.
