I am seeking information on my KING ancestors of Erie Co., PA. My ggGrandmother's name was Eliza C.(?) KING, born c1827 in PA. She is believed to be the daughter of Robert T. KING of Wayne Township, Erie Co., PA. Robert was born c1790 in RI, and died c1857 in PA. I would like to find birth records for Eliza and a record of her marriage to Daniel KEECH/KEACH in Erie CO c1846, birth records of her 7 children who were all born in PA, death and probate records for Robert, and somehow the name of Robert's wife, etc. Anyone out there connected to these people, or have any suggestions for me? It's difficult to find vital statistics records in PA since they didn't start keeping them until the late 1800's, so I'd appreciate any help I can get. Thank you, Julie Keech Wychor jlwychor@aol.com
There is a remote Quaker connection with one line of Kings, but it isn't the Quaker religion. Three sons of Gen. John Bertley King who lived in Ravenna, Portage, Ohio in the 1860s were among 6 men who founded the Quaker Oats Company. The name, Quaker Oats," was picked in 1873 and named for the impressive Quaker blacksmiths of so deftly created the machinery to slice the oats so thinly. My great-grandfather was John Bertley King Jr., one of the three brothers. Unfortunately, they sold the company in 1876 at a time when it had about 40 employees. Two owners later in the 1890s the company begin to grow rapidly and by the turn of the century the name was a household word.

Hi: Please eliminate the red background on the KING BB messages. They are very most difficult to read. This problem is not due to a setting on my computer. I suspect it is due to a setting on the computer of the person who consolidates and sends the messages and uses AOL; since most e-mail programs other than AOL will not transmit messages in color. I recently received a copy of the will of one James King, filed August 1827 in Hamilton County, Ohio. This James King *may* be my fourth-great grandfather. The information I have about him, received from another researcher, is that he was born in Ireland, married a Mary Smith, and had at least one child, James M. King, born in 1809 in Butler County, Ohio, and married in 1830 in Glendale, Hamilton County, Ohio. I requested this will from the University of Cincinnati Library and thought I would share it on this list. It is very hard to read. I still don't know if this is my James King, but hopefully other researchers will recognize some of the other names: I, JAMES KING, being weak in body though sound in memory and mind and knowing the uncertainty of life, do think proper to make this my last will and testament in the manner following, to wit: First, I will and bequeath all my household and kitchen furniture with the stock and grane (sic) to my wife, ANN KING, during her natural life and at her decease I direct the residue to be equally divided between my sons JAMES and JESSY KING and further I direct my Executors to pay to each of my children that are now living the sum of one hundred ______ and the same sum to be divided equally amongst the heirs of the deceased ANN TORCH(?), RUTHY GRAY, ELIZABETH DAVI(S)?, SARAH WOOD, THOMAS D. KING, MARY DAILEY, DELILA FLORENCE, CATHERIN WOOD, and SUSAN MANLY(?) and further direct that the money laing (sic) in the hands of MATTHEW DAVIS be equally divided between my sons JAMES and JESSY KING and further I direct that JAMES and JESSY KING be my whole and sole Executors. Signed and sealed this eighteenth day of September one thousand eight hundred and twenty-two. Witnesses: JON WOOD JAMES X KING JAMES RUSSELL His mark JONATHAN ____ LYON Anyone recognize any of these people? Rochelle
