    1. [KING-L] Wake County NC Kings
    2. I have noticed that a number of people are researching the King line in Wake County North Carolina. I have not researched this county but have found a deed in Bertie County North Carolina that connects to Wake County. I am copying the deed in case it is not known to other searchers- Bertie County North Carolina Deed Book CC, p. 35, Feb. 7, 1829 HENRY KING of State of North Carolina and County of Wake, WILLIAM KING of Wake County, MARY KING of Wake County, ELIZABETH KING of Chatham County and CHARLES KING of Guilford County by virtue of a power of attorney made by the four last named persons and above named HENRY KING in his own right of one part and John Freeman of Bertie County - witness that the said HENRY KING has sold a certain tract of land in Bertie County agreeable to plats No. 13 and 27, HENRY KING's part, half brother of WILLIAM KING, deceased , No. 13 on Rocquist Swamp adjoining Benton King and No. 27 adjoining John Thompson, No. 13 of 42 acres and No. 27 of 58 acres. Witnesses George Askew and Henry R. Bond. By way of explanation, the land being described is land belong to WILLIE KING , minor son of CHARLES KING, Senior. WILLIE KING die unmarried and still aminor. The land was divided among his brothers and sisters. CHARLES KING, Sr. was the son of CHARLES KING, the grandson of WILLIAM KING and ggrandson of MICHAEL KING who first patented land in Nansemond County in 1667. I hope this information will be of use to researchers. Henry L. King

    3. Just wanted to post an apology to Peggy Rudd McAndrew publicly about this. I did not mean for my previous post to sound like it did. I had meant to say that I was glad to hear about researchers on this line in addition to Peggy and myself, but it came out wrong. I am apologizing publicly about this because I believe so strongly that we need to help each other with tracing our families, because, when you get right down to it, that is what it is all about--learning from and about each other. I want to mend any bridges I may have inadvertantly broken. I did drop the ball on this one, and I am sorry. Peggy got in touch with my husband about this family line a few months ago. They have this King family in common. She sent us some wonderful information, the product of much hard work on her part, and some beautiful copies of pictures of the family. In exchange, I promised her copies of the information I had been collecting (VR, obits, copies of pictures from our line). I have not yet mailed this information to her, and I wanted to apologize for this. I have been careful about giving Peggy credit in my posts when I am listing information I did not get on my own. I hope I didn't come off like a jerk, although I sure am feeling like one. Everyone can be sure I will have my keister in the Post Office on Friday! (with my paycheck hot off the press) Thank you everyone for the sharing and support we give each other! -Tamara <posted by Tamara> <<Good to finally hear from others researching Kings in Wake County! Perhaps they have the following information already, but just in case it may be new, I'll post it. I came across it in material about Seneca, Nemaha Co. Kansas: SAMUEL KING, blacksmith, is a native of Tioga County, Pa., born in 1836. He learned his trade in Wellsboro, Pa., and worked in Newark Valley, N. J., until 1870, when he came to Seneca: built his large stone shop and began pounding out the competence since secured. He married in Newark Valley N Y., Miss Maria L. Root, and they have one daughter - Mary L. Mr. King is a member of the Masonic Lodge and chapter, and Seneca Lodge and Hiawatha Commandery I. O. O. F. During the Civil War Mr. King lost three of the four brothers, who enlisted under the 'old flag;' he himself being rejected from the enlistment rolls by the examining surgeon, though in 1864-'65 he served in the U. S. Overland Service as a blacksmith.

    2. I have tried to get something going with Joshua King in Athens Co., but no connections - I hear only a deafening silence. I am reasonably certain now that Laurence King in the 1830 Athens Co. census is the father of Robert H., James and Joshua. They are all born in Va. - the right age to be the same sons as Laurence in Wood Co., Va. in 1820. All state they were born in Va. Also, Laurence lived next door to Luallen (Lewellyn) - his youngest son, Joshua married Susan L. in 1836. I thought I might try to stir up something with the descendants of JAMES KING b. 1807-8 in Va., m. first Jane (1840 c. with Wm., Mary, Chas., Maria (possibly Mary Catherine - next census she seems to be Catherine.), Louisa, Amanda, Julia A. In 1850 James is married to Theresa with the four last girls plus a Phoebe, James M. and George W. Are there any JAMES KING descendants out there in ether-net? For me, there are Holdrens, Robinetts and Lewellyns in Joshua's line. I have talked to a number of Holdrens & Robinetts. JAMES - JOSHUA - LAURENCE KING - where are you? thanks - Pat Snyder

    3. Although my Kings were in WI and probably back to NY in the 1800's I'm researching my Sullivan line in NC. I'm working particularly in the New Hanover/Duplin/Sampson Counties area from pre1700 to 1900. Many maiden names of the woman the Sullivans married are missing. I'm wondering if any King researchers have come across King men marrying Sullivan women? Sullivan was spelled many different ways so any spelling would be helpful. Also any connection to Outlaw, Ford, Dickson or Raspberry might prove helpful as would connection in any other NC county or in VA, SC, or AL. 1. [KING-L] The Wandering King's
    2. Hi Ralph: I just recalled that during research on my KING line in Lincoln Co. TN that there were two men named Andrew KING in that County for a period of time during the early 1800's. Also that one of the Andrews later migrated north. I found a book or booklet at the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City, UT about that family line. The title of the book/booklet was "The Wondering (or Wandering) KING's". It describes in some detail how that line of KING's migrated from NC to TN and to several points north. As I recall, it also lists a lot of his descendants. The name of the author was Ms. Jeanne Austin King Galau. At one time she lived in Oshkosh, WI 54904, but my letter to that address in 1993 was returned by the postoffice. I think her book/booklet has been microfilmed and a copy should be available for viewing at the nearest LDS Family History Center. Hope this information can help you fill more blank spaces in your KING line. Tom King, Sr. San Diego, CA. 619-451-3833 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----- Your message: Hi Tom, I think the Baxter King you refer to was brother of my g--grandfather Andrew King who was given a land grant in Lincoln Co TN following the war of 1812. Andrew moved on to IL abt 1830. I know very little about Baxter except he married Lilah Davis in Orange Co NC then moved to TN with Andrew. I would like to know more. The name Ephriam is not in my database of 2000 Kings, but I have lots of holes that need filling in. If I can help in your search let me know. Ralph King og Fremont CA Ralphking@MSN.com
