Subject: [DAVIS-L] Fw: Land Patent Certificates Resent-Date: Wed, 28 Oct 1998 18:39:30 -0800 (PST) Resent-From: DAVIS-L@rootsweb.com Date: Wed, 28 Oct 1998 20:41:03 -0600 From: daveterry@mindspring.com To: DAVIS-L@rootsweb.com Many of my ancestors came from Alabama to Texas. I have recently found a web site that may provide some very interesting documents and information for some of you. Our government has provided us with a truly useful web site, http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/. For some eastern states, you can search the land patent records and print or save a copy of a scanned copy of the original land patent document. I have found certificates for 13 parcels of land originally owned by my direct ancestors in AL. These certificates are signed by a secretary for Andrew Jackson, Martin Van Buren, John Quincy Adams, Chester A. Arthur, Millard Fillmore, and James K. Polk, complete with all the "Whereas"es and "Now Know Ye"s of official certificates. These were not typed or printed on a computer but are the real thing. You can also get certified copies of these certificates. 3. Does anyone know my King family.Jacob, Becky and son Philip came from Germany in Philip's 10 th year, 1832-33. Do not know were they live. Philip married Eliza in 1851 in Wells Co., Ind. Eliza first married Peter Baker in 1844 in Richland Co., Ohio and had one son Henry. They has 4 children, Rebecca, Martin ,(my ggrandfather),Matilda and Valentine. By 1877 the children were all married except Valentine and they all moved to Kansas. Martin married Samantha Kreigh (a cousin) in 1875 and had the following children- Perry 1877 born in Indiana Ada 1879 born LaMar ,Kansas. Leslie ' ' '' Goldie ' ' ' Charles ' ' ' Jacob (Jake) ' ' ' my grandfather. They returned to Michigan in 1894. Mostly due to crop damage by cyclones. They came by covered wagon. And the wagon bows are in a Museum in Bristol, Indiana. This King family lived their remaining lives in the Indiana, Michigan Area. Their name could have been Koenig when they arrived from Germany (maybe the Asace area.) Help! There is no one in my family left to answer any questions. Thanks, Sonya

Mrs. Callie Cook, who until a few weeks ago resided in this county, lives on a farm near Henshaw. Late Monday evening the horses were being taken to the wel to be watered. Press King, a brother of Mrs. Cook, and her little son Everett were with the horses. Mr. King, in a playful manner, placed the boy on a horse. The animal became frightened and ran. As there were no bridle and salled on the horse, the little rider could not keep his seat and fell to the ground striking his head on a gate post. He sustained fatal injuries. Throughout the night he suffered terribly and at 8 o'clock Tuesday morning death relieved his agony. The remains were brought to Repton. Mrs Cook's old home, yesterday for burial. 1. [KING-L] RE: KING families in Jones Co,GA in 1800s
    2. Christine Reynolds
    3. I am researching my King family in Jones County, GA in the 1800s. Eula Belle King (b. 1877 Jones Co,GA) was the daughter of John T. King (b. 1853 GA) and Mary Ann Spear/Speer (b. 1853 GA). John T. King had a brother, Charles M. King (age 23) living with him on the 1880 Jones co census. I believe that John T. and Charles M. are the sons of William King. I have found both John and Charles listed on the 1870 Jones Co, GA census, but they are living with John (middle initial could be B, V, or W) King (b. 1832 GA) and Sarah J. King (b. 1837 GA). Other children of John and Sarah were on the census, too (1870): Nancy (b. 1854?); Morning, (b. 1855); James, (b. 1861); Henry, (b. 1864); Stephen, (b. 1866); and Sarah (b. Feb 1870). I think that this John (B,V, or W) King may be the brother of my William King, and that they both may be the sons of Morning King (listed as age 50 in the 1850 census along with a William and an Elizabeth). If anyone connects to any of these people, please e-mail me. I am trying to figure out this mess. Thanks in advance. Christine Reynolds creyn@cyberstreet.com

    1. [KING-L] Northern Kings
    2. Bob King
    3. Let me jump into the midst of this. My King line comes from MARSHALL KING, born in Canada about 1830. He came to the US late in the 1840s, working as a woodsman. He wandered south, ending up in Massachusetts. He and my ggrandmother, Lucy Ayers, married (although I have no record of this) in Becket, Mass. Their children started popping out in 1855 with Peter. They lived in Becket, Washington and Hancock, Mass, having children all over the place. Even when they forayed into Goffstown, New Hampshire where their daughter, Amanda, was born. Marshall died in Hancock, Mass in 1875 where he is buried. Lucy died at her daughter's place in Ware, Masss and is buried next to her son, Peter, in Easthampton, Mass. She was born in Northern Vermont 11 Feb. 1839 and she died in 1944 at 105 years old. Any help here and I would appreciate it.. Thanks. Bob King In the Pacific Northwest
