    1. [KING-L] ELZA KING
    2. SHERRY MAZZETTI
    3. PAT, I may still be missing something. I take it that the men you list were all brothers. Did you list their parents in some post? In any case, here is some info on Sarah and her family. Sarah is dau of Richard King and prob Mary Daley. According to a late census entry for Sarah, Richard was b. VA. His father was the John King b. Loudoun Co VA who served REV WAR Bedford Co PA and went to Mason, then Bracken Co KY that I wrote of earlier. Sarah, dau of Richard and granddaughter of John was the mother of an Elza and aunt of another. Hope this sorts it out a bit, as I am not sure that I can explain the Elza King/Elza McDaniel coincidences. Sarah King was born, probably Bracken Co, possibly Nicholas Co KY in 1804. She married James William McDaniel in Bracken in 1822 and appears to have moved to Decatur Co IN about 1835. Elza McDaniel was probably born there about 1837. I need to date this a with a bit more certainty. There are Kings in Decatur Co, some of whom were probably relatives. Within a few years, the family moved to Shelby Co IN where the two eldest children John and Sarah married Ohioans. Sarah married William Kinney whose family was from Knox Co OH in 1849. John married Elizabeth Ulrey whose family was from Warren Co OH in 1852. There MAY have been some related Sellers and Kings in Warren--but only circumstantial evidence to date. Some of the family went to Shelby Co IL in 1854; however, John and Elizabeth returned to IN about 1855/56 and lived in Marion Co, near Indianapolis. There is some evidence from an in-law family estate that there were Kings, related somehow, who also lived in Marion Co shortly after the Civil War; however, soon after the war, the orphaned children McDaniel returned to Shelby Co IL to stay. Sarah King had a "cousin," William King (somewhat uncertain who their common ancestor was) who lived in a couple of IN counties, including Hendricks Co, as I recall. He had a son born in 1843 whom he named Elza. It appears that sometime during the war (have to check my records), this family also moved to Shelby Co IL. He joined a regiment which including a McDaniel son, Charles Wesley, and the son-in-law, William Kinney. Elza McDaniel joined a different Illinois regiment. On the McDaniel side, I know little of which of James William's immediate family; however, several of his relatives, including Mack McDaniel, Mack's daughter Lucy who married Jeremiah Osborn, and Mack's son, Benjamin who married Ann Fee went to Clark Co OH about 1813. Benjamin eventually went to Miami County. When he died, he left a son named George, and there I lose his family. My point is that while my immediate family went to IN then IL, there were relatives who were in or went to OH. Problem is that plenty of Kentucky King families also went the same route. We would have to find a common thread, and so far, I haven't found it. Copied your info to study. If you recognize any surnames, let me know. I have relatives and in-laws from this period named McDaniel, King, Sellers, Daley, Eaton, Bryan (fr. KY) and Ulrey, Lucas, Pope, Lee out of OH. Maybe there's a common thread. SHERRY

Hi King List Members, Ken's post of 19/10/98 struck me because it ties into my own family tradition. My grandmother was a granddaughter of Tranquilla KING. Grandmother and her sisters used to say that we were descended from Pocahontas... Some years ago, a distant cousin, also descended from Tranquilla and who never knew my grandmother, mentioned having the same family tradition. Does anyone else share this tradition? Here is what I (think) I know of my KING ancestors: KING, Tranquilla b. 1830, TN, mar. Rufus McCain in AL in 1850. KING, Amazon, b. abt. 1809, NC?, mar. Masie HAWS in TN in 1830. 3. Hi I have posted my line but no answers. As far as I know my line is German and not English. Jacob and Becky King (maybe Koenig) with son Philip came to the U.S. in 1832 or 33. Philip married Eliza Baker in Wells county Indiana. Her 1st marriage was to Peter Baker and had a son Henry born in 1847 Married Philip in 1851. They had 4 children, Rebecca, Martin (my ggrandfther) Matilda nd Valentine. All the children were married except Valentine when they moved to Kansas in 1877. Martin married Samantha Kreigh in 1875 They were cousins. Children were Perry born in Indiana Ada, Leslie, Goldie and my grandfather Jacob Russll King who were all born in LaMar Kansas Philip and Eliza had a farm near Delphas Kansas In 1894 they all moved back to Michigan. Just across the Indiana State line. After their return they mostly lived the rest of their lives in Michigan. I wonder if anyone can tell m where they came from and where they lived upon arriving in the US. It's too bad we don't ask more questions when there is someone alive to answer them. I hope someone can help me. Thanks----Sonya

    2. SHERRY MAZZETTI
    3. PAT and others, I may be missing something, as my e-mail was inaccessible for several days--who knows why. In any case, I am interested, at least, in your King names. I note you have an Elza. I have a McDaniel/King line with Elza McDaniel on it (a son of James William McDaniel and Sarah King). Elza McDaniel had a "cousin" Elza King. The quotation marks indicate that we know their is a "cousin" relationship, but we don't have the common ancestry. These two Elza's and yours born about same time. Know I missed something--yours were in Athens Co-- what state? Oh yes, I also know of an Alpheus McDaniel/McDonald, but I do not have a certain connection to his family. His father was Valentine McDaniel. Any bells ringing? SHERRY
