Hi - Are there no KINGS in Wisconsin ? Did he move there from a nearby State? Does anyone have the comparatively unusual name of "Dwight" in their Family Tree somewhere. He died in 1917 when my mother was 11 years old. She was the youngest of a family of four boys, Walt, Fred, Albert, Ray, and three girls, Mae, Susan, and (I think) Tina. Albert was killed during a sporting accident when he was in the Navy. Tina died in her youth. The boys were all thin muscular guys (about 5' 6" to 5' 8", and all looked somewhat the same. This leads me to believe that he was that kind of a looking guy. (One of the straws I'm grasping at.) There was also a tendency toward being scrappy guys. Dwight married Ella Long (1875-1969). They lived in Schoefield, Wisconsin from, I know, 1906 til 1917. I also know that the family still lived in Schoefield as of 1922, when my mother was married. I do not know of the family's location prior to 1907, but suspect it was in Wisconsin I never asked enough questions when I was a kid, but now I need to know where my grandfather came from, etc., and there is no one left to ask. Mae moved to Michigan, Walt was a vagabond (mostly out West), and the rest of the family stayed in Wisconsin, mostly Marathon County and Wood County. Would appreciate any contacts with information or suggestions to help me get out of this dead end. Harry R. Miller hrm@lightstream.net
JEANNE, PHYLLIS, JANETTE, Combining replies here. Jeanne--Assuming that I have a Native American connection, it would have to date from (roughly) 1800 or earlier. Your Cobb/King is much later, and you don't say your King is the NA line. It's vaguely possible that there is a connection. For you, I suggest that you investigate whether your Cobb or King (or both) ancestors were on the Dawes or other rolls (assuming five civilized tribes). You can find out more about them that way. Sometimes there are several generations in total that you can trace. Phyllis--I could not find a marriage for you for Elmer Pope King and Nora Hetrick. My CD goes only to (roughly) 1900. If they married after that, they probably would not be listed. Also, there are a few counties not on the CD. By far the majority are, but some are not. Any idea what county they were in? Just in case, I found the following: Elmer E. King and Julia Maude King 12-27-1899 Lake County Elmer P. King and Ida V. Bivin 9-13-1883 Macoupin County Elmer W. King and Mamie E. Corley 4-24-1889 Adams County There was no one named Nora Hetrick listed at all. Sorry. Janette--Eli King married Sarah Sanders in Hendricks County 11-5-1846. If he died in 1849/50, I doubt that they had many children. You might want to look into these marriages for possible family connections: Eli McCaslin married Martha Sanders 11-2-1837 and Eli McCaslin married Elizabeth A. King 4-24-1844. Don't know if the same Eli McCaslin marrying twice or not. Suggest you check out other Hendricks County marriages online. I found 21 King marriages (says 22 but one is duplicated) and nearly the same number of Sanders marriages in Hendricks County, IN before 1850. You or anyone else can search online for them. Think this is the correct address for the Indiana State Library website for marriages before 1850 http://www.statelib.lib.in.us/tango/marriage Hope this helps someone. SHERRY
Looking for a Thomas King b. SC in 1820 who married a woman named Priscilla. They moved to Campbell Co., GA, then Tallapoosa Co., AL, and finally Boone Co., MO. If this sounds familiar to anyone, please email. Rene King Thompson

-- [ From: Kristine Ludwig * EMC.Ver #3.1a ] -- Hi, all. Everyone here always seems so helpful, I thought I would share some of my resources in return. I have an Illinois pre-1900 marriages index . I thought I would list the KING marriages for you. I initially thought about just asking anyone if they wanted lookups, but then thought that they probably archive these mailing lists, so it might be helpful to future users if I actually post them. There are a lot, so I will only do a little at a time. Here we go. Hope it helps somebody. Apr 4, 1715 d. Sep 11 1777 Sarah b. May 5, 1717 d. Oct 30 1801 in Norway, Herk(imer?) Co, NY m. Charles King (son of Jonathan King of Northampton, MA) Samuel b. May 24, 1719 Esther b. May 23, 1721 Mary b. Apr 5, 1723 Marcy or Mercy b. Apr 29 1725 d. Jun 29 1725 Barsheba or Bathsheba b. Sep 5 1726 William b. Nov 28 1727 John b. Sep 11 1730 Marcy or Mercy (again) b. Sep 12 1732 Alice b. Feb 18 1735 Hezekiah (the elder) was Deacon of the church in Mansfield and Bolton CT. Daughter Sarah is my 6GR-Grandmother. I am at a loss as to where this family came from -- I have not yet found any earlier records in CT. Can anyone provide me with more information regarding Hezekiah and Sarah? Thanks for your help!
Hi Darrel I also have a Clement King in Providence, RI, b. abt 1635 in England, m. Elizabeth Baker of Ipswich, MA and d. in Providence, RI in Nov 12, 1694. Could this be the same Clement? All King Readers, The obvious finally hit me. Daus of Jesse King--Hanah, Hamey and Marey, Hendricks are not three or four people. It's Hannah Harney (wife of Claiborn) and Mary/Polly Ann Hendricks (wife of William). Diane might still be related to this family--not necessarily through Commodore Perry King but through a relative. He had a ton of them in Harrison Co KY alone. Of course, her SITHA does not have to be related to SCITHIA Dowell, but if the name was consistently recorded as Sitha rather than, say, Cynthia, there is a similarity that should be explored. Anything uncommon is worth looking at twice. In any case, I am interested in this family tree, since it also apparently includes a George Dowell (my grandmother's cousin married a George Dowell, but a much later one whose ancestry I do not really know) and a marriage to a Bassham. I have an in-law relationship to a Bassham descendant in Shelby Co IL, although it's not closely linked to any King. SHERRY <Prodigy Distribution List> TO: HJZM01A
DIANE, I have now had time to read your entries, and we might have a connection--doubt it--but maybe. My greatgrandmother, Viola McDaniel, who was born in 1855 and was partially raised by her grandparents, James William and Sarah (King) McDaniel told both my mother and my grandmother that one of her grandmothers (surname and generation probably not noted by my mother/grandmother) married a man who was half-Indian. I have NOT been able to confirm this assertion, although it was apparently accepted by at least some of my grandmother's contemporaries, and my grandmother had some Indian features. It is NOT easy to prove Indian blood, even if you belong to one of the so-called "five civilized tribes" who have, for the most part, records to prove citizenship. The only possible match that I have found is VERY tenuous--the name Marshall King which occurs in KY and who is probably a relative, same name in an in-law will after the Civil War (and definitely a younger person) and a Marshall King who appears in a Cherokee record. Not a unique name but unusual. From my not-very-attentive grandmother and mother, I also learned of some vague connection with MO and maybe ARK. I have learned that after my great-great grandfather died in the C WAR, the children's guardian, Joseph Buchanan, lived in MO; however, I am 99% sure that he had lived in IN where they were living and was possibly my great-great grandfather's employer at some point. No info on ARK. Again, there is probably no connection, but just in case.... If you can discover the name of either of Sitha King's parents, IN marriages pre-1850 are online. You might find their marriage. If you can discover the name of either of Ben's parents, I have an Illinois CD of marriages 1765-1900 which covers most counties. Let me know, if I can help. SHERRY
There were several Kings listed in the 1830 Pope Co. IL. census. I would like to compare notes with anyone researching those King families. Roger O. Willingham
DIANE, Stuff like this drives me batsy until I find it, so....Hope it helps your or someone else who reads here. I have found what I was looking for. From World Family Tree Vol. 2 #1601, I find the family of Nehemiah Dowell who died Fauquier Co VA who has children Elizabeth m. James Mallory 1792 Fauquier, SCITHIA m. Jesse King (no more info), Sally m. Samuel Moore (divorced), Nehemiah Jr. m. Elizabeth Dearing Anderson Fauquier Co 1793 (family to TN), and Elisha m. Ann Bitzer 1803 Loudoun CoVA. There is more on this family on Vol 4 #995. Volume 6, #3463 shows Jesse King is son of Robert King b. 1755 Fauquier and d. 1823 Harrison Co KY. Full list of children born between 1776 and 1794: John, Millie, Robert, Jesse (b. Abt 1785), James, Braxton, Joshua, Jane, Armistad, George B. Most of the rest of my info comes from Harrison Co Ky records. There is quite a bit. Can't copy all here. Jesse's will was extracted from Book E, 1842-1847. Apparently his wife predeceased him. The extractor made comment that it was copied as written, since the daughter's names appear to be "weird." Here is the extraction: Will of Jesse King, being weak in body.... Son: Comadore--is to be given money to build a ferryboat sons: George, Greenberry, John daus: Hanah, Hamey and Marey (or Marly), Hendricks son: Balis executor: friend David Snodgrass witnesses: Ambrose D. Vanhook, Allen (X) Davis written: not dated; probated 11 November 1845 Book E, p. 311 A quick look at Harrison Co marriage bonds shows that Marey/Marly is likely Mary aka the Polly Ann King who married William Hendricks Dec. 9, 1841. Jesse wrote note of permission and a George King (prob his son) was bondsman. Hannah may have married Claiborn C. Harney. Did not find a Hamey. Other marriages for Jesse's children: Commodore Perry to Mary Smith in 1837, George to Elizabeth Lemmon in 1833 and/or Ann Eads in 1841, Greenberry to Melvina Gunsaules/Gunsall, and John to Rebecca Brooking(s). Robert King, Jesse's father, MIGHT BE the brother of William King of Bracken Co KY who was in the REV WAR. In it, he states that he was from Fauquier Co VA and lived TN before Bracken. He also mentions brother Robert. William may have been married to a Brown. At the very least, he had Brown relatives. Additionally, there is a Richard King living in Harrison who was from Loudoun Co. I probably would think him a candidate to be my John King's brother, except that their birthdates are only a few months apart. If accurate, they cannot be brothers. Further, I think Richard of Harrison is somehow related to Robert's family. I am still working on all of this. COMMODORE KING appears in Tower Hill Twp., Shelby Co IL in 1860 with a James Smith two doors away (wife's relative?). No other King families nearby. This is from printed copy published by Shelby Co Gen Soc. Commodore KING 43M Farmer Renter 740 Mary 38F Sarah T. 20F Mary E. 18F Nancy J. 11F Martha 6 F George 11/12M All except the youngest child are shown as born Kentucky. Sorry that I cannot find another SCITHIA or SITHA, but maybe it's a lead. SHERRY
I am most interested in your Thomas and Mary Blackwell King. My ancestor was Nancy King, b c 1786 in SC...possibly York Co., or the southern part of NC that later became SC. She married James Pursley of York Co., SC. They moved to TN and were in McMinn Co. for the 1830 census. They may have lived in Maury Co. before McMinn. They married c 1809. One of their sons was named Thomas King Pursley. Because of this I believe her father's name was probably Thomas. Their oldest daughter may have been named Mary. I have been unable to uncover a Thomas King to fit this puzzle. Could Thomas and Mary be her parents? When were they married? I am interested in any information about a woman named Morning King. I have been told she is on the 1850 census for Jones County, GA as being 50 years old. She is listed with a son, William S. King, and a daughter, Elizabeth King. Has anyone heard of this Morning King? Thanks, Christine creyn@cyberstreet.com

Hi All, Frustration has set in and I hope someone out there can help me. I am attempting to research my husband King's. This is what I have so far: Augustus Koenig and Henry Sonne, his nephew apparently stowed away on an unknown ship in 1844-49. It seems that Augustus had killed a man and he and Henry left Germany shortly after that. According to the family, they left ship in New Orleans, LA. When next heard about they had come up the Mississippi River to a place called Woodards Valley, KY? Year unknown. Have not been able to find valley. He may be buried in Koll Cemetery in Ohio Co... Hello fellow King researchers: As you know, I am searching for the history of my GRT-GRT-GRT Grandfather William King. (He married Sarah Garner and lived many years in Claiborne County Tennessee.) We have known for some time he was born in Scott County Virginia in 1779, and Sarah was born in 1781. I just got the 1820 Scott County Virginia Census papers showing ONE William King! I know Scott was made up of 3 other counties, but this list of family is just too close NOT be him. There are also 2 other King household heads listed - 2 John King listings. Could one or both be related to my William? One John King is a single man over the age of 45. The other is a John King over age 45, with a wife over 45, and 2 boys (one under 10, one 10-16) and 3 girls (one under 10, one 10-16, and one 16-26). Could the single John King over 45 be William's father? Could the other John King be his brother? I figured the ages and compared them with my known William & Sarah's children, and they seem to fit well - except for the two older women who are living in the home. (Possibly sisters of William or Sarah, or mothers of one of them?) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- WILLIAM KING HOUSEHOLD (from 1820 Scott County Census) Note: I listed the names of William & Sarah's children we have so far, next to the Census list. It did not have names, only age ranges. 1. boy 0-10 Hiram b. 1815 age 5 2. boy 0-10 David b. 1820 baby 3. boy 0-10 Elias 4. boy 0-10 John 5. boy 10-16 Elcana 6. boy 10-16 ? 7. Man 26-45 William b. 1779 age 41 8. girl 0-10 Rosa b. 1810 age 10 9. girl 0-10 Jennie b. 1818 age 2 10. girl 10-16 Lucinda or Minnie ? 11. woman 26-45 Sarah b. 1781 age 39 12. woman 45+ ? 13. woman 45+ ? ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Any ideas on where to go from here? Could this be my William? Thanks for listening.... Nancy :-)
