Hi, List Looking for any information on Higason King and wife Elizabeth in North Carolina . The couple had sons Robert, William, Higason Jr. and five daughter Mary, Elizabeth, Martha, Sarah, and Cloey. Thank you for your time. Rick
I have been researching the King Family for a couple of months and asked several times of those of you on the King-list about information regarding Jemima King of Wilbraham, MA daughter of William King, Jr. and Thankful Warner. I came upon the following information and hope that someone on the list will have additional information to add to what I have. I am interested in ancestors of William King, Jr. and Sr. as well as descendants of this family. Also any corrections or additions to what I have are very welcome. William King, Jr. b. 20 May (or January) 1743 in Springfield (or Long Meadow), Hampden Co., MA (formerly Hampshire Co.), died at West Winfield, Herkimer, NY on 5 February 1817. Married on 1 January 1767 in Wilbraham, Hampden Co., MA to Thankful Warner b. 30 June 1747 at Wilbraham, Hampden Co., MA d. 4 May 1824 at Wilbraham, Hampden Co., MA. Their children numbered 13 all born at Wilbraham, Hampden Co., MA: Elam King, b. 3 May 1759, d. 23 January 1823 at Pawlet, Rutland, VT, m. Kent Co., MI I have the parents of William King being Lieutenant William King, Sr. b. 1717, d. 21 September 1797 m. 11 June 1742 to Jemima Bliss b. 15 May 1720, d. 27 February 1785. From this union there were 10 or 11 children. I have Lt. William King Sr.'s parents as: John King and Sarah Allan I would appreciate any additional information anybody has on this particular family. Also correction or addition of any dates/names/place names.
James, yes William King, Jr. and Thankful Warner had 12 additional children besides Jemima. I believe that a good number of them were born in Wilbraham, MA. William King, Jr. died 5 February 1817 in West Winfield, NY. The last child in the family, Eunice was born 30 May 1789, so she too may have been born in Wilbraham, MA, but can't say for sure. I have another email where I had more information but it is on my computer at work and I'll have to wait till Monday to get that information. I certainly would be interested if you or anyone else can provide additional information on the Kings, especially William, Jr. and his wife Thankful Warner. Good hunting I'll get back to you on Monday. Hi Folks: >From time to time I see data posted on the Warren families of Lincoln Co.,TN. It reminds me that one of my KING family aunts married a Warren from Lincoln Co., TN. His name was Ollie B. WARREN. One of his widowed daughter's is still living in Birmingham, AL. Ollie spent most of his adult life working in coal mines in the Birmingham area. I don't have too much data on this family, since they only had two daughters and one never married. The other had one son and he died unmarried just before graduating from a local college. Let me know if this information can be of help to anyone working on the Warren line. Best wishes for the new year. Tom King, Sr. Scottsdale, AZ
I haven't been active for awhile....but, still read the e-mails....Still looking for more children of Harmon King and wife Mary V. Starnes of Union/Mecklenburg Counties, NC....Harmon lived to be nearly 100 and died in 1906, was born NC ( I found another Harmon King on the 1790 lists--I am hope he is the progenitor and was in the American Rev. War)...I have made some contact with several of my g-g-grandfather's ( James, son of Harmon) siblings....but not enough to put the whole picture together. My g-grandfather was Benjamin Franklin...who married a Flora M and later Martha ....my grandmother was born Daisy M. and changed her name every time she turned around....(makes for interesting research). Daisy aka Virginia aka Willie left NC when she was in her mid teens and ended up in MT. She married my grandfather (poor guy)...after a nine years...there was a very messy divorce and all names changed again....BWG. Anyway, my grandmother's brother was George W. B(elk) King of Kannapolis, NC, who was the salt of the earth and a really great guy... My half aunt (Ethel)...(is there such a thing?) married Lee Watt and moved off to Baltimore, MD...that part of the family never had anything more to do with our line--over the more than ten years research, I have tried to reconnect with the Baltimore line....but, they want nothing to do with us (being black sheep line of the family has it's advantages-as soon as I am able to determine the advantages I'll be happy to share....ROFL)... So, I have to go this alone. Any of this sound familiar to anyone out there? Would love some info...Thanks... Dawn in Chandler AZ.....:c) ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, December 27, 2002 12:36 PM Subject: [KING] Re: KING-Warren Family Connection > Hi Folks: > > >From time to time I see data posted on the Warren families of Lincoln Co.,TN. > It reminds me that one of my KING family aunts married a Warren from Lincoln > Co., TN. Hello, I am researching our ancestor: Susan S. King b. 4 Mar 1825 TN married Jeremiah Bacon on 14 Dec 1844 in Washington Co. TN They had several children in TN before moving to Macoupin Co. IL where she died in June 1904. Both of Susan's parents were born in TN (1880 census). I have seen a few references online to a Susanah Sharp King born 4 Mar 1825 in TN , daughter of William King and Martha Crouch (both born in TN). I found two sites that list the children of William I. King (son of Thomas King and Susan Sharp) and Martha Crouch. A couple cite the Bacon marriage, but there is another which cites a Dyer marraige I also have found other commonalities with the above Susan (daughter of William/Martha)... Susan's brother, Thomas Jefferson King went to IL to teach & his first wife, Axah Duncan, died Sept 1869 in Macoupin Co, IL there are also several Couch's buried there haven't followed up on that yet for relations The only glitch is the reference I find to the Dyer marriage... I am wondering if someone might be able to point me to the definative link I am seeking or can assist me in this point. Thank you, Terri Casteel
Hello Sharlotte, You do not say when your William Edward King died, but if he or his wife died during or after 1913, you should be able to locate a death certificate for him and his wife. This would give his parentage and perhaps where his/she was born. Once you ID their parents, chances are good that you should find the same kind of death certificate for them, as they could have been born ca. 1840 and would have been around their 70's in 1913. There are counties where this information is only provided to descendants, so you may have to initiate getting the information from the proper sources. Hello King List, Below is my King family as far as I can determine it from records found in Orange County, North Carolina, in the part which eventually became Alamance County in 1849. I am hoping to find some information on the earlier antecedents of these Kings. Perhaps the given names will provide some insights for those of you who have taken your lineages back a few years before my earliest 1772 estate records. For those of you who find some help from my data, I would appreciate your attaching my name as the source for you. That is the only payment that I wish for the countless hours I spent in courthouses and archives trying to pull all of this together. Best regards, John Fox Winston Salem, NC 1. Samuel KING Notes: Possible early ancestor of the following Kings. He died intestate and the estate sale, according to the 1772 Estate Papers listed as buyers: Thomas King, John King, Elizabeth King, Edward King, Armour King and Benjamin Roney. Benjamin Roney was a resident of the part of Orange County which became northern Alamance County. The following Kings lived in that part also.IT IS ALSO POSSIBLE THAT THIS SAMUEL WAS THE SON OF JOHN KING AND BROTHER TO THOMAS, EDWARD, JOHN AND ARMOUR! It is possible that Samuel's wife was Elizabeth because Samuel King and Elizabeth King were appointed Guardians to Ann Rainey, an orphan of James Rainey, age 12 at May Court Orange County 1766, Item 447. Also, Elizabeth served as co-administrator of the estate with Edward King, 26 October 1772. In Orange County Wills of 1811, Benjamin Rainey mentioned his wife Nancy and his son-in-law John King, to whom he left land adjacent to the Guilford County line Children: John 1.1 John KING Death Date: Circa May 1797 Death Place: Orange County, North Carolina Notes: In his will dated 17 February 1797 and probated May 1797 John King leaves the bulk of his estate to his son John and $1 to each of his other sons, Thomas, Edward, Amour, William. Spouse: Unknown UNKNOWN Death Date: Before 17 February 1797 Children: Thomas Edward John Jr. Armour William 1.1.1 Thomas KING Notes: First son named in the will of John King. It is assumed by this researcher that John King named his sons in the order of birth, until other evidence comes to light. 1.1.2 Edward KING Death Date: 1801 Notes: Edward and his brother, John, died intestate in the year 1801. (North Carolina Estate Records, North Carolina State Archives) Edward had obtained 400 acres as tenant in common with his brother, John King, 10 July 1778 in Orange County on both sides of Deep Creek of Stoney Creek. (Orange County, North Carolina Land Entries 1778-1795). An additional land entry as tenants in common with his brother was made 10 June 1781 and issued 9 November 1784 for 150 acres on waters of Deep Creek Running for compliment. He also acquired 150 acres in Orange County on waters of Deep Creek, 5 February 1795; warrent issued 6 February1806. (Orange County, North Carolina Land Entries 1778-1795). Altogether he amassed some 450 acres of land for himself and his family. His estate papers contained his wife's name and the names of all of his children. Hi! I just sent a KING list message, but it hasn't come up? Is the list working? Nancy
Hello King folks: I'm still on the hunt for anything about my William KING (b. 1779) - came from Virginia (North Carolina?) to eastern Tennessee early 1800s. I came across a couple of interesting things about a Thomas KING who was elected a representative to the House of Commons, from Hawkins County North Carolina, (now Hawkins County, TN) in 1788 and 1789. (Remember, Claiborne County was formed from part of Hawkins County, and Claiborne County is where my William lived.) This Thomas KING was born _____? and died about 1805. He was a colonel in the militia, and was a surveyor by trade. The most interesting fact about him is his relationship to David (Davy) CROCKETT. click here to see the entire website about this: http://freepages.folklore.rootsweb.com/~pickensarchive/meckdvs.html Here is a little from the site: Notes from "The Mecklenburg Signers and Their Neighbors", by Worth S. Ray. Archibald Crockett, his wife proved in Mecklenburg County, N.C. Jan 3, 1804 (his wife was a KING) mentions: 1. Son, Elias Crockett, land where I live 2. Daughter, Ann Crockett, wife of a Mr. Taylor, tract of land where Frederick Taylor lives (evidently Ann married Frederick Taylor)> 3. Son John Crockett, to him i will and gequeath a tract and parcel of land now lying in the hands of Col. Thomas KING, now living inthe State ofTenn., in Hawkins county, and all the rest of my property, except one woman's saddle, t be taken out for my daughter mary ann> Executores: Son John Crockett and Samuel Downs, in the presence of Eli Crocket and Clias Crocket The above will of the grandfather of the celebrated and famous David (Davy) Crockett, his fahter being the son of John Crockett mentioned in the will. This will refutes the idea that the father of "David Crockett" was a penniless "back woodsman" in Ten, and shows that he was a close kinsman of the Honorable Thomas KING, an uncle, who lived in and helped to corgaize Hawkins County, Tenn,. (in 1786), and who served from that diestrict in the Legislature of N.C. The next item I found is about a William KING: Notes from the "The Mecklenburg Signesrs and Their Neighbors", by Worth S. Ray William King, his wife, probated in Mecklenbur County, N.C. on Nov. 1, 1788. Will BookD Page 138 mentions: My dear wife mary Ann King, my four children. 1. Archiblad Crockett, 2. John King 3. Elizabeth McCorkle 4. William McCullough Executors named are Archibald Crockett and John King. Witnesses, were Eli Crockett, john Elliott and Henry Downs This William KING lived somewhere East of Providence church, of which Archilbald Crockett ws one of the first elders. He was the great-grandfather of the famous David (Davy) Crockett of Tenn. and Texas, his daughter having married Archibald Crockett, the Henry Downs who signed this will as one of the witness was a Signer of the Mecklenburg Declaration on May 20, 1775 Here is a little more about KING names of Hawkins County: From: "Goodspeed's History of East TN" Among the school masters, who taught in the school - James King, 1786 The county court records of 1790 contained the following entry: "Whereas it has been represented to the court by Thomas King, that Matthew English and Elizabeth English, orphan children of William English, who was taken and killed by the Indians in December, 1787, at which time the aforesaid children were carried into captivity by the Indians, supposed to be of the Wyandotte Nation, and are yet in captivity. Thomas King therefore represents that the said orphans might be recovered if there was property sufficient for that purpose. Ordered by the court that James Blair and William Patterson do receive from the said Thomas King or from any other person the property belonging to the estate of the said William English, and the same apply as they shall think best for the redemption of the said orphans, and Thomas King was discharged thereupon of said property." In 1785 the State of Franklin organized Spencer County, including, besides other territory, the present Hawkins County. Thomas Henderson was chosen county court clerk and colonel of militia, and William Cocke and Thomas King representative to the Assembly. My question to you folks on the list -- ----- How is this or IS this Thomas KING or this William KING related to MY William KING? Thanks Nancy :-)
hello to all, I just wanted to let everyone know that they caught Patrick Gleeson at 11:30 last night in Daytona Beach, Florida, but they still have not found the children. It is not looking good, so I am asking that everyone say a prayer for Ashley and Joshua and also for their mother so she can have strength to get through this. Thank you Sandy [email protected]

The children are Asshley Gleeson 5 and Joshua Gleeson 3. We are hoping to find the children alive and well even though things are'nt sounding to hopeful. All we can do is pray for their safe return. Instead of sending pictures to the list I am sending the website that has pictures of the children and father and all the info you need to help. Please pass this around to everyone you know. Your help is greatly appreciated. http://codeamber.org/gleeson/ Thank you Sandy [email protected]
