I have noticed a lot of listings for Kings born about 1780 to 1816 in Va.?,N.C.? or S.C.? My John King was born in Lincoln County North Carolina and his wife, Elizabeth B. Clark was born in Granville District, N.C. Could it be that these Kings born around the same time are siblings? Lincoln County is only 15 or so miles from the south Carolina line and about 60 miles from the Virginia line. Hmmmm. Anyway... Martha, half Cherokee, was a tall, big-boned woman, gentle and generous with children and grandchildren. They lived in their later years in Elvins, MO, owning and running a hotel. I have a notation that he learned the shinglemaker trade early in life. Then: "History of Southeast Missouri" illustrated 1888, originally published by Goodspeed, Chicago in 1888 and in reprint by Southern Historical Press, Inc., 1990, Greenville, South Carolina: John W. Laird is the son of J.M. and Mary A. (Johnson) Laird. The father was born in 1830 in Central Tennessee, and early learned the shoemaker's trade. He was married in 1855 and located on a farm in Randolph County, ARK, and remained there until 1863, when he removed to Jackson County, IL, and resumed farming and working at his trade. In 1866 he returned to Tennessee and two years later came to Missouri and settled on a farm in Bollinger County, which he afterward managed in connection with working at his trade. In 1862 he served six months in the Confederate Army. He died at his home in Bollinger County in 1877. I'm trying to find the connection between Wanton King, b. 1767 in Quidnessette, Rhode Island and two Ward Kings. Arnold's Vital Records of Rhode Island states that Wanton King & his wife, Sarah Matteson, had a son, Ward King, b. May 13, 1800 in W. Greenwich, Kent Co. Rhode Island. I was e-mailed by another researcher who says she has a Ward King, b. 1801 in Massachusetts, who is the grandson of Wanton King. The parents of this second Ward King are Ward King Sr. and his wife, Sarah. I believe Sarah's last name may be Walker. There is a Ward King in the Berkshire Co. Mass. census in 1800, while Wanton King is in Kent Co. Rhode Island. In 1810, Wanton King & Ward King Sr. are both in Hancock, Berkshire Co. Mass, and both have males living with them age ten and under. Later, Wanton King and two Ward Kings all show up in Chautauqua Co. New York. Wanton King's will only mentions one Ward King, but which one? What is the connection of the different Wards to Wanton King? Which Ward is Wanton's son, or does he have two sons named Ward from different wives? (although given the dates, this scenario really doesn't fit.) I'm also looking for connections to my Henry King's descendents and siblings (especially his sister Abigail King Sly). Henry was b. May 11, 1794, son of Job King & Eunice Albro. Olive is my great-grandmother. She married Elijah HOY. Her father was John A. KING, b. 1 MAR 1818 d. 2 MAY 1868. His father is (possibly) Stephen KING, b. 4 JUL 1776 (!) d. 18 OCT 1870 in Virginia (now WV). Family tradition is that John A. KING was married to a Native American woman, by whom he had all of his children. When she died, he married Elizabeth --?--, mainly to take care of the children. John had been "out West" and returned to West Virginia with his first wife and their children. I have no real proof that Stephen KING is John's father. He married Jane DEARTH. I would love to find John's father or prove this one, and then follow on back. Any help or clues appreciated greatly.

Married Ann Powell (Powel) August 29, 1844 in Laurens Co GA. 1850 Federal Census, Santa Rosa County, Florida - 31 Oct 1850; 2nd Div; Geo. D. Fisher, Ass't Marshall, page 472, household 349, family 340, lists: King, John C., age 38, laborer, b Miss, with wife Ann King, age 35, b GA. But no children are listed with them. In the 1860 census for Baldwin County AL, there were no Kings listed other than John King. In this census record, he lists a domestic servant named Mary A. Powell, 30 years old. After his wife Annie died, the census indicates that Mary is John's wife 1870 census for Baldwin County AL, shows a Mary A. King being with Robert Vaults. Robert and John are adjacent entries and therefore are possibly neighbors.
