I believe that Hugh King came through the Carolinas to Giles County after the Revolutionary war in which he served. He was born in Scotland. It would be nice if I could find a connection here Jim K.

My King family, originated in this country, with John and Jean King, who emigrated from Tyrone County, Ulster about 1730, accompanied by their four sons, Samuel, Victor, William and James, and one daughter, Martha. John and Jean were already at a rather advanced age when they came from Ireland. It appears that Martha and William never married. Samuel had at least two children, John and Jean, then he dropped out of sight, possibly moving south to the Carolinas. James also had children and some of his descendants now reside in New Jersey. My ancestor was Victor King. He married twice, first to Martha McKean, and second to Jane (aka Jean) Moffit. My ancestor was his second wife, Jane. Victor and his first wife had six children; Jean, Hugh (a Lieutenant in the Revolution), John, Agnes, Victor, and Martha. With his second wife, Jean, Victor had five more children; Susannah, William, Samuel Moffett, James, and Thomas. William King, son of Victor and Jane, married Nancy Waugh in York County, Pennsylvania on 2 Apr 1787. Her parents were Susannah Moffett (not known if she was related to Jane Moffit) and John Waugh. In about 1794 William and Nancy moved to Scott County, Kentucky, where five of their six children were born. Their children were; Mary, Victor, John, Samuel Moffett, Susan, and Jane. The last child, Jane, was born in Ohio. Sometime around 1799 William and Nancy moved their family north to Montgomery County, Ohio where William cleared land he purchased from the Government...the land is now part of Dayton, Ohio. John King, the second son of William and Nancy, married a woman named Harriet. In all of the records I have found (none of them being official documents) she is referred to as Harriet King, but it is never quite clear if this was her maiden name, or if the references are using her married name. I am fairly certain of their marriage year and month, since a write-up in the Madison, Indiana newspaper in January, 1768 refers to their having celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary the previous month, however John King's obituary in the same paper states that "after moving to Madison, he returned to Dayton to marry the woman who now mourns his death." I have never been able to find any record of the marriage of John and Harriet. John King, in 1817, along with his brother Victor, moved from Dayton, Ohio to Madison, Indiana, where they both lived the rest of their lives. Now, as noted above, William King, John's father, had a brother named Thomas King. Sometime after William moved to Dayton, a Thomas King and his daughter Harriet also move to Dayton. I have found their names in church records (the church of which William King was a deacon and secretary). In December 1817 Harriet King the daughter of Thomas King (identified as such) is given a certificate of dismissal from the Presbyterian Church in Dayton, as she is leaving the city. In early 1818 Harriet King (now the wife of John King) is accepted for membership in the Presbyterian Church of Madison, Indiana, "by certificate." My question, my brick wall (after this unforgivably long story) is......WHO WAS HARRIET? Was she Harriet King, daughter of Thomas, and possibly John King's cousin? And why is there no record of their marriage? I've searched Ohio, Indiana, and even back in Adams County, PA. Nothing. Were there laws in Ohio in 1817 against marrying your first cousin? She then came to live with Elizabeth and her family until she died in 1836. This James Washington KING was born Jan 12, 1871 in Pine Knot, Whitley, Kentucky. He died Jul 15, 1961 in Bonne Terre, St. Francois, Missouri. I have lots of info on him if anybody wants it. He was married to Laura Hazel NORTON on Feb 4, 1921 in LaJunta, Otero, Colorado. His parents were Archibald KING and Nancy Jane ANDERSON. In 1880, he was in Valley Township, Rice, Kansas. In 1920, he was in Pueblo, Pueblo, Colorado. I haven't found him yet for 1900 or 1910. The 1930 St. Francois, St. Francois, Missouri Census indicates that he was married a first time about 1896. My grandfather bore the most unusual name of John King, and lived in a most unusual place - North Carolina. We know a fair bit about his stay in NC, but not much before. What we have is this: Born prob. 1830-40, almost certainly in Scotland {possibly Fife} Came to the States in 1860 - entered through Baltimore, MD Married Janet Greig Jack - a girl he met aboard ship to the States - May 14, 1860, most likely in Baltimore. {The date isn't confirmed, but it's what we have.} Janet was b. 1839 in Scoonie, Fife, SCT, d. 1910 in Baltimore, MD. Moved to Raleigh, Wake Co., NC, where he and Janet had 7 children: Christina {1863 - 1938} William {1865 - 1927} George {1869 - bef 1880} John F. {1871 - 1931} Margaret {1874 - 1948} Janet {1877 - 1953} Peter Robert {1880 - 1956} my father Grampa John died 1880 in Asheville, NC, while supervising construction of a new Episcopal Church in that city. His body was returned to Raleigh, where {according to his obit} it was interred in Oakwood Cemetery. John was a member of the William G. Hill Lodge of Masons, and the lodge was in charge of the funeral. While in Raleigh, he was superintendent of construction on the post office and court house; he apparently also owned a "marble yard" in or near the city. He and his family owned/resided on a lot in what would today be downtown Raleigh. After John's death, the family moved to Baltimore where they lived out their lives {excluding my father} and are buried in Loudon Park Cemetery in that city. NOTE: Oakwood Cem. in Raleigh apparently can't find John's gravesite; Loudon Park Cem. in Baltimore can't locate Janet's gravesite - though 5 of the children are found there. {Son George should be with his father.} Very little data on the children. Per 1900 Baltimore census, William is married to Fanny M., b. 1869, has a son, J. Gilbert, b. 1899. Census also lists as "boarders" Annie and Hattie Lyle, possibly mother and sister of wife Fanny {ages would be right]. Sorry for the length, but this is a wall I'd really like to break. Arthur King was born 1779 in NC. He was in Giles County, TN by 1827 with a William King who lived next door to him in 1836. Since Arthur was a surveryor. County as early as 1820.. The mother of his children was Margaret (maiden name King) but 1850 Giles Census shows Arthurs living with a Nancy King.Arthur died before 1860 leaving the following children: George F.born Aug 12, 1818 in NC. Robert David born July 27, 1823 in NC.. Elizabert born 1827. and Lewis A. born June 2, 1828 in Tennessee. It is believed that William King was a brother of Arthur's and that they came from the Orange-Wake area of NC. My grandfathers name was Ernest King. He was born in NY(?) 5/5/1872, and died in Bridgeport CT on 4/19/1949. He married Sarah Archambault on 7/21/1894 in Bridgeport CT. His parents were from Germany. I don't know their names or if he had any brothers or sisters. He had 6 children that all lived and were married in the Bridgeport area. Sarah's birth records are confused in the various documents that I have found. She was born 8/20/1875 in either Canada, RI, or Bristol, CT. Her parents were from France. I have no information on them or her siblings. She died 1/12/1933 in Bridgeport. I would appreciate any information to fill in the blanks.
