I have very few records of Robert Kings in western NC who were the right age to be my ggrandfather. I am wondering if he may have come from another area of the state. Rita, I'm sure there were lots of Robert King's, but I do know there was a Robert King in Moore Co., North Carolina in the 1820 and I think 1830 census records. From your dates this Robert might be too old to be your Robert. I really don't know if Moore Co. is close to Buncombe or Cherokee. Just a little tidbit that might help, I hope. I am searching for the liniage of William Henry King, in the 1820 census he is living next to Henry(Banner) King in Ashton , Clendenin district on 18 Mile Creek, Ohio River, Mason Co. WV. Family tradition says that they were from NC, perhaps Stokes Co. NC. William was born between 1775 and 1795 and died by 1832. William was in the 1830 census and only Williams wife Tamar Wallace King(daughter of Luke Wallace and Hannah Oldaker) was in the 1840 census. Children born between 1815 and 1826 William Banner King Winston Banner King Preston Banner King Maria King Asbury Louisa King Sarah King Hughes The 1820 census for William gives, 1 boy less than 10, 2 males 45 and up, 2 girls under 10, 1 female 26 to 45.(Luke and Hannah were married in Bedford co. Va in 1795) For Henry, 1 male 26 to 45, 3 females under 10, 2 females 10 to 16, 1 female 16 to 45. The site at Ashton was a water mill, some where near Hughes Branch of 18 mile creek. There are a number of Millwrights listed in later census of the area that married into or were related by marriage to the Kings. In the 1850 census there were Kings, Wallis's, Hughes, and Angles still located around the mill land. The land was sold to speculators in 1853 for non payment of back taxes to 1832. Henry purchased about 300 acres around 1823 and William the adjoining 100 acres of land in 1826. The 1853 deed mentions adjoining Henry Kings land. King was b. in NC, per census information. We believe the H. may stand for Haywood. He married Catharine Bird, Dec 27, 1837 in Orange Co. NC. Amanda was their first child to be born in MO, in 1843. They were on the 1850 Census in Ray County, MO. I do not have them on an 1860 census. By 1870, John had died and Catharine is in Ray County, MO with her younger children. Catharine's youngest son was 8, so I'm assuming John probably did not die until after 1861. Looking for Robert King, the father and family of James Wiley KING b b ca 1854-58 in Buncombe Co. or Cherokee Co., NC. Robert King died during the Civil War. James Wiley King is in Cherokee Co. NC in 1860 as a 7 year old using his middle name, Wiley and living with himother, Malissa (Prince) King (also using her middle name) b 1834. Robert King was not in the home and Malissa King was yet not noted as a widow on the census. The two were residing next to James Wiley King's grandparents, Wiley and Sarah Prince. James Wiley King and his mother are in the 1880 census of Whitfield Co. GA as W.J King and Malisa Huff (she remarried Samuel Huff and he was also killed in the Civil War). In the 1890 Oklahoma Territory Census they are found with his mother, Mary M. Prince King Huff b1832 TN. They are living in Cleveland Co. OT where they went for the Land Rush. Looking for any information on Joshua Charles King, born September 9, 1808 in Kanawha County, (W)VA. Lived in Nicholas County, moved to Clay County, Bomont, WV. Some time before December 28, 1858, when he wrote to his brother to sell all his property and collect all moneys owed him, he went to Kansas Territory. He was a doctor and a Griffith lady and her sister went with him. One may have been his nurse. He had the following children in Kansas: Robert, Martha, James, John, Pruit and Enss (?) King. For a very long time I have looked for the first wife of Charles Woodley King, born 1765 in Mecklenburg, VA and died November 18, 1825 in Nicholas County, (W)VA. They had two children that I know of: Elizabeth King born 1795 in Virginia. She may have married twice, first to a Rollins and second to John Randolph Mason in Nicholas County. William Howes King born October 25, 1793 in Giles County, died February 8, 1810 in Clay County, WV. He married Sarah Pierson, born 1803 in Monroe County, VA. William Howes death certificate gives his mother as "Mrs. Charles King". Charles Woodley married second, Nancy Ann Napier February 6, 1798.I have children from both marriages.
