    3. LDS, to my knowledge, will not remove anything sent to them. Because of this some of my ancestors have several versions shown on LDS. I have learned that they add any data sent, but will not correct or change data. One advantage is finding a lead to research. It is up to each of us to research and find what is correct. Also by researching yourself you get to know your ancestors - you don't get to personally know them when you pick up data without working for it. 2. I have the same problem as one put in and made up a family for my William Winchester b. 1777 even using three sons of another William Winchester as my William brothers then gave them all Isaac Winchester to be all their fathers. So what I did was to copy the error genealogy and in my data base I could state disproved by each of the non brothers of my William and give him the proper father. I then submitted this to LDS ancestry file. It should be added to their data when they get 5 CD full to send to their local branch, I was told. We will see. You cannot get them to correct but you can add the correct information so both show. I only did the two generations as my 7000 relatives are not going to be a web pages. Ancestry.com has already stolen some of my work thanks due to sharing with a very distance cousin. 1. Re: KING-D Digest V05 #54 Correcting LDS Data
    2. Hi Folks: I haven't had time to use the LDS data available by Internet of late, but when I was frequently using it a few years ago, they had a correction procedure outlined on their Internet site. As I recall, the correction request had to be in writing (no Internet corrections in those days) and support your correction with copies of applicable correction documentation proof. However, I just made a quick look at the Family History page today and they don't seem to have an obvious topic for corrections; perhaps one of the other topics they list in their page heading will apply. Here is the address where you can find more information on the LDS genealogical databases and free, or near free, genealogical software: www.familysearch.org You can also ask questions on this site or sign up to exchange data or contribute a family GEDCOM file. Best wishes. Tom King, Sr. Sterling, VA

The LDS people will most likely make a database copy on either film or disk and store it in a massive under ground storage area where they maintain copies of their vast collection of genealogical data. Another way of insuring that the genealogical data that you have collected is saved, is to assemble copies in a book or booklet format and donate a copy to the main local libraries where your ancestors have lived. Also pass a copy on to the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City, UT and they will most likely microfilm the information and add it to their vast microfilm collection. A copy of a book that I wrote about 10 years ago, which contained a lot of KING genealogical data, was microfilmed by the LDS Family History Library. Copies of the book on microfilm titled From Wagons To Spaceships, can be ordered for viewing by any interested researcher at their nearest LDS Family History Center. There is a small charge for ordering the film and the film can be viewed free using their projection equipment at your nearby Family History Center. (LDS Family History Centers are located in most major population centers in the USA and overseas; see their Internet listing for more information.) I am not a member of the LDS Church, but I have made extensive use of their genealogical resources. It is no doubt the largest single source of genealogical data in the world. Their genealogical data collection is related to one of their religious beliefs. Most members in good standing have data on the last five generations of their ancestors. I no longer have time for answering research requests. However, if you have very close connection to my KING-CLOUD family lines I will try to find time to answer your email. Happy researching. This is what I would like to know: I am researching King's and Spiers(Spires). In Missouri. Do your 2 families come from Kentucky? Missouri? or other. I would be glad to exchange information with you. Thanks! Theresa Baxter nee King
