Leslie McConachie, who has been noted as an organized and reliable Kincaid researcher, has listed Mathew's father as Francis Kincade b.1770/1779 d.1830, a brother named James b.1799, and a brother named Washington b.1816 d. aft 1880. Mathew does not show up in any census records after 1860. His children for the most part, moved to northwest MO, and do show up in census records in Grundy, Caldwell and Livingston Counties. _________________________________________________________________________ Additional Resources: Book titled: "A.W. Please look over the linkages for #129770 to Mathew Kincade. Anyone with any questions or comments either yea or nay, please post them. You are the vetting committee so we need to hear your voices. This has a potential for being a very important result for the Fayette/Greenbrier/Albemarle/Augusta Co. VA Kincaids so we need to be very sure that the DNA is indeed that of this Mathew. Kelly has not been able to find proof of Mathew's father but names, locations and time frame appear to connect him to Thomas/Hannah Tincher through either son Frances or son Thomas. We have primary and secondary proof that Frances/Nancy Murdock and Thomas/Elizabeth Murdock of Indiana were sons of this couple. I will wait a week and again ask for input. The Mathew Kincaid who married Polly Murdock was grandson of Thomas/Hannah Tincher. >From Chancery Court Case 145 concerning land transfered by Thomas/Hannah Tincher. Report date May 20th 1828. This is part of the "Baldwin heirs vs Thomas Kincaid" case. 421a of said 1334 acres survey was conveyed by Thos. Kincaid Senr to his grandson Mathew Kincaid by deed of bargain & sale bearing date the 26th Jul 1808 & no conveyance found from him to any other person. Fayette Co. WV Deed Bk C p88 4 Sep 1839 Mathew (LM) Kincaid & Polly his wife of Greenbrier Co. to John Gwinn of Fayette Co. $300, 430a, a tract of land in Fayette Co. on Willow Hole Ridge and waters of Lick Creek, part of a tract of 1334a survey dat'd 24 Aug 1799 and patented to Thomas Kincaid on 7 Oct 1800 and by Thomas conveyed to Mathew Kincaid. Sig: Mathew (LM) Kincaid, Mary Kincaid. This Mathew (who on tax records from 1806 on is designated LM or Little Meadow or Lick Creek) appears to be the son of Thomas/Hannah's son John. A Mathew gives testimony in another court case that his father was John of Nicholas Co. Mathew Kincaid and James Kincaid are granted Nicholas Co land next to John Kincaid on the confluence of the Kanawha, New and Gauley Rivers. Mathew & Polly Kincaid and James & Mary Kincaid sell that land. When John Kincaid sells the adjacent land he mentions that part of the land he has contracted to his son James. This Mathew was born at least 21 years prior 1806 tax day to be listed in his own name. Note from the marriage information below that John is the only one whose apparent marriage is early enough to produce this Mathew. A court list found in the Caldwell Papers in the Hoskins Library in Knoxville, TN gives (along with place of residence) the heirs of Thomas Kincaid in "Baldwin heirs vs Thomas Kincaid" as John Kincaid (lives in Nicholas) Samuel Kincaid (lives in Greenbrier) Thos. Kincaid (Indiana/Madison Township) Francis Kincaid (Indiana/Madison Township) George Kincaid (is one of the Plaintiffs) William Kincaid (Greenbrier) Charles Harra & Margaret his wife (Greenbrier) Elizabeth Harra (widow-Greenbrier) Note: Madison Township is probably Madison Co. Indiana. This Co. meets with Hancock, Hamilton and Marion Co.'s near where a Francis and Thomas Kincaid have records. Hancock Co. was taken from Madison in 1828. Madison was created from unorganized territory and Marion Co. in 1823. The sons seem to be listed in order of birth as they are in the same order that persons of the same names appear on tax lists in the Muddy Creek area of Greenbrier Co. John and Samuel appear in 1786 with Thomas. Thomas Jr appears with them in 1792, Francis joins them in 1793, George shows up in 1795, and Wm appears in 1802. Greenbrier marriage records indicate the probable wives for the above. John m Elizabeth Gillaspy. Bond dated 1 Feb, 1782 and given by John Kincaid and Charles Harrah. (John & Elizabeth Kincaid sell Muddy Creek land in 1800 and on Lick Creek 1814. A John Kincaid shows up with designation "Gauley" in 1815). The Gillespie family Bible lists "William Kincaid was Born the 16 day on Munday July 1823 the son of William Kincaid and his wife" "Gillespie Kincaid son of William and Jane born 1816 died 1866". A William Kincaid testifies in court that he is son-in-law of John Kincaid of Nicholas Co. (see Samuel below for more on William and the tie between this John and Samuel) Samuel m Mary Tincher. Bond dated 17th of June 1785 given by Samuel Kincaid and Danial Harrah (Elizabeth above is widow of Danial). Samuel m Huldah Osborne. Bond dated 13th March 1802. Samuel m Diana Ewing 23 Jul.,1828 in Monroe Co. (Samuel and Huldah sell Muddy Creek land in 1816, Lick Creek land in 1827. Samuel and Diane convey the same Lick Creek land in 1842 as it seems the 1827 deed could not be found. It is determined from a deed of heirs for Samuel that he had a least one son whose birth predated the marriage to Huldah. William m Jennet Kincaid. Bond dated 17 Nov. 1810 given by William and Tho's Kincaid. Permission slip from John Kincaid for Jennet to marry with test by Thomas and Francis Kincaid. William and Jane are on the deed of heirs. In 1850 William appears in Fayette Co. Dist 14 age 63 (b c1787), Jane 55, Wm B.28 (b c1822), Elizabeth 21, James A. 18, George C 16, George V 12. Thomas m Elizabeth Mordah. Bond dated 1798 (no day and month) given by Tho's Kincaid and Samuel Tincher. Permission by James and Elizabeth Morduck. Thomas Jr and Elizabeth sell Muddy Creek land part in 1801 and part in 1817 conveyed to him by Thomas/Hannah. Court Case 145 states that Thomas Sr conveyed to son Thomas Jr this land. In 1819 Thomas and Elizabeth Kincaid of Hamilton Co. OH convey land in Greenbrier Co. VA. Thomas of Ohio was granted land in Indiana (Barb what was the date on this) Francis m Nancy Mordock. Bond dated 24 Feb 1798 given by Francis and Thomas Kincaid. Permission by James Morduck. In 1803 Francis and Nancy sold Muddy Creek land that Thomas & Hannah sold to son Francis. Designation on deed and in Court Case 145 says Francis is son. An article written with information provided by son of a Thomas Kincaid who moved to Oregon recounts the trip in 1819 from Greenbrier Co. to Handcock Co. Indiana. Thomas of Oregon told his son that his father was Francis Kincaid and mother Nancy Mordock. John of Gauley recounts the night Francis left the Muddy Creek area in a court case. George Kincaid m Johanna Baldwin (we do not have bond). George Campbell and Johanna Kincaid in 1809 sold land on Muddy Creek purchased from Thomas/Hannah. Court Case 145 identifies George Campbell Kincaid as son of Thomas Sr. Court Case "Baldwin vs Thomas Kincaid" says George is both son of Thomas and one of the Plaintiffs. William Kincaid m Mary Ann Tincher May 18, 1802. Mary Ann is daughter of Hannah Tincher Kincaid's brother Francis Tincher. William and Mary Ann Kincaid sold in 1811 land on Muddy Creek acquired from George Campbell and Johannah Kincaid. In 1850 William Kincaid is a 73 year old pauper living in the household of Mathew Harra age 63. Mathew Harrah is son of Elizabeth/Danial Harrah and named as grandson of Thomas/Hannah in deeds and court cases. It would be very interesting to know where the date and place of death for Elizabeth Murdock came from.
