    3. This is what you wrote quite a while back about Alexander Kincaid, printer & provost of Edinburgh and his son Alexander: "Referring to my last post I want to make a correction in that on further examination it was not the Alexander Kincaid, printer and Lord Provost of Edinburgh who left money to the Chief's son but his son. It can be confusing looking at the records as both were H.M. Printer and both died in 1777. He gave legacies of L500 to John Kincaid of Kincaid, L500 to John Kincaid son of John Kincaid of Kincaid, L500 to Alexander Kincaid, son of John Kincaid of Kincaid, and L500 to Caroline Kincaid, daughter of John Kincaid of Kincaid. The date of the disposition is 24 March 1777 (Register of Deeds, vol. 237, pt. 1, p. 60). This suggests that the bequests relate to John Kincaid of that Ilk who Elizabeth Dainzell. They had ten children which included John (b. 1759), Alexander (b. 1773) and Carolina (b. 1762). Thus, it may be that the younger Alexander knowing his line was coming to an end settled large sums to the Chief and three of his children (ie. the Chief's heir and the children named after Alexander's parent - Alexander Kincaid and Caroline Kerr)." I found quite a bit on the internet by googling "Alexander Kincaid" and "William Creech". William Creech took over the business from the Kincaids, and he knew Sir Walter Scott and the poet Robert Burns. Possibly their books were printed by William Creech. Also Alexander Kincaid, Sr. gave books to Princeton ?University at the request of a Dr. Witherspoon. Barbara ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter A.
