    1. [KINCAID] Lancaster County warrants mentioned in a survey
    2. Norman Kincaide
    3. I found this survey while investigating the Jack family, most notably Patrick Jack.  The Jack family appears here and there with the Kincaids:  The following is extracted from the Daily News Huntingdon Co Pa pg 6 dated 9-4-1948 Patrick Jack is buried in Falling Springs Presbyterian Church yard in Chambersburg, Franklin County, PA, his stone stated that Patrick Jack died in 1821, age 91. 1773 Andrew Kinkead [93625] granted mortgagors Samuel Jack & Robert Boyd a tract of 50 acres in Hamilton Township, Cumberland County,  PA June 14, 1773. Cumberland County Historical Society, Carlisle, PA, Mortgages v. 1, p. 164. 1775 James Kinkaid, [000013] witness along with Thomas Guy, to deed of William Mason of Hempfield Township, Westmoreland  County, PA to William Lindsay 300 acres of land situate on the waters of Beaver Run in Twp, adjoining lands of William and Mathew Jack, John Christie, Alexander Thompson, and others on June 24, 1775 for 30 pounds currency.  Need reference. 1776 James Kinkead, [000013] witness to deed, William Lindsay to Samuel Whitsett, both of Hempfield Township, for 50 pounds, 300 acres on the waters of Beaver Run, being the same land conveyed by Mr. Mason to John Mason, unto William Lindsay. Bounded by lands of: John Christy, William Jack, William Graham, and others. Signed William Lindsay, March 26, 1776.  Westmoreland Co. Deed Book Vol. A, p. 432. 1787 Mary Jane Kincaid married Thomas Jack in Westmoreland County, PA on June 7, 1787.  Alice Gedge 1793 James Kinkeade [000013] had a survey of 440 acres with the allowance of six per cent on November 21, 1793 by virtue of his improvement began on Nov. 14, 1793, situate in District No. 8 N.W. of the Allegheny River on the east side of Buffaloe Creek on the waters of the Allegheny River. Stephen Gapen D.S.  To Daniel Brodhead, Esqu.  S.G.  I do hereby certify that there is no warrant entered in my office for the above described tract of land.  Stephen Gapen.  D.S.  Adjacent landowners: Benjamin Jack, John Craig, and sold land. Patented by Hugh Y. Brady, March 9, 1831, Armstrong County, PA.  Pennsylvania Archives, RG-17, Records of the Land Office COPIED SURVEYS, 1681-1912, Vol. C-108, p. 14. The two warrants referenced below were in Lancaster County in the 1730s.  The surveyor didn't know if these warrants were one whole parcel.  But they are two separate parcels.  The adjacent land owners on the "West Sadsbury Township" (really the west part of Sadsbury Township, Lancaster County, PA) warrant were on Octararo Creek in Sadsbury Township, Lancaster County, which is sandwiched between Bart Township, Lancaster County, PA and Sadsbury Township, Chester County, PA. The actual survey is of a parcel in Green Township, Franklin County, which borders Hamilton Township and Guilford Township in Franklin County, which had been Cumberland County prior to 1783.  This places Patrick Jack in proximity to the Kincaids in Bart Township, Lancaster County, PA and Sadsbury Township, Chester County, PA and adjacent to John Fleming, also referenced with the Kincaids of Chester County, PA. I had previously been unable to make any connection between the Group C Kincaids in Hamilton Township, Cumberland/Franklin County to the Chester County Kincaids.  But these Patrick Jack warrants, one in what was to become Franklin County and the other in Sadsbury Township, Lancaster County, PA indicate the possibility of Group C Kincaids residing in Chester County, PA if a similar migration pattern took place.  I always thought it strange that these Kincaids just appeared in Hamilton Township, they had to come from somewhere.  The earliest Group C Kincaids are in Virginia (George Kinkead killed by Indians in 1756).  There have also been hints of connections between the Carlisle, Middleton, Tyrone & Toboyne Township Kincaids with the Chester County Kincaids, but no real solid connections.  I connect them with York and Lancaster County, but not Chester County, except for the later Bart Township, Lancaster County, Kincaids, but then Bart Township was part of Sadsbury Township, Chester County before the formation of Lancaster in 1729. Sincerely Norman Kincaide A draft of a track or parcel of land situate in Green Township, formerly in Lancaster County, afterwards in Cumberland, and now in Franklin County containing four hundred and seventy acres and 138 perches and the allowance of six per cent for roads and surveyed April 23, 1793. Two warrants (now in the possession of Paul Immel and the heirs of John Immel, deceased) have been granted by the late Proprietaries to Patrick Jack, one for two hundred acres of land situate in West Sadsbury Township and adjoining to John Fleming and James McClaghnahan in the County of Lancaster dated 28th February 1734, and the other for three hundred acres of land situate on Conedojig Creek in the said County of Lancaster dated the 7th day of December 1737.  Under which warrants the said Immels claim the whole of the land above described. The location of the warrant last mentioned will agree to the south end of the present survey.  If not to the whole but whether it was intended to Locate the whole, or only a part or whether the whole was originally surveyed therein is to me uncertain.  As to the other warrant located in Sadsbury Township and adjoining John Fleming and James McClaghnahan I cannot yet find on enquiry a Township formerly called by that Name within the bounds of the (now) County of Franklin and therefore am doubtful respecting it and shall await the order of the surveyor General or Board of Property respecting it the returns to be made in order of confirmation by patent. N.B. Samuel Nicholson disputes part of the above survey adjoining William Crawford’s heirs under a warrant granted to William Nicholson Dated 13th May 1763.  Pennsylvania State Archives, RG-17, Records of the Land Office, COPIED SURVEYS, 1681-1912. B-6, p. 226. James McClanaghan warranted 200 acres in Lancaster County, PA on May 17, 1734 on Octorara Creek, vacated no patent issued.. James McClanachon, 200 acres scratched out, 234 acres & allowance situate on a branch of Octararoe Creek in the County of Lancaster Surveyed the 12th of October 1734 by warrant of the 17th of May in the same year.  By John Taylor.  Adjacent land owners: John Fleming, Jonas Chamberlain, vacant land. Pennsylvania State Archives, RG-17, Records of the Land Office, COPIED SURVEYS, 1681-1912. C-224, p. 171.
