    3. 1779 Samuel Kinkcaid, [000004] Fawn Township, York County, PA, will written March 26, 1776, proved April 30, 1779.  Last Will & Testament of Samuel Kinkead, proved April 3, 1779, Inventory filed, May 12, 1779              In the name of God, Amen, I Samuel Kinkaid [000004] being in perfect health of body and of sound   memory, blessed be God this twenty sixth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven   hundred and seventy six, make and publish this my last will and testament.  In manner following that is   to say first, I give to my brother John, [000004] fifty acres of any land where it may not hurt the place    but most convenient for both places.  Next, I give to my sister Mary [000004] one hundred acres of   any place.  Next I give to my cousin Samuel Kinkaid, [000004] son to Michael Kinkaid, [000004]   one hundred acres of my land near Pitchburgh  (This was difficult to read and could have been Pittsburgh)   on Petters Creek.  Next I give to my cousin Michael Kinkaid [000004] all my chattels and goods he     has now in his possesion.  And I do make and ordain my cousin Michael Kinkaid [000004] to be my   whole executor of this my last will and testament in trust for the intention and purpose in this my will   contained and in witness where of I the  said Samuel Kinkaid [000004] have to this my last will and   testament set my hand and seal the day and year above mentioned.    Signed, sealed and delivered in the presence of us. Samuel Kinkaid [000004] Hugh Artens John Shultz York County               Before me Archibald McClean, Register for the Probate of Will and granting letters of administration in   and for the County of York in the Commonwealth of  Pennsylvania personally came Hugh Artens and John   Shultz the two subscribing witnesses to the foregoing instrument of writing and on their solemn oaths in the   common form of law do severally and respectively testify that they were personally present at the time when   the before named Samuel Kinkead [000004]executed the before written instrument of writing, but do not   particularly recollect his signing or sealing or publishing the same.  But he, the said Samuel Kinkead being   then engaged as a soldier in the Continental Service, they effectively understood it to be his last will and   testament, which he then made  before he would march.  That the names Hugh Artens and John Shultz are    respectively of the said deponents own hand writing and that they respectively are fully assured that they   would not have signed their names there to as witnesses unless they had seen the same signed, sealed and   published, the further that the said Samuel Kinkead [000004] was at that time of sound and disposing mind    memory and understanding to the best of their knowledge and belief, and farther that they did sign their names   there to in his presence and also in the presence of each other. Sworn and Subscribed before me at York the 30th day of April 1779 Hugh Artens John Shultz Arch McClean Reg. Copy of original from the York County, PA Archives In reading Samuel Kinkead's will I do not see a Michael Kincaid Jr.  Only cousin Michael who is the father of Samuel.  I do not know who John Kinkead the brother is.  I believe that the Mary Kinkead in the will is the Mary Kinkead of Bedford County.  I have thought that the John the brother and Samuel Kinkead who wrote the will could be the John and Samuel baptized below.  But I do not have enough evidence to know for sure. I have not been able to account for all of the John Kincaids in Pennsylvania, although I continue to uncover evidence, particularly during my unemployment I have had considerable time to devote to this endeavor.  But a trip to Pennsylvania is not financially possible this year or the forseeable future.  But I make the best assumptions I can based upon my historical training. 1751 John Kincaid, [000004] son of John Kincaid, [000004] baptized by Rev. John Culbertson, Middle Octoraro Society,  Bart Township, Lancaster County, PA, Sept. 8, 1751. Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society, Lancaster, PA. 1753 Samuel Kinkead, [000004] son of John Kinkead, baptized by Rev. John Culbertson, Middle Octoraro Society, Bart Township, Lancaster County, PA, on August 12, 1753. Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society, Lancaster, PA I have made assumptions based upon the scant evidence available for Michael Kincaid's line.  It is not a common name among the Kincaids and highly unlikely that there would be several Michael Kincaids running around Pennsylvania or the border with Maryland.   John Kinkead of Sadsbury didn't have a son Robert as far as I know.  No Robert Kinkead was named in his will. I believe that either Robert the Weaver or Robert the Carpenter (Robert Kincaid who married Susannah Powell is the Robert Kincaid in Hamilton's Ban Township but I don't know if he is the Weaver or the Carpenter) followed Michael Kincaid to Hamilton's Bann Township and that they could be brothers. As for the sons of Michael Kincaid, I believe he had at least three: Michael Kinkead later of Venango County, Samuel Kinkead who died in Crawford County, PA and Robert Kinkead who married Mary Kinkead, daughter of John Kinkead and Margaret Miles and lived in Erie Borough, Erie, PA and died there in 1842 age 60.  The only evidence is this deed in the Crawford County, PA Court House. 1801 Samuel Kincaid [000004] of Mercer County, PA purchased 250 acres from Abraham Steers on April 11, 1801; witnesses:  William Byers & Robert Kincaid [000004].  Crawford County, PA Court House, Deed Book A, p. 255. I believe Michael Kincaid died sometime between 1801 because Elizabeth Kincaid is taxed in 1806 1806 Elizabeth Kincaid [000004] taxed in Shenango Township, Crawford County, PA for 400 acres at 150, 1 cow at 8.  Crawford County,  PA Historical Society, Tax Record 1800-1817. Michael Kincaid appeared again in 1809, I believe him to be Michael Kincaid Jr. 1809 Michael Kincaid [000004] taxed in Shenango Township, Crawford County, PA for 400 acres at 250.  Crawford County, PA Historical Society,  Tax Record 1800-1817. 1820 Michal Kincade, [000004] Shenango Township, Crawford County, PA, 1 male 26-44,1 male under 10, 2 females under 10, 1 female  16-25. USFC, p. 54A. 1820 Samuel Kincade, [000004] Meadville, Crawford County, PA 1 male over 44, 3 females under 10, 3 females 10-15, 1 female 26-44.  USFC, p. 48. 1820 Robert Kinkead, [000004] Erie Township, Erie County, PA, 1 male 26-44, 1 male 10-15, 1 male under 10, 1 female over 45, 3 females 10-15. USFC 1830 Robert Kincaid, [000004] Erie Borough, Erie County, PA, 1 male 40-50, 2 male 5-10, 1 female 40-50, 1 female 30-40, 2 females 20-30, 2 females 5-10, 1 female under 5. USFC, p. 247. 1840 Michael Kincade, [000004] Canal Township, Venango County, PA 1 male 60-70. USFC, 102. In the end I believe that the Michael Kincaid line intermarried with my line in Erie County, PA. Sincerely Norman Kincaide
