The 13-25 marker panel for 130404 has been received from the lab. On these markers he matches the Group A Apparent Ancestral Values at all markers except 15 (DYS459b) where he has the set 2 nine instead of the AAV ten. This was expected as he claims descent from James Woodburn as does 15550 but it is nice to have confirmation. He has been placed in Group A Set 2a. The only difference in results for 130404 and 15550 occurs at marker 4 (DYS391) where 130404 has the pesky 11 instead of the AVV 12. If both lines can be vetted to James Woodburn, we will have an additional occurance of this mutation being from a parallel (unrelated) incidence. Both 130404 and 15550 share a mutation to 38 at marker 35 (CDYb). Again if both can be vetted to James Woodburn, we will know that he also had this mutation as the lines are from different sons. It will be awhile before the results for markers 36-67 are reported. Along with tests for 124250, 130629 and 31493, the first run failed to yield reliable results so the tests are being run again. This is part of FTDNA's quality control. If they are not absolutely sure of the results they will not post them but will run a second test using the A swab. If results are still not clear, they will then test the B swab. It is frustrating to have to wait longer but it is better the results be accurate when they are returned. Sue Liedtke
The first (1-12) and third (26-37) panels for 130207 have been returned. He matches the Group A Apparent Ancestral Values at all but 2 markers. At marker 34 (CDYa) he has a 36 instead of the AAV 37. At marker 35 (CDYb) he has a 40 instead of the AAV 39. The 40 at marker 35 appears 6 times within the project. Those having it are scattered throughout the sets so its appearance may or may not have any usable significance in suggesting relationship. The 36 at marker 34 appears in all of set 4 results, once in set 1b (the lack of a 12 at marker 26 precludes him from this set), and once in set 1a (102911 vetted to David/Bathsheba also has this mutatation). Again its appearance may or may not hold any relationship significance. Until the second panel (13-25) is returned he cannot be placed in a Group A set though sets 1b, 1c and 2b are now eliminated as possibilities. I do not have lineage information for this participant. He has ordered a 37 marker test. Sue Liedtke
How would I send my DNA in for the project? How much money does it cost?
To be able to send in your DNA sample you will need to join the Kincaid DNA Project and you can do this by going to http://www.familytreedna.com/public/kincaid/ and filling out the "request to join" form and Family Tree DNA will then send you a kit. The kit will have 2 swabs to use on the inside of your facial cheeks which you will put into the containers and return to Family Tree DNA. You can pay when you fill out the form via a credit card or by check when you mail in the kit. The cost for the Kincaid Y DNA test varies by the amount of markers you want tested. The 12 marker test is a basic test, the 25 marker test provides additional info, the 37 marker test results will be sufficient for you to know which Kincaid Group and set you belong in and is the one we recommend. By joining the Kincaid DNA Project you will automatically get the group discount on pricing which will be on the form you fill out which will ask you to select which test you want and give you the price for it. There are other dna tests available besides the Y dna but it is the most useful. Please take a look at the Kincaid DNA Results chart if you haven't by clicking on the link at the bottom of this email and you will see that most Kincaid DNA participants have chosen the 37 marker test. Also you might find someone on the chart you share a common ancestor with or see where you think you will fit. Don W.
