    3. K-listers, Yet another facet to the story of the origin of the Kincaid name, from an Irish Kinkead! I'll be anxious to find out how far back Philip can trace his -kead line. Rev. Joe, perhaps? I have one of Roger Kinkead's photos and am bidding on one of his works on Ebay right now. Dick Kinkead 2562 Lantana, FL ----- Original Message ----- From: Philip and Kathryn Kinkead To: 'Richard Kinkead' Sent: Monday, October 06, 2008 8:23 AM Subject: Long Line of Kinkead's Hi Richard, It was very nice to hear from you and read your informative email. I will investigate with my father deeper into our personal family line, but for now I will share with you the information that I know off my head. Dating back as far as we can trace our name back to our family has always resided in the middle of the orchard county of Co.Armagh 'Ard Macha' which is located just south of Lough Neagh. Family names are kept though the generations in our line. My father is named William James Roger Kinkead, his father was William Bradley Kinkead. My Grandfather William Bradley worked all his life in the Linen Mills of Co.Armagh and my father is an Irish Scenic photographer. All of the Kinkead's have been very proud of their Irish culture and this extends today. My grandfather always maintained that our heritage was Irish and not Scotch Irish. The Gaelic Irish for our name is Cinniceid which is very significant. Cinni translates into 'the family name'. Ceid can be translated into 'special field'. You may be aware of the ceide fields of Ireland. There is also a town in Co.Armagh called Keady, translated to 'Ceide'. Therefore my Grandfather said that the story that was passed down to him through history was that the Kinkead's were 'the family who worked the special fields' in ancient times. Today this would just means that they were farmers who had been blest with rich farm lands. This would make sense as Co.Armagh has the most luscious fields in all Ireland. Our family has also been recorded in the earliest recordings of Co.Armagh towns mainly Portadown 'Port na Dun' where I still live. I hope this gives you a brief insight, Kinds Regards, Philip Kinkead 'Pilab Cinniceid'

    3. Dick, Great info on Irish Keads! We look forward to Phillip's additional family lineage information. His email certainly increases the possibility that there was indeed a family of Kinkeads that originated in Ireland or N. Ireland. We sure hope he will decide to join the Kincaid DNA project as it might prove to be quite valuable. When I did research in Scotland in 1985 I saw of several instances of Kincaid's going to Co. Armagh but they could be different from Phillip's line. 3. I think the chances of there being a family of Kinkeads that originated in Ireland (paternity issues aside) is on the low side of 0 to 1%. There is a clear paper trail of Kincaids/Kinkeads/etc. in that part of Armagh and they originate on the County Down side. Peter ----- Original Message ----- From: Don W.
